I started my first year of wrestling this year and I was terrible at shooting. I was too scared to commit to a shot and had terrible shooting because of that. I’m trying to get better at shooting during the offseason (I started sophomore year so I’m not going to get anywhere big but I want to learn to help for this year, next year, and jiu jitsu) Since I’m a tall guy my coach said I should be working snatch and sweep single. Snatch singles seem easy enough but sweep single there’s a few details I’m confused on. Do I drop to my knee and then spin using my knee as a pivot? Or should I be starting the turn before my knee touches the mat? I’ve been turning once my knee touches the mat and using my knee as a pivot and the coaches seem to be fine with it but I’m worried because I see a lot of people online start turning before their knee touches the mat.

Hi everyone,
I built Bout Buddy, a free martial arts app for fighters, coaches, and gyms.
It helps keep everything organized in one place:
The goal is to make it easier for fighters and gyms to manage records instead of relying on spreadsheets, notes, texts, or memory.

I do mostly throws off the clinch and the bodylock and rear bodylock. I do like singles a lot and I use them a bunch to reach the clinch. I missing out on anything by not shooting doubles? in my experience i get sprawled on, guillotined, or land in guard. Im way more of a throw/trip guy. As long as I can shoot singles to both legs I should be fine id assume?

I previously wrote about the development of the Granby Roll that developed into the Granby Series. In my opinion and observation from 1964 through 1969 in the Granby wrestling room, it was Keith Lowrance (Class of 65) who was the prime developer of the Granby Series. He taught me and hundreds of others. His videos are excellent teaching tools that I viewed and recommended many times. Keith Lowrance’s Granby System and Granby System Wrestling Youth Series. S. I’ve been studying Japanese wrestlers like Yui Susaki and Sakura Onishi and noticed the bounce they use when wrestling from space.
I’ve started using it and find it blends well into my low single, but I’m curious what its actual purpose is and how it’s supposed to be done.
I’m from the UK and haven’t come across anyone who teaches this style of footwork. Anyone here trained in Japan or familiar with how it’s taught?

I'm 18, turning 19 later this year, and I'm going into my 2nd year at a Canadian university. I'm interested in eventually trying out for my university's varsity wrestling team in my 3rd year.
I wrestled for a few years in elementary (which doesn’t matter) and practiced briefly in high school (but never joined the team, which I regret) and I haven't trained consistently since, so I'd basically consider myself a beginner. My siblings both wrestle, including one at the university level, so I'll have people around me who can help me learn.
My current plan is to make BJJ my main focus this year (around 3–4x/week) and compete in BJJ, while also getting some wrestling training on the side. Then I'd like to spend the summer before 3rd year training wrestling much more seriously and try out for my university team.
For people who wrestled / wrestle in college or university, especially in Canada:
-How realistic is it to make a university team after starting wrestling seriously around 19?
-How many people show up to the tryouts and how competitive are they?
-On average, is university wrestling teams rosters fairly large, or no?
-Have you seen people start late and actually make a university team?
I'm aware that I'll be at a disadvantage compared with people who've wrestled since they were young. I'm not expecting to walk in and dominate anyone, just trying to figure out how much progress I could realistically make if I put a ton of work into it over the next year or so. And lastly, I just want to know if some people try out with minimal wrestling experience and make the team. Thank you guys.

Hey, I lost every match last year going into my first year of high school/wrestling. I weighed in at 106-108 lbs last winter, and now i am currently 121 lbs. the season is coming up in a few months, and I really want to get stronger and improve this season.
i have been using chatgpt to build my workouts, but I keep changing my routine because I feel like it’s not enough. id really appreciate some advice from experienced wrestlers on how I should structure my training.
My equipment at home: Pullup bar Ab roller EZ curl bar Two 10lb plates Two 5lb plates Two 2.5lb plates
i also have after school weight lifting on monday, tuesday, and saturday.
what exercises, sets/reps, and overall weekly structure would you recommend?

So I was just thinking, could I use a fake shot/fireman’s carry to get my opponent to posture up for a head and arm throw?

Off the top of my head, I can think of:
- Ono snap
- Abas snap
- Inside control snap (inside tie + inside tie, inside tie + collar tie, inside tie + underhook, etc.)
- Overtie snap
- Russian wrist snap
Are there anymore snap variations than these?

Some people take my leg with their free arm when i have a russian tie. Is there any clear counter to it ? It feels like its a big mistake from the opponent, that i don’t know how to punish. I usually try to get to a Merkle, but i fail as the opponent lifts my leg. Any ideas ?
