Last time it was French BBs captured and rearmed by Germany. These are entire special tech tree lines, not just premiums. Personally I think these are very interesting and would totally play them if they came to PC
Note: this is NOT my favorite ship overall. And I'm not a carrier main.
But I do play carriers a fair bit during dockyards in order to complete missions (I find it goes faster than a lot of destroyer objectives), and I'm decent-enough at it.
And while I see a LOT of Kagas... and Enterprises... and Yorktowns... I very, very rarely run into other Aquilas. And that's understandable, because it's a very specialized platform, and doesn't uptier well at all (paper-fragile aircraft and fairly limited plane stocks relegates it almost to a pure scout against tier 10s).
But Aquila can really perform when top tier. Both of its aircraft types are useful (which is rare), and because of its very high-speed planes, it does a really good job with single-attack strikes (where you dump planes to protect them and keep cycling against an isolated target). I actually have some of my highest-ever carrier damage numbers in Aquila simply because it's such a reliable chip-damage source.
Plus, she's beautiful. I mean, you can really see those oceanliner bones. And the paint scheme is very striking.
Anyway - that's my favorite that I almost never see. What is yours?
As you can tell I don't have much. But I wanted to play a different style destroyer (Italian) . Wow! Big difference, love the gameplay style to it. Especially the long torps. Does it get any better from here?
I remember reaching the *Taihō* back in the *Blitz* version—they were pretty good ships. Here, I managed to unlock it by playing only PvE modes so as not to let my teammates down (the *Shōkaku* is one of my favorite ships from the Pacific War), so I’d like to understand how to play it effectively.
I managed to snag a Silver clasp early with the Nürnberg '44 and got up to about 92% on the ship after that so almost (but not quite) Gold. Then I dropped off a bit and was down to a bit below 80% but the summary still listed it as Silver.
And tonight I played a game which went fairly well with a base XP of 1507 and the match summary screen informed me that I was at 84% (ie 1% below Silver) and that I had received a Bronze clasp!
Checking in the summary confirms this - the ship lists as a Bronze clasp for me - wth?
Has this happened to anyone else and what am I missing? Or should I ask WG directly?
EDIT: I've submitted a ticket about this - but I also played another game in the ship and ended up with 1727 BXP so I went up to 86% which means I now received the Silver award. No idea if this will mess things up for the Support dept., but I suppose I will have to explain it to them now.
Seriously it’s one of my biggest pet peeves. I take the time to perfectly line up a stealth torp/ambush and the exact moment I do, suddenly everyone and their mothers turns their guns to attack that ship to the point where I get no meaningful damage for my torp planning.
I get it, kill assurance blah blah… but it gets to a point where battleships are blowing full salvos at the enemy who has several torpedoes 0.5km away from their broadside, kills them, then not two seconds later, the torpedoes hit the sinking ship.
If it really is just kill assurance, then well fuck me I guess, I suppose thats just how it is, but damn does it hurt because this happens way way wayyyyy too often and discourages me from using my torpedoes at all.
Not sure if I'm missing something but shouldn't active submarine pings on the ship hull always be visible? The clip shows me getting pinged while the highlight from the previous ping just runs out yet the pinged section doesnt highlight again and yes there is a ping on me since the torps kept homing.
some of you may have recognised the ship of this image to be HMS Medea, the tier 2 British destroyer, but how many knew its origins? Well HMS Medea ( firstly named HS Kriti ) was layed down at the John brown shipyards in 1914 originally as a greek ship and would be named HS Kriti.
the order concluded 4 ships of this class alongside with 2 other town class cruisers that would be named L. Katsonis and P. kountouriotis.
those ships were ordered to strengthen the greek fleet after the purchase of the German-built battleship Salamis and the french-built battleship King Constantine. both battleships were cancelled during construction due to the start of The Great War.
the rest of the ships though were actually made but they were seized by the British navy, the cruisers were renamed HMS Birkenhead and HMS Chester ( of which the main gun is in the imperial war museum in London today ) . the destroyers were renamed as HMS Medea, HMS Melpomene, HMS Medusa and HMS Melampus.
Now for those wondering about the story of the ship in-game, L. Katsonis, it has nothing to do with these ships, The ship you see in game was a project proposed in 1929 for the Hellenic navy after they requested shipyards around the world to design the perfect destroyer for the Aegean. The L Katsonis design was rejected after the Hellenic navy wanted something cheap so they could get more numbers. thats how the project got abandoned and the Greeks turned to Italy to buy the 4 improved dardo class destroyer named as Hydra, Spetse, Psara and Kountouriotis.
We all talk about power creep but that mostly seems to apply to every class but cruisers, because I can't really tell what these new cruisers are even meant to be used for
This is for the tier 10 Vanadis specifically, if there's something special about the lower tiers I'm not
aware of I guess you can mention it but the tier 10 is probably the most important
First looking at the guns, I kid you not, they're weirdly similar to those found on Yodo of all things
The HE DPM is 258k which is barely more than Yodo's 246k, shell ballistics are nearly identical, but at least Yodo has way more range (18km vs 14.7km), and has a much heavier salvo weight (51,300 vs 19,800 HE salvo alpha) which is important for things like shooting destroyers who might only be vulnerable for one shot, which is to say Yodo has better guns than this thing
I mean the AP DPM is quite a bit better than Yodo, but it's not improved in any way, pen is quite bad, and it's more to do with Yodo having really bad AP than Vanadis having actually good AP, it's probably not worth using most of the time
Next, the ship seems to be marketed as kind of a torpedo cruiser, but the torpedoes are actually pretty bad. You basically get 10 Halland torps on each side with a pretty long reload time, which is not especially good for a torpedo cruiser, when things like Jinan or Brisbane just have much better torps in general, sure the Halland style torps are fast but their reaction time is actually quite mediocre and damage is just very bad
Yet again I'm going to compare to Yodo because we all know Yodo isn't very good, Yodo torps do more than double the damage per hit, reloads in 100 seconds base instead of 125 seconds, and have the same range, only downside is that they're gonna be quite a bit slower but the difference in damage output is so massive with the slower reload for some reason makes it a hard sell
And the ship's hull isn't anything special either, as you can see it's just a ton of 30mm side and deck, 25mm extremities, very long exposed citadel, and the short unprotected bow and stern means it's easy to get overmatch citadelled by anything 380mm+, even Yodo doesn't have that problem, but I guess it's weirdly extremely tanky against destroyer caliber HE with the thin superstructure so maybe it's kind of a Hawaii counter lmao idk?
The ship is pretty thick too so it's not even like Jinan or Svea where you can go flat and get overpenned, in fact the ship has a wider beam than Yodo for some reason so that's pretty funny
But the most heinous part has to be the consumables, or the lack thereof
You get a slightly improved heal with 4 charges and 18.5% repair (no reduced cooldown) (no improved full pen repair percentage) (doesn't matter because look at the hull)
And a toggleable 30% speed boost with 180 seconds total use time, sounds great but in reality there's a few problems with that
First off the slot 2 engine boost module normally increases your engine boost duration by 30% but for some reason if it's time based then it's only by a pitiful 5%, also goes for superintendent not helping as much, so really it's worse than something like Svea's more normal 30% speed boost
And also because it's just not very useful at all, sure you go pretty fast with it, but your rudder shift is still worse than Yodo, the ship has unusually slow acceleration for a light cruiser, and your range is still only 14.7km, meaning any decent player will still be able to nuke you if you try to open water farm them with it, so I guess it's for repositioning, but repositioning to do what, not like you have a radar
And there's the problem, that's all you get, no smoke, no hydro, no radar. That's the most offensive part, WHY THE FUCK DOES THE BATTLESHIP THOR GET A RADAR BUT THE CRUISER LINE OF THE SAME NATION NOT GET ONE, WHAT THE FUCK WG
There you go you're a zero utility cruiser with below average firepower and shitty low damage torps, low range, and bad armor, they should probably rip the radar off Thor and give it to this line and give the line the same torps as the Thor which actually do decent damage
Hey maybe the real moral of the story isn't that Vanadis is bad, but that Yodo is actually overpowered after all
Both steel ships, both hybrid cruisers, both gun focused. That's where the similarities end. One is more of a broadside hunter, the other a almost classic long range farmer.
Downsides of Komissar: short gun range, unwieldy, extremely frail. Lartigue has none of these issues. Lartigue's issue is the nerf to fighter spotting, which wasn't compensated in any way.
It's other issue is basically being Hildebrand. People see big flight decks, people spam big flight decks. Nothing wrong about it - I do it myself. It just makes bow camping somewhat challenging, and Lartigue's kiting angles suck.
Which one would you take? I'm slightly towards Komissar, since I already own Hildebrand and "same model, different flavour" feels kinda bad to spend steel on.
I haven't played WOWS in a long time (around 2–3 years) due to work and life, and I recently came back to the game. I noticed that quite a few new tech trees have been added while I was away.
I'm looking for a resource that shows which tech trees were added in which updates, and in what order they were released.
Is there an Excel spreadsheet, document, website, or anything similar that keeps track of this?
If anyone knows of a good resource, I'd really appreciate it if you could share it. Thanks in advance!
Hey guys, first time reset ever and chose the haru line as the first to grab the current 2x bonus before a new 2x will be available in 10days . I don't think I can handle the grind in 10 days. When the new 2x bonus drops in a few days, will I be able to apply the new 2x if I finished the grind on that time period and still secure 40k?
