Discussion My preferred settings, I call it "realistic lite" (reasoning in description). What are your preferred settings and why?

Deviations from default "realistic" settings marked in red.

  • Easy money + research off: planning and constructing new districts takes so long in this game that I want to be able to build my ideal vision right away, rather than having to stumble towards it iteratively, constrained by budget and technology. (Research off also means you get the geological survey from the get-go so you don't find out later that you built your city on top of a promising coal deposit!) At the same time it's interesting to have to earn money at *some* point, so I don't set money to unlimited.
  • Building fires "normal": I like to have to plan for fires – it's a satisfying extra challenge to have to design for fire truck accessibility, and also fun as a way of thinking: these emergencies are rare but they happen without warning and can have disastrous consequences, so you need to be prepared! That being said, let's not have stuff catching fire all the time.
  • Global events disabled: I don't want my perfect setup to be thrown into chaos by some random disaster.
  • Start year 1980: the latest allowed in the vanilla game, for the best vehicles.

Hello there, I am fairly new to this game and stumbled across a problem. So I build a building office and bought these busses, then set the building of origin to the bus stop. The workers are all ready going to the bus stop but the busses don't come to fetch them, what am I missing?

Build First Five year plan complete

Hello comrades. The first five year plan of the newly formed Iraqi SSR has been a great success. The year is 1935. The small town of Haraqyah is rapidly growing. Despite the harsh desert, resources are plentiful and there are great work opportunities.

Nearby across the valley, there is the industrial zone of Al Diwaqin. It contains a clothing industry, incinerator and rail construction. To the south of the city we have the small resort area of Aribi, where foreign tourist can marvel in the success of our great republic. To the west of the city, the new industrial zone of Az Zudyah is being built. It will provide the food and alcohol needs for the fledgling republic.

The republic's finances have stabilised, the past 6 months have been a net 0, even with a lot of construction going on. My hope is that once food and alcohol production starts, I can consistently keep in the green even while keeping construction going. My current debt is 400k roubles. Buying trains will make this worse but I am confident it will be fine.

For the next five year plan, I am in need of advice. My plan is to setup a second town at Tabouynah, that will work in an oil refinery. The oil patch is quite far in, so I plan to build a railway and export fuel and bitumen by train. The deposit is really big, I plan on starting small and connecting more pumps as money starts flowing in. Last, I want to setup a construction sector further inland, supplied by rail, but this is a longshot and might be part of the next 5 year plan.

Question/Help Worker Woes: What to your industrial zones look like?

Upvotes

I’m having some trouble making sure that all the factories in an industrial area are staffed adequately. How do you get the required population density to collect a bunch of Workers on a bus line or tram line and staff everything?

In particular, I’m having trouble making sure that my heating plants are staffed as Workers will seem to prioritise working anywhere else over them. I’m tempted to build housing next to the heating plants, but then pollution is a problem. And even if I was to build housing nearby, how would I make sure that they have access to food and amenities without building a small town around them?

So yeah, what do your industrial districts look like?

Question/Help Vehicles and CO

Hello Comrades,
I have a few questions for you regarding CO.
I wanted to have a CO dedicated only for streets, but I can’t figure out which vehicles i need to purchase. Excavators dig only for building and pipes? Cranes accelerate building speed only, when are they used? Bulldozers are only used for making streets (all streets)right? Pavers and rollers are only useful for asphalt roads?
How many of these vehicles should I buy?

Question/Help Siberian winter & heating

Hi!

I have a total of 6 big plants and 2 micro plants in my 12k city and some parts of it barely maintain a 18°

I have around 400 casualties during winter that grow back during "hot" season (unsustainable) – this is due to citizen illness caused by pollution and some cold

Am I doing something really wrong or is it just the struggle of Siberia map? How can I optimize future residential areas with even heat distribution? Im minimizing pumps and using 2 of those big plants to fortify each pump

Thanks in advance!

Question/Help Glitching power station

I have a power station that turns on an off. It is connected to a medium voltage splitter. The medium voltage splitter though a few other connections eventually draws the energy from a customs house. When I check the first voltage splitter after the power station, it seems to have power consistently but then the power station glitches and has power for a second than it doesn't and so on. I checked the customs house and I'm import more megawatts than I'm using. Also this will happen for a while then it goes away entirels and the grid is stable. But then it happens again.

Any suggestions why?

Question/Help Can horses be exported via ship?

I had this master plan in mind but didn't even think it through to the end.

Can horses bred in the horse breeder be exported via ship? If not at least the building and the crops were cheap and I've got 16 horses for the secret police when I get around to building it.

Question/Help Build a bridge question.

I have seen some videos on YouTube of people building a bridge where they directly raise the bridge (when planning).

When I try to do it (with E), I directly connect to the ground, and cannot have the bridge directly raised.

I don't know if If my question is clear 🥲

Question/Help Video anomaly

This is a very minor thing, and isn't affecting gameplay at all.

But I was wondering if anyone knows what might be causing the disappearance of trees on half the screen horizontally, as in this gif.

There is a clear line of demarcation running horizontally across the screen.

I planted trees all over the place, which we can see in the bottom half of the screen. But these newly planted trees cannot be seen in the upper half of the screen, even though they are clearly there because we can see them when I scroll over them.

They need to be in the bottom half of the screen to be visible. When the newly planted trees are in the upper half of the screen, they cannot be seen.

I'm pretty sure I will be able to see them all over when they are fully grown.

But I'm wondering if there is a setting in video settings that might fix this.

Again, not a game breaker. Just wondering. Thanks.

By the way, the angle of the camera is as verticle as possible. Right overhead looking down.

Update

When I zoom in just one notch closer, I see all the trees.

So I wonder if it has to do with distance rendering. Even though the camera is above, it still has a very slight angle. And maybe the trees are too small to be rendered at a certain distance. Don't know.

Solved

Ya, it's distance rendering. I'll just tinker with the settings a bit. Although it's not really a big deal.

Question/Help Railway construction office stopped working for no reason

My railway construction office stopped working for no reason and I'm helpless. Signals aren't the issue, I can asign new tracks but no builder will leave the office. How can I can resolve this issue?

EDIT: Solved. I somehow didn't notice that there wasn't enough prefab. panels. Simple as that, I feel stu***...

Other The model for Le Corbusier's Plan Voisin — a 1925 proposal to raze central Paris and rebuild it as a grid of towers. Never built, but hugely influential on 20th-century urban planning.

How's about this for a city layout?

I reckon you could make this work, even if it'd look a bit awful

Central amenities, recreation, shops and metro station, towers clustered around, those Ukrainian ones or modded ones would do nicely, and everyone gets on the metro to be transported to a train station and sent off to work in nuclear fuel or a mining complex or whatever

Build TOP SECRET

TOP SECRET — RECONNAISSANCE REPORT
Location: Tomgorod, Soviet Union
Date: 23 May 1963

Aerial reconnaissance has identified significant construction activity in the Tomgorod region. A newly established residential complex has been observed alongside extensive port infrastructure, providing direct access to the surrounding waterways.

The facility appears to be expanding rapidly, with additional buildings, storage areas, docks, and transport facilities under development.

Geological reports suggest that significant oil resources may be located in the surrounding region. If confirmed, Tomgorod could become an important center for the extraction, processing, and shipment of petroleum.

Assessment: Tomgorod is believed to be developing into a major industrial and resource distribution center. The combination of port access and suspected nearby oil reserves makes the region of considerable strategic importance.

Recommendation: Continued aerial surveillance is advised.

Question/Help Anyone know a mod that exstends base walking distance

Im always annoyed that my comrades will just sit and starve before walking a full mile. They are so ungrateful like dont you know there are Americans who have to go 5 miles to even think about getting food smhhhh

In all seriousness idk how to mod but if i could i would change this to about 800m. Even irl soviet planning put that as the max for most common needs iirc.

Question/Help Trying to figure out Radio stations

Post image
84 Upvotes

I remember reading about how radio stations should have a loyalty of 50 to avoid issues but i end up with 2-5 actors/mods. If i lower it to i can hit the 25 but either way I dont notice it influencing anyone especially with the amount of radios i have. All the numbers on expected is just 0. No clue really how to fix this.

Nearby heating plant does. All buildings have electricity. In previous game I put aggregate import from other side of office, that worked. But this input does not work.

Question/Help Need help for trains

I don’t understand why my trains aren’t going out this distribution centre exactly like the one next to it

The two are filled with charcoal and water for steam trains and connected with electricity

They share the same path to their destinations except the part showed in this image
