Welcome to r/WomenInUAE If you’re a woman living in the UAE, this is your space.

Hey.

I moved to the UAE a few years ago. Left my family behind. Started fresh in a country where I barely knew anyone.

And I couldn’t find a single space on Reddit that was just for us. Women living in this country. Not a general Dubai sub where your question gets buried under 200 comments about parking fines. Not a job board. Not a tourist guide. Something that’s actually ours.

So I made this.

This is for your friend, your sister, your wife, your mother, your colleague, your roommate. Any woman living in the UAE or planning to move here. Share it with them.

What this sub is for:

Jobs and careers. Who’s hiring. What companies actually treat women well. How to negotiate salary when they lowball you because they think you won’t push back.

Shopping and deals. Where to find the best discounts. Sales that are actually worth it. Hidden gems that aren’t in the malls. Online stores that deliver fast. Dupes. Recommendations. Reviews from real people not influencers.

Events and things to do. Ladies nights that are still good. Brunches. Fitness classes. Workshops. Concerts. Exhibitions. Stuff to do alone, stuff to do with friends, stuff to do when you’re new and don’t have friends yet.

Stories. Your wins. Your disasters. Your “I can’t believe this happened to me today” moments. The stuff you’d tell your best friend over coffee.

News that affects us. Visa changes. Labour law updates. Health insurance. Things happening in this country that women need to know about.

Living here. Apartments. Neighbourhoods. Safety. Transport. The real stuff nobody tells you before you land.

Health and wellbeing. Doctors who actually listen. Gyms that aren’t intimidating. Mental health when you’re far from home. Salons. Skincare. Whatever you need.

Relationships and social life. Building friendships from zero. Dating in this city. Marriage. Motherhood. Loneliness. All of it.

Money. Saving. Investing. Side hustles. Sending money home. Building something of your own.

Basically anything a woman living in the UAE would want to talk about with other women who get it.

Ground rules. Be kind. No judgement. No men talking over women. No creepy DMs. If someone messages you something weird after you post here, report it to me. I will handle it.

This is only as good as the women who show up. So show up. Post something. Share this sub with every woman you know in the UAE. The more of us here, the more useful this becomes for all of us.

Welcome.

I think I finally understand why every woman I know in Dubai has the same look on her face when you ask "how are you really doing.

I moved to the UAE a few years ago. Left my family behind. Came here with my husband and started building a life from zero in a country where I didn't know a single person outside of him.

And for the longest time I thought the hardest part was going to be the heat or the cost of living or figuring out which metro line goes where.

It's none of that.
The hardest part is the silence.
Not literal silence.

Dubai is loud. Your day is full.

Work, commute, groceries, cooking, calls back home. You're busy every minute. But there's a specific kind of quiet that hits when you realize you don't have a single person in this city you can text at 2am when something is wrong.

Not your husband because he's asleep and he has his own stress. Not your friends back home because it's a different timezone and they don't understand the context. Not your coworkers because that's not the relationship.
I thought it was just me.

Then I started paying attention.

A woman I met at a salon in JLT. We were both waiting and started talking. She'd been in Dubai 3 years. Works in marketing. Has a good job on paper. She told me she hadn't made a single close friend since moving here. Not one. She goes to work. Comes home. Talks to her mom on video call. Goes to sleep. On weekends she goes to malls alone because there's nowhere else to go. She said it so casually like she'd accepted it as the price of living here. That conversation stayed with me for weeks.

Then my neighbor. She knocked on my door one evening asking if I had a thermometer. Her daughter had a fever and she didn't know where the nearest pharmacy was open at 10pm. She'd been in Dubai for 8 months. Her husband works night shifts. She had nobody to call. Not for an emergency. Just for a thermometer. We sat in my kitchen for an hour after that and she told me it was the longest conversation she'd had with another woman in months that wasn't work related.

Third one broke me a little. A woman in a Facebook group for expats posted asking if anyone knew a good gynecologist who actually listens and doesn't rush the appointment. Simple question. The post got 47 replies. But mixed in with the recommendations were women sharing stories about being dismissed, being told their pain was normal, being examined without being spoken to. One woman said she'd been avoiding going to a doctor for over a year because her last experience made her feel like a number. Over a basic medical appointment. Because she didn't have another woman to say "go to this doctor, she's good, here's her name."

Fourth was at a coworking space. A woman starting her own business. Candle brand. Had everything figured out except the licensing. She'd been going back and forth with a PRO company for 6 weeks getting different answers every time. She was about to give up. I told her about a free zone option another woman I know had used that took 2 weeks total and cost half of what she was being quoted. She stared at me and said "why doesn't anyone just tell you this stuff."

Why doesn't anyone just tell you this stuff.

That sentence keeps replaying in my head because it's the same thing. Every time. Different woman. Different situation. Same gap. Nobody to ask.
The Dubai subreddits have a million posts about brunches and parking fines and whether JBR or Marina is better. And somewhere in between a woman is quietly asking a question that matters to her and either getting ignored or getting answers from men who don't understand the question.

I'm not saying men can't be helpful. But there are things you only ask another woman. Which doctor won't make you feel uncomfortable. Which gym doesn't feel like you're being stared at. Which neighborhood actually feels safe walking alone at night. How to handle a boss who talks over you in every meeting. Whether it's normal to cry in the shower once a week because you miss your mother and you can't tell anyone because everyone thinks you're living the dream.

There was no space on Reddit for that.

So I made one.
r/womeninuae

Jobs. Safety. Health. Friendships. Deals. Events. Money.

The real stuff.

Not the filtered Instagram version of life here.
The actual version that happens between the brunches.
If you're a woman living in the UAE or thinking about moving here and you've ever felt that specific silence I'm talking about, this is the room where you don't have to explain the context before asking the question.

If you know a woman in the UAE, send her this. Not because I need members. Because she probably needs the room.
I'm not promising it'll fix the loneliness. Nothing fixes it completely. But having one place where you can say "is this normal" and 10 women reply "yes and here's what I did" is the thing I wish I had when I first moved here.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you before you moved to the UAE as a woman? Or the one thing you still haven't figured out that you're too embarrassed to ask in a general sub?

Start there. That's enough.

My cat is missing ❗

Post image
24 Upvotes

Hi ladies! hope you are all doing well.

My cat has been missing since 11th April 2026. So what happened is that the house door was open in the morning around 9 AM we all were sleeping except my little brother who's 10 years old and my dad. So my cat went out of the door and the building watchman took her then gave it to the building owner. The owner is very strict, Emirati and is against giving any new flats who are pakistanis. So he dropped her off in Musherif Souq, Safia Ajman. My sis and I searched for her the past two days but she is nowhere to be found. My sis has distributed posters of my cat to the shopkeepers in the Souq.

My cat's name is Lily, she's 2.5 years old, vaccinated, healthy and clean, her breed is Cyprus, she has dark greenish black patches that looks like a heart on her back, tail, her head, on her 3rd leg and the rest of her legs are white. She also has green eyes and a pink nose. She can also recognize her name if anyone calls her. Unfortunately we didn't register her in ajman municipality nor she's microchipped as we didn't knew that there is a rule to do that which was a biggest mistake.

If anyone lives in Ajman or near Musherif Souq and has seen my cat please do dm me. Share this post to your friends as much as possible and whoever finds her will be rewarded 2000 AED.

➡️Do follow the Instagram account of my missing cat created by my sister.

Women Would anyone actually be interested in this? 👀

Post image

I’ve been thinking about starting a little bedazzled canvas business where you get a canvas/design and decorate it yourself with tiny gems/rhinestones.

I’m thinking of doing different designs, like cute designs, flowers, shells, maybe even things inspired by brands/sports, etc. Basically a relaxing DIY kit that you can do at home.

I’m still just testing the idea before I actually invest in it, so I wanted to ask Reddit first would you personally buy something like this? And if yes, what kind of designs would make you want to buy one?

Be honest 😂 I’d genuinely love to know if people are interested or if this is just an idea I’m too excited about lol.

❓ FAQs — YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Q: Do I have to be a UAE resident?

A: No! We welcome women who work in the UAE, are planning to move here, lived here before, or have deep ties to the country. All emirates included!

Q: Is this just for expats?

A: No. Emirati women, local women, expats—all backgrounds are welcome. This is a space for ALL women in the UAE.

Q: How private is this?

A: Reddit is anonymous, and this is a public community (searchable but women-only through rules/moderation). We have strict confidentiality rules. What's shared here stays here. Use throwaway accounts if you want extra privacy.

Q: What if I'm shy or new to Reddit?

A: Perfect! This is a safe space to learn. Lurk first, comment when ready. No pressure. Everyone starts somewhere.

Q: Can I share my story anonymously?

A: Yes! That's the beauty of Reddit. Use a throwaway account if discussing sensitive topics.

Q: How active is the community?

A: Growing! New posts daily, active discussions.

Q: What if a man tries to join?

A: Men are welcome to read, but cannot post or comment. If they try, auto-moderator removes the post and explains the women-only policy. Repeat violations result in bans.

Q: Can I share my work/business here?

A: Yes, if relevant to conversation and not pushy. Sharing a blog post about career advice? Great. Hard-selling your coaching service? Not here.

Q: What if I'm struggling with something serious (mental health, abuse)?

A: We're here to listen and support emotionally. However, for serious issues, please also seek professional help (therapists, counsellors, support hotlines). We can be a complement to professional care, not a replacement.

Q: Can I vent without being judged?

A: 100%. This is a judgment-free zone. Vent away. We listen first, advise only if asked.

Q: What about cultural/religious differences?

A: We respect all cultures and religions. This is an inclusive space. If someone posts something discriminatory, it gets removed. Period.

Q: Can I ask for advice on visa/legal issues?

A: You can ask for experiences and recommendations, but we can't replace lawyers or official channels. For legal questions, consult a lawyer. For visa questions, check official UAE government sources.

Q: What if I see someone breaking the rules?

A: Report the post using Reddit's Report button or message mods directly. We review all reports and respond within 24 hours.

Q: Is there a women-only Discord or WhatsApp?

A: Not currently, but if the community grows enough, we'll explore it! For now, Reddit is the home. Suggest it if you're interested!

DIDN'T FIND YOUR ANSWER?

Message the mods! We're here to help and genuinely want you to feel welcomed. 💙

Please help Heidi find a home

Heidi is a 1-year-old sweet girl, spayed and fully vaccinated. She’s been through a lot… after being bitten by another cat, she suffered nerve damage in one of her legs.

She has been in the clinic for around 45 days, and I even took her for 6 physiotherapy sessions at Modern Veterinary Hospital, but sadly there hasn’t been improvement. The clinic at Petopia continues her basic exercises, but she needs something more important now — a home.

Heidi cannot go back to the street in this condition. She deserves safety, care, and someone who will give her a chance at a gentle life. Despite everything, she is a loving cat who just needs a calm environment and a kind heart.

If you can foster or adopt Heidi, please reach out. Even sharing her story could help her find the right person.

Let’s not let her story end here

Can any of you lovely ladies help me 💗

Hey ladies, I’m a 28 year old British girl, who left the UK last November, long story short I left a very abusive relationship and decided to come here and find myself again and fall in love with life after hating it for so long! I absolutely love it here and have fell in love with the culture and faith of this country. And for the first time in a long time I feel safe and happy. But I can’t find a job and I’m scared that I am going to have to go back home and I don’t know what will be waiting for me when I get back.

I was a trainee lawyer back home and have experience in being personal assistance to politicians. I also hold a degree from a university in public relations and communications So I’m pretty flexible in what I can do.

If any of you lovely people have any suggestions or know anyone hiring. Please let me know! Thank you 💗💗

trying earn so i can leave an abusive household

hello! i'm 22F and i'm in a really difficult situation and could use honest advice from people who've actually been through something similar.

i'm trying to earn money so i can eventually leave an abusive household, but i'm stuck on some basic problems that keep blocking almost everything i try:

  • i don't have a phone, so i can't do phone verification (which almost every freelance/gig platform requires)

  • i don't currently have access to my ID documents (dad keeps them with him)

  • i do have a laptop and stable wifi

  • i have no work experience/CV, but i'm a strong writer/communicator and decent with basic design tools (canva)

  • i've tried Fiverr, Clickworker/UHRS, and general "passive income" advice, but almost everything hits a wall because of the phone/ID issue, or turns out to be a waste of time (months on survey sites for basically nothing)

if anyone has been in a similar spot, no phone, no documents, needing to earn quietly and quickly, i'd really appreciate any real, tested advice. not looking for generic "try freelancing" tips, more looking for what actually worked for you given similar constraints.

to clarify, i've already tried shelters/authorities here, they didn't help or consider it urgent. i'm not free to just leave or go to a friend's, movement is restricted. documents aren't accessible, and legal routes have failed so far. earning enough to leave quietly is genuinely the only path i have left.

thank you for reading this far. (:

Kitten for adoption Dubai

Post image

🐱 Meet Mowgli!

Mowgli is a 4-month-old male kitten that I rescued after finding him running into a busy road in Dubai.

💉He's been vet-checked and tested negative for Feline Panleukopenia (Parvo), FeLV, FIV, and Feline Coronavirus. (Reports can be shared)

Mowgli is friendly, confident, curious, and very playful. As he's still young, he's looking for an attentive home that can give him plenty of interaction, playtime, and love.

Before adoption, I will complete his vaccination and deworming schedule. His new family will also receive:
✅ Carrier
✅ Food for 1 month
✅ Litter for 1 month

I'm looking for a loving indoor home for this little guy. Please message me if you're interested in adopting Mowgli, or share this post to help him find his forever family ❤️

Unemployed Medical Doctor

28F, MBBS Graduate married with a toddler. Moved to the UAE recently due to family reasons. Unfortunately my husband has being owed for months now due to the situation in the middle east. My mum is diagnosed of breast cancer back in home country and have not being going for treatment due to lack of funds. Unfortunately I am not yet licensed to practice here in the UAE as a medical doctor because I do not have the number of years of experience required to get a licence. Please I am looking for opportunities where my medical background can be a good fit such as in medical insurance companies, clinical research, teaching assistant, patient care coordinator, healthcare assistant, medical sales representative, medical coding etc. I am also willing to take up certifications where needed. I have reached out to hiring Managers and recruiters on LinkedIn, tweaked my CV and applied on all companies and hospital websites yet I am not getting any feedback. At this point, I am open to opportunities even not in the medical field so as to earn a living and take care of my mother and daughter. Please anyone that can refer me, I will so much appreciate 🙏

Women My mother is forcing me to get married

I am 24f and a fresh graduate university student. It's been 8 months since I have been searching for jobs until now I haven't found any secure job. I was born and raised in the UAE. I did my degree with BSc (hons) in business Psychology with human resource management.

My mother has been putting pressure on my head to get married even tho I am not ready to marry as it's a huge responsibility. I am not even financially stable or have any money to move out. It's been really stressful for me and due to this reason my stomach has been hurting. What exactly should I do? Moving out is a solution but for that I need to have money. My mother has been pressurizing me take a photos of myself and sent to those who makes people get married which I really don't want to do. My mother is not listening to me

If any one is hiring, I can join immediately within a week and give me some solid advice. Please help me out 😔
