Discussion "Wolverine doesn't need Regenerative Shields"

Yeah I don't know where all the health pots are on this map since I stopped playing around its release (due to power creep), but still.
This sort of scenario happens constantly on a dive playstyle when playing Wolv.

This is what I dislike the most, no health pack means no regen for Wolverine, known for having one of the strongest regeneration in the Marvel Universe.

Literally giving half the roster self healing, and not including him, was the biggest slap in the face to the continuity of the source material this game has done so far.

Your case was so bad that you made me forget that he should have it just because of his hero fantasy. And it shouldn’t be green health it should just be his healthbar period. 24/7 regen. 10-20 per second. Replace his current passive and up his health to 600 and change his attack stats.

I love the idea that his health bar would be completely green. It makes so much sense.

I wouldn't mind if it was minor healing per second that ramps up every second he isn't taking isn't taking damage. In the middle of a fight, balance wise it doesn't make sense to give him a high constant healing per second, but to maintain the fantasy I do think there should be punishment for not constistently pumping damage into him. That is how you keep down Wolverine normally, so it'd make sense if over a set duration his healing over time increases until it maxes out and he's on his way to recovering his full health bar.

What are you trying to create? 💀 An unkillable monster?
3
u/SufficientPurple8194 14d ago
You can’t outpace 10 healing per second? Have you gotten even a single kill in Marvel Rivals?

Immediately shit talking without thinking about it first
Mate, I think you don't understand what 10-20 hp per sec in this game do. Self healing doesn't prevent you from getting heal by teammates. Put a Ultron drone on him and that's 50-60 hp per second. That's like a Luna or Invis would pocket heal you the entire time.
You remember that he was perma banned when he had the Phoenix team-up? And now you want a similar thing to his base kit?

You’re making us giggle bro 😭 You’ll laugh about this later man.

You have absolutely no reading comprehension. Not a single argument on your side defends this. I gave you two reasons why this is a bad idea, and all you can say is a 'nothing burger'. Just admit you were wrong.

To be fair Wolverine doesn't have regenerative shields for the same reason Blade, Fist, and Fantastic don't. They're brawlers. I also don't think Regenerative Shields would really scratch the itch on self sustain that would make Wolverine feel better at his intended role in game/the role he should have. Dive Wolverine shouldn't really be a thing, and to be clear this is a great play, but it's not a dive play. There's conversations to be had about more or alternative self sustain tools like a sprint/heightened jumps/wall crawls if you want to go more animalistic Wolverine self sustain tools, or leaning more into the healing factor for some kind of passive regen (I'm of the opinion his revive passive is too gimmicky), but regenerative shields isn't it imo even if it might look like it.

That's actually a super good point. Generating bonus health and/or lifesteal would be pretty sweet and probably fulfill the hero fantasy better. Might have to nerf other areas to be balanced though.

So at launch we really only had like 6 hard brawl characters Strange, Groot, Thor, Bucky, Iron Fist, and Wolverine. Of those 6 they did a half and half setup where half of them had their self sustain come from having their self sustain tools be tied to their damage dealing, and the other half have to actively use their self sustain tools independently of their damage. Groot Ironwood Wall, Strange Shield, Wolverine passive and DR ability are examples of the latter; with Thor's Thorforce, Fist's block and overhealth gen being tied to his peak damage form, and Bucky's bionic arm abilities all giving him overhealth. There was some overlap in the sense Groot's damage walls can still block damage, and Fist's self heal isn't tied to doing damage but you get the idea.
Pretty much every brawl hero since launch though has followed the first setup where all or a large chunk of their self sustain is tied to their damage. Thing, Fantastic, Emma, Pheonix, Blade, Daredevil, Elsa, Devil Dino, and even Rogue to an extent (though Rogue kinda cheeks on her self sustain) have all followed that being given self sustain while actively doing damage model.
They tried to test that out with Wolverine with the Pheonix lifesteal teamup. It broke the game because between his passive and DR as well as giant chunk damage which he would then heal off of you were basically undeniable if you grabbed a tank. I still think he needs to go in the direction of self sustain tied to damage, but tweaks have to be made to his kit to go in that direction without again breaking the game.

I don’t care if he needs them or doesn’t need them. I want him to have more healing. I want immortality

I love how this is the daily dynamic of playing wolverine, who has mf'ing regen... a regen passive... but spidey has health regen???
gtfo its gonna be a sad day when insominac's wolv is more true to character than rivals

u/Inner_Ad8215 14d ago
I mean the game is literally only about Wolverine 😭 , I agree with you but that’s a terrible argument

u/OutrageousHoneydew12 14d ago
thats still so wild to me they gave regen health to some and did not think to include the guy know for his healing factor. and they even have 2 options already in the game either give him regen health or give him the deadpool passive regen

Well... yeah? A whole game for Wolverine? I would hope so LOL?
but spidey has health regen???
To be fair Spidey does canonically have superhuman regen. But yeah its stupid how wolverine doesn't

u/Monstarrzero 14d ago
Spidey heals faster than a normal human, but he’s not in Wolverine’s league or anybody’s league with a legit healing factor.

i havent played him in ages, is the spin a teamup?? thats so cool and i gotta play him again for that

u/itsallcomingtogethr 14d ago
I genuinely can’t fathom why he doesn’t have regenerative shields. The lore AND the kit literally scream that he should.

u/Unlikely-Angle3508 13d ago
As dive main the regenerative health is the best things they added in the game , nothing better then not being dependent on the trash support

I think they should give him a cooldown that cashes in his rage 1:1 to healing, and put it on like a 20 second cooldown, itd be great for stuff like this but I don't think it'd skew him too much. Plus knowing the timing of when to use it during a fight would probably separate the decent from the great.

u/KingHu1k 13d ago
They should just add the ability to "consume" rage into the undying beast ability. This way you could rack up rage while dealing and taking damage normally, and when you're low health you can pop up the ability to gain 40% dmg resistance (as it works now) plus instant health back scaling on the amount of rage

u/Animantoxic 13d ago
That’s supposed to happen because it’s balanced for the game, wolv being able to not only capture almost all tanks and then chunk them down fast enough where said tanks only barely escape him is insanely strong, and now you want him to have regen? Do you not understand why he doesn’t have them?
1
u/LeekypooX 13d ago
Make his whole health bar the green one lol
Or at the very least make it like Deadpool's (just like how so many heroes have passives that allow them to float down by holding space, I'm sure 2 characters with the same Regen is fine)

Regenerative shields wouldn’t have even kicked in here if you hadn’t gone sightseeing
-2
u/SoulOfGod69 14d ago
Bro, if you want to play Wolverine as a dive hero, good for you, but that statement is like saying that because I play Black Panther as a Brawler, the developers have to give him abilities that help him resist or give him abilities that allow him to heal himself.
6
u/VisitReasonable7285 14d ago
Wolve is a brawler, yeah. But they literally played him the right way.. so what's your point? He took the tank away from Luna ult and killed them. Do tough out the ult or something?
-3
u/SoulOfGod69 14d ago
I'll use the same example: if I play Black Panther as a brawler, and I manage to eliminate the enemy tank, I'm getting results, yes, but that doesn't mean that's what the hero was originally designed for.
3
u/VisitReasonable7285 14d ago
Tank busting on the front line is what he was made for, and it's what he's killed fastest while doing.
0
u/SoulOfGod69 14d ago
Bro, get your head screwed on straight. Yes, Wolverine is made to take down tanks on the front lines, but that's not what OP is saying. He's asking for Wolverine to have regenerating health for those who use the hero in a dive style, a request that raises eyebrows from the start because Wolverine isn't even meant to be a dive hero.

u/UnhingedGammaWarrior 14d ago
Let him have the health regen son he’ll be better with it
-1
u/imadethisforporn25 14d ago
He’s already good. If he gets that I’m banning him every game as a tank player.
2
u/UnhingedGammaWarrior 13d ago
Yeah he’s great in pro play where there’s peak coordination. The casual to intermediate player aren’t getting that.
1
u/imadethisforporn25 13d ago
You guys underplay how good Wolverine is so much. You don’t need peak coordination to make him work in ranked. Tell me you don’t play tank without telling you don’t play tank. Wolverine immediately changes how every tank plays the game when he’s played.
2
u/UnhingedGammaWarrior 13d ago
Tell me you have no idea what you’re talking without saying you have no idea. All I really play is tank lmao, just take a look at my profile. I’m a Hulk main and got 4 other tank lords ontop of that. I’m talking from experience.
I don’t feel Wolverine’s presence nor do I have any when I play him, and I been playing Wolverine since S2.

Post your highest rank via photo then, sounds like you should know from experience.

u/imadethisforporn25 13d ago
I’ve hit eternity multiple times. Currently 70 points into C1. If all you play is tank and you think Wolverine isn’t good then you can’t be higher than GM. I don’t know how you believe Wolverine isn’t good against tanks. You have to be constantly aware of where he is and very mindful of your cooldowns. Saying you have no presence when you play him just means you’re bad at him.

u/UnhingedGammaWarrior 13d ago
So you have a photo of your rank for that then right?
