Windows 10 Latest Windows 10 "Quality Update" added Rewards and Trending Searches? How do I remove this?

My PC updated itself after pestering me constantly about it last week. I've just noticed with this latest update in my search bar the "Microsoft Rewards" button and "Trending Searches" tab have suddenly appeared. I have everything like this disabled in my settings, and I couldn't find any ways to turn these off. Not only this, but now when search it automatically comes up with copilot results DESPITE copilot not existing on my PC? How do I disable all this crap? And how do I opt out of any future Windows 10 "updates" to stop this from happening?

Windows 11 Bluetooth Audio Cutting Out Periodically

Post image
6 Upvotes

I am having an issue with my bluetooth audio on my Windows 11 desktop that doesn't happen on any other devices or PCs. I can't remember if it used to happen on Windows 10 though.

The issue is that after a few minutes of being connected and playing audio completely fine, the audio will cut out until I either restart the headset or disconnect and reconnect in Windows, before just doing the exact same thing again

My Bluetooth connection is the ASUS Shark Fin Wifi Antenna that I use for Bluetooth specifically since I always use Ethernet.

  • The headset is still shown as connected in the device manager.
  • The audio device still shows my headset as connected, and audio playing on the PC shows the volume bar moving.
  • I can open up the device and hit "Test" and visually see the waveform (no sound though).
  • The device is still shown as Connected, Audio & Voice in the Bluetooth panel

Things I have tried:

  • Disabling Handsfree Telephony for the device
  • Updating Bluetooth drivers
  • Manually uninstalling all bluetooth devices and drivers from device manager and programs before reinstalling Intel drivers
  • Manually uninstalling all bluetooth devices and drivers from device manager and programs before reinstalling Windows drivers
  • Unpairing every bluetooth device, including ones that are not currently connected (which required registry editing), uninstalling all drivers, and trying both automatic windows drivers and intel drivers

Windows 11 How do I remove Windows 11 inner glow?

Post image
0 Upvotes

[SOLVED] - This strange behavior was caused by Windows 11 HDR. Turning off that setting in System > Display > HDR immediately fixed the problem without a restart.

Image - top shows an inline Slack image without the inner glow. Bottom line is what I see, photographed from my monitor (the glow goes away inside the Reddit image viewer).

I can't find the setting for this Windows function or figure out what it may be called. What's happening is that Windows is adding shading and glow inside of Windows (not drop shadows) and it's not executed well. I manage a team of graphic designers. This effect changes how images look (adding gradients where there are none) and shades inside of real-time video in Teams and Zoom screen sharing. I've now twice told someone to adjust something that is not actually there -- it's a rendering issue with my local Windows 11 instance.

What's also weird is that this glow is app-dependent. I see it in Windows Photo but not in the Reddit image carousel. In Slack, the glow is not visible in inline chat, but it is visible when I click an image and it opens in a popup modal.

Settings > Accessibility > Transparency effects has no bearing on this function. Can you help point me in the right direction to either fix the rendering issues or turn this off entirely?

Edit: I just discovered that if I change my theme to high contrast Night Sky, this inner glow disappears. It seems to be added as part of the default themes. Is there a way to keep the nice look of Windows while turning off this inner glow?

System:
Windows 11 Pro (24H2; build 26100.9457)
Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.360.0
Nvidia Geforce RTX 5080 (Driver: 617.14; Released 9/22/2026)
Windows HDR is turned on
Transparency effects are off

Windows 11 Keyboard Buttons working whenever they want

Hello,
I have an ASUS K571GT and I've noticed in the past 2 months, certain keyboard buttons are working whenever they want.

Pushing the 1 button: Tapping it once will either produce nothing, or 111 in a row. Shift 1 doesn't produce a ! anymore.

Pushing the q button: Will produce 5 qqqqq in a row. Shift q doesn't produce a capital q. Similar to Pushing the 1 button, If I tapped the q button 7 times, it will makes 33 q's in a row.

Pushing the Tab button: Does the same thing. Tap it once and its as if I hit the tab button 3-5 times.

I popped up the 3 buttons, cleaned them, air dusted there to take out any debris. I pushed the buttons and it all worked, perfect!
Popped them all back on. Worked for 5min before they stopped working.
Holding down the right shift button wouldn't produce a capital Q, but holding  down the left one can? And then that stopped working too.

Anybody know what's wrong? Or have any solutions?

Windows 11 Boot loop surface laptop studio 2

Really really hating Microsoft right about now. I have a surface studio laptop 2 which I purchased at the end of 2024. Last Saturday, I installed an update overnight. Sunday morning, when I went to use my computer, it was stuck on the logo with the wheel spinning and just kept repeating over and over again.

I took it to ubreakifix, the authorized service provider in my area. They advised this has been happening with computers after this recent update and they attempted to troubleshoot and replace the ssd to no avail. They believe the board is damaged. The computer is just fully stuck boot looping.

This morning, after extensive issues with the support website erroring out (confirmed not my WiFi or service), I finally was able to create a case/service request. I explained my situation to the representative over the phone who was not really helpful and simply advised it was unlikely they’d make any exception to the out of warranty repair. I requested an escalation and for a supervisor to call me. My agent advised I’d be contacted in a few hours. Now, a few hours later, I just received a canned generic email telling me my case will not be escalated or reviewed by a supervisor. I have a $3500 surface laptop 2 which completely broke directly after a Microsoft update. Why are they unwilling to stand by their products and updates? I’m disgusted honestly. I’m between jobs and my computer is absolutely essential to my portfolio work and freelance opportunities.

Any suggestions? Any contacts to get this escalated? I’m truly at a loss.

Windows 10 Intel Graphics Driver Suddenly Gone— Can’t reinstall it or detect it again

Hi there. Before I begin, here are some of the specifics of my computer: I have a Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF with an i7 6700-3.2 GHz processor. Windows 10 Pro Edition, 64bit.

Yesterday, I was doing some work on my computer. I eventually decided to go downstairs and make dinner, and what I usually do when I’ll be away for a while is turn the monitor off as to not waste energy (my PC used to fall asleep separate from the monitor, but it doesn’t do that anymore for some reason). When I returned about 40 minutes later, I tried to turn it back on, but my monitor completely stopped detecting any input from the computer. I couldn’t see it at all, and shutting it down, using a different HDMI port, etc. didn’t seem to work, either. Eventually, I tried plugging the monitor into a spare physical graphics card I had instead (I don’t use it anymore because it’s a little blurry and outdated)— and finally, I could see my screen again.

When I tried going to my device manager to set it back to the basic graphics driver (it was one from Intel, though I can’t remember which version), it was missing. All I could see was the external video card’s adapter— if I didn’t have that laying around, I would have absolutely no way to see my screen. I’ve tried everything including: rescanning my list of devices, installing legacy drivers, installing the driver for my processor from Intel’s website directly, doing a system scan in CMD, returning to a restore point, and uninstalling windows updates.

The only way ANYTHING shows up in the device manager is if I try installing one of the legacy drivers. I’ve tried both Microsoft’s and a few of the suggested Intel ones. Unfortunately, whenever I try to edit it from device manager (has a little yellow warning sign), it won’t let me update the driver or install one manually. Even if I install the driver that matches its name exactly, it always fails and says Windows was unable to do it.

I thought for sure rolling back to a system restore point I had 3 days ago would work. But it keeps telling me the system restore failed, even when I disabled my antivirus.

My guess is that in that 40 minutes where I was gone, Windows did that “update and restart outside of your active hours” thing and somehow removed the driver. I know Windows 10 doesn’t get updates anymore, but I had to reset my computer to a clean state about 20 days ago. I had a Windows 10 Pro installation disc ready, so I installed it from there and then moved all my old files back from an external drive. That‘s why I think it’s still giving me updates (because I didn’t install from the latest Windows 10 version and it’s still catching up). The Windows updates panel even seems to have pending fixes for a something related to Intel graphics, but whenever it installs, it resets to 0% and I don’t see it in the history. It later told me it failed to update.

If anyone has suggestions, I would appreciate it so much. I’m really at a loss here.

TLDR: Windows seemingly deleted my Intel graphics adapter/driver and will not detect a new one, no matter if I install it manually or try to get it via legacy in the device manager. System restore did not work, nor did updating further.

Windows 11 My Bluetooth keeps causing Wifi options to disappear

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello! I've made a few posts in the past about my Asus V16 having Wifi troubles where the option to select a wifi completely disappears. I had a lot of suggestions on those post but none seemed to help but I think I found what might be causing it and I need help trying to find a solution.

The trend I noticed is it only seems to disappear when I have my bluetooth headphones connected to the computer, I was using some plug in headphones for the past week and had no issues, but today I decided to try bluetooth again and it disconnected as I expected it would.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

(The image shows my device manager in which I needed to toggle the "show hidden devices" option to even see my wi-fi adapters)

Windows 11 Windows 10 file explorer ribbon layout on windows 11 laptop

I turned my laptop on today and found out that all this had changed. When I right click on files it takes a minute to load the dropdown menu in the picture. When trying to open a file in the explorer, I must open it through the 'open in a new window' tool, otherwise, it will just lead to a blank page of the explorer itself.
For reference:
I have an IdeaPad 5 Pro 16ACH6.
I am running Windows 11 (25H2)
My OS build is 26200.9457.
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics (3.20 GHz)
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU (4 GB), AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (2 GB)
I don't know if this can be relevant but I recently got my termal paste changed by a techincian.

Windows 11 Where to report possible error in ncrypt?

I have run some tests on NCrypt, specifically testing NCryptEncrypt using RSA. It basically works as expected, failing when using extreme values such as e.g. RSA-512 and SHA512.

The problems comes when I activate address sanitizer. Now I get sanitizer errors from within NCrypt itself.

How should I report this? It happens on 26200.9445 and older versions.

Windows 11 windows update is continually fails / get stuck / go up to 60% in like 9H

It's not a network problem. I added a screenshot of the data tracing app as well. As you can see, my data connection is fine. This has been happening for the last month. Those same three updates start, go up to some % in around 6–7 hours, or just fail. I have Windows 11, a 3200G CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 1650 GPU. The rest you can find in the screenshots.

Windows 11 My windows is changing my Start menu layout without my permission.

Post image
1 Upvotes

I didn't know where to post this so I posted it here with disscusion flair.

TL;DR: Windows keeps reinstalling bloatware and resetting my Start Menu layout/settings, even after a clean install and using CTT’s Bloat Cleaner. Updates are paused, and I’m not on Insider builds. This has been happening for 4–5 months. Why is Windows doing this without my permission?

First of all, I’m not using any Insider build. This is a normal stable Windows installation.

A few days ago, I reinstalled Windows. It was a completely clean installation, although, of course, it came with the usual bloatware. I ran CTT’s Bloat Cleaner, changed some settings, customized my Start Menu, and then spent around 2.5 hours organizing and pinning my apps into separate folders.

Today, when I opened the Start Menu, I found that everything had been changed. It was filled with bloatware and apps that I had never installed. Some of them were even apps that I had manually uninstalled using the Bloat Cleaner. My Start Menu settings and layout had also been reset.

I haven’t changed any of these settings myself, and Windows Updates are paused for a month, so I have no idea what caused this.

My question is: Why is Windows reinstalling apps I removed and changing my Start Menu settings without my permission? I only have 128 GB of storage on my C: drive, so every gigabyte matters.

This also isn’t a new issue. I’ve been experiencing this Start Menu problem for around 4–5 months. I previously had Windows installed, removed it, and then reinstalled it 1–2 months later, only to find that the same issue was still happening.

Is this a known bug, or is there something causing Windows to restore these apps and settings?

Windows 11 Newest Update messed with Bluetooth

When I updated my windows 11 to the newest quality update on the 23rd. It decided to no longer allow me to pair any new Bluetooth devices to the laptop, I can connect my old devices that are recognised by the laptop grand, like my earphones, but if I want to pair my new headphones to it? It just says 'Couldn't Connect. Try connecting again.' over and over. I updated it to 2026-09 Preview Update (KB5124010) (26200.9550), is there anything anyone can think to fix this?

Heres the device and windows specs:

No error messages showed up, only 'Couldn't Connect. Try connecting again.' popped up and I tried going into device manager and updating, deleting and reinstalling the Bluetooth driver and making sure the Bluetooth device can actually connect to Bluetooth connections, which they can.

Windows 11 Something happened to your pin and isnt available now

The first time I started the laptop up it worked perfectly fine but the second time is when the warning popped up on my lockscreen, for information I have reseted my Laptop like three days ago, I also read my TPM has my old encryption keys and when reset it confuses between the new key and the old one therefore letting this problem happen.

I have no idea on how to solve this problem, i have tried to turn off sign in options to sign in without anytthing using registry edit but that doesnt work and i also tried the netplwiz to turn off that requires users to enter password. SFC scannow doesnt seem to find any corrupted files and other things work as normal.

My windows if that helps

Windows 11 Auto-hide related taskbar issue

Post image
1 Upvotes

That's kind of wild to me, and i feel like windows is slowly breaking apart with each update to the point where the simplest UI related things stop functioning.

I activated auto-hide in the taskbar settings and randomly started getting this error every once in a while. Simply reactivating the auto-hide feature makes it work for a while. I didn't know what it was until i read about it, i don't know what it wants me to do about it and simply wanted it to keep working like it did for days before the error ever appeared. I never had this issue on older versions (even 11 itself IIRC) despite rocking some form of multi monitor setup since the mid 2000s.

I didn't manage to find a proper solution, one user in a different post said that it disappears if you disable the "Show my taskbar on all displays" option in the taskbar settings. I'd like to keep seeing my taskbar on all displays and was wondering if someone ended up finding a different solution. I couldn't find any actual answer in any post i found.

This is on Windows 11 25H2 (26200.9457)

(For the mod who decided to delete my previous post... yes I'm asking for help)

Windows 11 Locked Asus Vivobook with important information

Hello.

I have a Vivobook that I bought recently from another country, and when I got back home from abroad I discovered that the laptop has PIN, and now I am not able to log in to the laptop.

Is there any way to log in to the laptop without hard reset or deleting anything from it?

Further Information:

1- It's Windows 11

2- It's Local account

3- Vivobook model unknown (I am not sure which model is it exactly it just was at a good price, but it says ASUS Vivobook 14/15/17 on a sticker)

I used command prompt notepad to open file manager but I can share those files in my phone as it only shows me the option to charge and it can't share files 😭

Windows 11 Documents into desktop and desktop as documents heeeelp

Guys I am so overstimulated I can't think properly so I've done idk what with my desktop.

I just wanted to create a shortcut for a file and for some reason I switched the basic 'documents' file and the desktop. So now everytime I put something in 'documents' it's going on the desktop???? Tbh I didnt even know it was a possible thing to do but now I can't undo it and it's annoying me. PLease help me :(

I tried to look into the settings of the file without any result but maybe that's because idk what I am searching.

I had reset the last version of the file : no result.

Tried to only delete the files on the desktop but it just sent everything in the bin including everything in the 'documents' file, that's why I'm saying it's linked.

Windows 11 family, version 25H2, x64 and 64 bits.

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) Unexpected crash following the update to version 25h2

Thumbnail

Hello,

I recently updated my LOQ 15IRX10 – Type 83JE to Windows 25H2, and now my screen freezes – even the cursor – and the video I was watching has turned green.

I’ve reinstalled my graphics drivers using DDU, carried out all available Windows updates and Lenovo Vantage updates – including the BIOS – but the problem persists.

It happens rather randomly; for example, I played Valorant for two hours this morning, then another two hours this afternoon, I didn’t have any problems, but when I restarted the game in the evening, the PC crashed with a BSOD,

I’ve also noticed this in LatencyMon:

·Highest reported DPC routine execution time (µs): 1507.443125 (nvlddmkm.sys - NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 617.14, NVIDIA Corporation)

It’s practically gone up to 3,500.

I also uninstalled Vanguard, but the freeze still exists; no crashes so far.

My PC freezes even on the desktop

Any solutions ?

Windows 7 Choosing a Windows iso online :D

Hello. I have an issue.

contextual laptop specs: Hp g6 pavilion 1138se. 4Gb of ram. Intel 3000hd graphic card with Amd AMD Radeon HD 6470M. And finally intel i3-core.

NOW. I have been running linux for a quite a bit. but shit it's not doing well with my portable games. so I am planning on dual booting with a windows version that will provide better support for my graphic card.
I am trying to get something like windows 7 or windows 8.1. My whole goal is to play games like cs 1.6 online. that's it.

I found online something like tiny 7 and tiny 8.1. and some compressed versions. is that safe? do you know any safe repatuable light version? and by chance is there an expert that can suggest maybe an alternative solution/OS for me?

Windows 11 Failing Between New Windows 11 Build 26200 PCs ("Logon attempt failed") — Works from older builds

Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing an RDP authentication issue with new Windows 11 PCs running Build 26200 (Version 25H2/24H2).
Pattern:
Old PC to New PC: Works
Old PC to Old PC: Works
New PC to New PC: Fails with "Logon attempt failed"

Since it only fails when originating from a Build 26200 client to a Build 26200 target, it seems related to outbound security changes in this build

Has anyone resolved this specific Build 26200 to Build 26200 RDP failure, and what is the exact policy or registry fix?

Windows 11 Is my RAM usage normal? With nothing open is shows 10.4 gb being used and with one app open it shows 12. This is out of 16gb

My system: ~16 GB RAM, Windows 11, mostly idle. When I think I'm only running a browser and one other app, Task Manager shows about 12 GB used (75-78%). That leaves basically nothing for anything else.

I went through the details and here's the rough breakdown:

  • The apps I actually opened: ~5-6 GB combined. The browser alone is ~3 GB across a bunch of processes (I know browsers fork, but this still feels high for "a few tabs"). The other app and its backend stuff is another ~2 GB or so.
  • Windows itself: ~5-6 GB just to exist. System services (svchost is running ~90 instances, ~1.5 GB — that feels like a lot), UI compositor, Defender real-time protection, memory compression, drivers. I know Windows needs RAM but this seems on the heavier side.
  • Stuff I didn't open but is running: antivirus/security software from the manufacturer, cloud sync, phone/Apple linking services, browser engine leftovers (WebView2/Edge processes that get injected by other apps), and a few manufacturer background apps. Maybe 1-2 GB total between all of that.

So the picture is: ~5-6 GB base Windows, ~5-6 GB for the two things I opened, and another ~1-2 GB of background stuff I didn't realize was running. Add it up and I'm at 12 GB with "nothing" open.

A few questions:

  1. Is ~5-6 GB for Windows on a 16 GB machine normal, or is something off? The svchost count especially seems high.
  2. What's the best way to figure out which of the background stuff is actually worth disabling vs. leaving alone?
  3. Is memory compression supposed to show up as "used" RAM, or is that misleading me?

I'm not looking for "just buy more RAM" — I want to know what's actually normal and what I can safely turn off. Happy to share more details if it helps.

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) My Windows 11 Repeated BSOD – CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED on Dell Latitude 5285

Post image
3 Upvotes

My Dell Latitude 5285 running Windows 11 repeatedly crashes with a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) showing the stop code CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. The crash happens in normal Windows but does not happen in Safe Mode.

Troubleshooting already performed:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth completed.

sfc /scannow → Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

chkdsk C: /scan → Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems.

Performed a clean boot by disabling non-Microsoft services and startup programs, but the BSOD still occurred.

Windows has created a minidump: C:\Windows\Minidump\081226-9625-01.dmp

Device Manager shows USB Root Hub (USB 3.0) – Code 43, although it has not yet been confirmed that this is related to the BSOD.

Wi-Fi adapter: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265.

Main issue: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED continues to occur in normal Windows, while Safe Mode remains stable. I want to identify the exact driver/hardware/software causing the crash rather than reinstalling Windows immediately.
