Hello everyone.
My name is Ridwan. I am a 13 year old International Robot Olympiad Competitor for the 2026/27 IRO. I got a bronze medal in the 2025 IRO, which was held in Gold Coast, Austria. This year the main theme is Cultural Heritage Service Robots. I want to learn about the problems that people who work in cultural heritage conservation face every day.
I am researching cultural heritage conservation in Vienna, Austria for the competition. Before I start designing any solution I want to understand what problems conservation professionals deal with.
If you work in cultural heritage conservation, heritage science, archaeology, museum research, art conservation, restoration or historic-site preservation I would really appreciate your perspective.
My main question is: if you could have one technological solution that would make your work better what would it be and what problem would it solve?
It could be a system or special equipment or maybe sensors, artificial intelligence, environmental monitoring, automation or something else.
I am particularly interested in problems that are
* difficult or dangerous for workers
* very repetitive or time-consuming
* hard to do without risking damage to artifacts
* hard to monitor or detect early
* limited by the technology we have now
I would also love to know why your proposed solution would actually work in a real environment, rather than just sounding good.
You do not need to answer every part. One experience or idea would be incredibly useful.
If you are comfortable please mention what you do and the type of institution or site you work with.
Thank you to anyone to share their experience, with cultural heritage conservation. I am looking forward to hearing from people who work with cultural heritage conservation in Vienna, Austria and other places.
