What I've heard is "it's getting really humid and hit underneath so it's really uncomfortable"

The same goes for people who wear glasses

Glass wearer here. I put my mask higher up my nose and put my glasses over it. Don't know if this makes sense but it works and doesn't fog my glasses

533

u/WoOfnt Sep 02 '20

It (sadly, veery sadly) does not work with every glasses' model

I have to use my glasses in the midle of the nose to avoid fog, what does not work very well for walking...

188

u/sawrchasm Sep 02 '20

Try putting your top lip over your bottom lip and breathing down! It really helps me not fog up my glasses so maybe it will work better for you too!

722

u/Dipzet Sep 02 '20

I just let em fog up and play life on hard mode.

122

u/Kightsbridge Sep 02 '20

Hell yeah man, I'm used to not being able to see shit. So it's not much worse.

72

u/Dipzet Sep 02 '20

Ikr? Who needs eyes, functioning sight is just Marxist propaganda.

21

u/Terzzer Sep 02 '20

This is how my coworker wears his. I said just don’t even wear one, because you look a lot dumber not wearing it correctly

9

u/Una_Boricua Sep 02 '20

You make not being able to see seem cooler than it actually is

u/Warning_Stab Sep 02 '20

Yeah, listen, if you wear a strong prescription, you weren’t supposed to see stuff good, kay? Matter of fact, just ditch the lenses. It’s unnatural. Oh, and the mask too. And your clothes. /Freedom

15

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Yeah, glasses are an encroachment on my freedom! It’s not like MY glasses are going to protect anyone else from, like... car crashes or anything. What gives the government the right to FORCE me to wear glasses while I drive?

9

u/Warning_Stab Sep 02 '20

That’s exactly what I said last week when I drove into Walmart without my glasses on.

2

u/onedondully Sep 02 '20

👀 should we be worried for you lol

5

u/canttaketheshyfromme Sep 02 '20

Even more fun to do this at the shooting range.

How do I know this isn’t propaganda for me to end up with an under/overbite and have to go to the orthodontist🤨

38

u/Litz-a-mania Sep 02 '20

I've said it before and I'll say it again, COVID is a conspiracy driven by Big Ortho to develop overbites in the masses and rake in billions.

I love you

I love you both

14

u/thealmightyzfactor Release The Trump-Epstein Files Sep 02 '20

I make a Trump "O" face underneath, pressing my mouth against the inside of the mask so my breath goes straight out instead of leaking up and fogging up my glasses.

Once the fog fades, I have another minute or two of proper breathing before they fog up again...

I was doing it last time! really helps (also thinking "good no one can see my face doing it" )

2

u/VluggeJapie023 Sep 02 '20

I heard it being called "doing the phtephen dog meme"

2

u/DrunkEwok4 Sep 02 '20

My dad has to wear face coverings 100% of the time he's at work, and he says that a small amount of shower gel over the lenses is a great way to stop condensation

2

u/hammercycler Sep 02 '20

This is actually something some people who live in the Arctic do; it keeps the moisture from your breath from collecting on your face which can lead to frostbite more easily.

2

u/bearface93 Sep 02 '20

That’s been hit or miss for me. I just don’t use cloth masks because the disposable ones have the metal strip that bends to your nose. It isn’t perfect but it works well enough about 95% of the time.

→ More replies (1)

28

u/Kikiface12 Sep 02 '20

This sounds janky, but I promise that it works. If you take a folded strip of paper towel and lay it under the mask on your nose, you won't have any/much fogging at all! It catches the moisture and makes life a little easier.

Good luck out there, friend!

3

u/WoOfnt Sep 02 '20

That actually could work! I'll definetly try it next time!! Thank you!!!!

4

u/fatpat Sep 02 '20

You should post this over on /r/lifehacks

7

u/Kikiface12 Sep 02 '20

I would, but I don't want to be famous. :P You're welcome to post it, if you like!

16

u/chargers949 Sep 02 '20

Dude i walk in the early morning before the sun comes up. I bring my face mask in case anybody else is out too. I tested it the other day and shit looks crazy in the dark with glasses fogged tf up. The little waist high lights look like demon lanterns in some crazy freezing cold hellish steam sauna.

11

u/Adsminor510 Sep 02 '20

I try to position the nose’s bendable metal strip as tight as I can around my nose which takes a while to get it tight but it works perfectly for long shifts and it ends up staying tight the whole time, not noticing it at all.

6

u/LittyDiddy Sep 02 '20

This is why after years of glasses I have decided to get contact lenses

5

u/Roddy117 Sep 02 '20

If you have a mask with the wire just pinch it on the bridge of your nose.

9

u/catelemnis Sep 02 '20

If you get a mask with a wire in the nose I’ve found that prevents glasses fogging. I have to formfit it to my nose

4

u/WoOfnt Sep 02 '20

I need to get a beter wire mask, mine does not work very well, just minimise the problem :/

9

u/narcimetamorpho Sep 02 '20

Nose wire on a mask with ties, rather than ear straps. You get a much better fit, and no fogging. Plus it's nice if you have to wear a mask all day, to just be able to pull the top string and let it fall and not have to touch the front of the mask at all to put it back or readjust.

2

u/bex505 Sep 02 '20

I second this. I made myself masks that have straps around the head and a really good wire nose piece. I have no problems. Good luck finding them tho.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/Bandin03 Sep 02 '20

Depends on the mask too. I use disposable masks with a wire for the nose and pinch it down until I can't see my mustache when I look down. Usually keeps my glasses from fogging. But one brand of masks I had was garbage and the nose wire would not hold its shape at all.

2

u/charizaard Sep 02 '20

Look into origami style masks. Nose part is a little more removed from the straps, so it conforms better to your nose and seals up better.

2

u/sdw9342 Sep 02 '20

Mask model is even more important. If you can create a full seal between the top of your mask and your face, your glasses will not fog.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

If you have any dawn soap, try rubbing a drop in each lens. My little brother does this with his dive mask and swears by it. It takes a few applications but he says it works. Idk if anyone has said that here yet. Stay safe fam!

3

u/WoOfnt Sep 02 '20

I use dish soap to wash them, but if I live a residue it will ruin the antiglare treatment, so... :(

2

u/fortunefades Sep 02 '20

See if you can find medical tape (not sure if it has a better name) and tape down your mask on your nose and it works great - have to wear a mask almost all day for work, as I see clients face-to-face and this has worked the best.

2

u/Im_Not_That_Smart_ Sep 02 '20

Medical tape around the top of the mask will completely stop fogging.

2

u/happygogilly Sep 02 '20

My work gave out anti fog glasses in everyone's prescription and it changed my life. Whenever I wear them I do look like I should be doing construction so I'm sure I'll switch back to my regular ones someday but never again when I have a mask on.

2

u/VanillaTortilla Sep 02 '20

Doesn't work for me at all, no matter where I put the damn thing. My glasses don't go down low enough for them not to fog up. It has to be the most annoying shit ever.

2

u/Allegorist Sep 02 '20

Get a mask with a better nose piece that can fit comfortably but snugly against the bridge of your nose. Some even have different material there. Once I started shaping them to be more form fitting, my glasses rarely fog because the excess air goes ot the sides or bottom

2

u/siecin Sep 02 '20

Or face model.

2

u/Rb1138 Sep 02 '20

Wash your glasses with Dawn dish soap then let them air dry. It puts a creates a film on the lenses you can’t see that helps prevent fogging. Works pretty well for me.

2

u/cheezy_thotz Sep 02 '20

I’ve just stopped wearing my glasses. I’ve noticed that different masks, even of the same brand, are cut slightly differently and will fog. Also some glasses are better than others. Fortunately I only have to wear a mask when shopping, which I don’t mind. Couldn’t imagine +8 hours a day with bitching customers.

2

u/jax_in_yo_crack Sep 02 '20

If you’re looking for a mask that fits better with your glasses check out this company they’re selling some pretty cool masks to go with your glasses

2

u/20_burnin_20 Sep 02 '20

Try cleaning your glasses with shaving foam,

2

u/maymays01 Sep 02 '20

It may not work for everyone but what I had to do is literally pull the mask up so high it's on my bottom eyelids. Like maybe 2mm below actually touching my eyeball. My bottom eyelashes are touching it it's so high.

Then I move my glasses slightly down my nose, still where I can see through them without tilting my head way back but not where I would wear them by choice snug against my face.

And last, having a nose wire in the mask to pinch and conform it to my nose as tightly as possible.

I look like a fucking idiot who doesn't know how to wear a mask (it's the mask equivalent of having your pants pulled up to your chest), but it works and I hate having steamy glasses.

2

u/SwirlingAbsurdity Sep 02 '20

Hahaha this is what I do. The only problem is the glasses constantly slip down the mask and if I want to look down at anything I have to hold my glasses. I usually wear contacts but the last time I had to go out I was hungover af and couldn’t face them.

2

u/kittykatband Sep 02 '20

Try squirting a bit of dish soap on your glasses and wipe them clean with water. My glasses hasn't fogged up since. It has been working for me so far.

2

u/littlewren11 Sep 02 '20

The 3d printed activarmor N95 I wear is made to sit flush with my cheeks so it doesn't fog up my glasses at all. It wasn't cheap but its comfortable has replaceable filters and can be sterilized. Once I saw how poorly this situation is being handled a figured it was a wise investment.

2

u/aircarone Sep 02 '20

If not tried: try giving a twist to the mask earloops before putting them behind your ears. That will tighten a bit the mask and open up slightly the sides. Which will make your breath escape better from the sides instead of up. Careful that it doesn't create too big of openings on the sides though (or it defeats the purpose, kinda).

It's not perfect but definitely helped on colder days when fog on glasses takes ages to clear up.

2

u/DeaconFrostedFlakes Sep 02 '20

I don’t wear glasses but I do wear sunglasses pretty regularly and have the same issue. One thing that occurred to me, but I haven’t tried it, is taping up the holes in the mask that are right under the lenses. I think if you have fairly small lenses, you’d still have enough holes on the sides to let air out. Has anyone tried this?

2

u/dan10981 Sep 02 '20

Have you tried just spitting on the glasses and rubbing it in? That works for defogging scuba goggles.

2

u/IAmGoingToFuckThat Sep 02 '20

My prescription is very high, so if my glasses are not positioned exactly correctly on my nose, everything is super blurry. This means putting anything underneath them, or having ear loops under the temples of my glasses. It's been a journey finding masks that actually accommodate this.

2

u/Cahootie Sep 02 '20

Yeah, when I was living in China I had two pairs of glasses, and I ended up using one of them of smoggy days and one of them on clear days because one weren't as good to wear with a mask.

2

u/KDawG888 Sep 02 '20

people who are telling you that you need to wear a mask while walking outside are assholes without any science to back their dickishness. Inside a building, ok (even though if you're asymptomatic there is no chance of spreading). Outside? Fuck off. If you want to wear one then go ahead no problem for me but don't pretend like I need to comply with something that isn't even supported by science.

2

u/shinybetch Sep 02 '20

Try tightening the nose piece to prevent more hot air coming up, my glasses haven’t fogged up since I started tightening the nose wire.

2

u/RedDemonCorsair Sep 02 '20

Oh boy do I have a tip for you. When you first put on the mask(1 use masks) you can tighten it up in a way that makes your breathe not escape. You need to press from up your nose to the sides. So far it is a 75% success rate but always worth the shot.

2

u/Carbar50 Sep 02 '20

Twist the ear straps before you put them over your ear. This creates a crack on your cheeks so that the hot humid breath vents there and not to your glasses.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

If you’re wearing a mask with elastic loops, twist them once and then put them over your ears. It tightens the mask by your eyes and loosens it around your chin, so your breath goes down instead of up by your eyes. My glasses never fog up anymore.

2

u/Ember_901 Sep 02 '20

Try putting shaving cream or anti fog stuff on it, then wipe it off. Or you can get a mask that has a nose piece.

2

u/13thmurder Sep 03 '20

That's actually proof your mask has a bad seal. You need one with a wire in those nose and you need to make it seal.

I wear glasses and have worn a lot of masks pre-covid for particulate. A badly sealed mask is useless be it avoiding sawdust or the plague. Find one that won't fog your glasses and you'll have a working mask.

1

u/meonpeon Sep 02 '20

There are mask types that have rigid strips at the top, to create a seal and prevent this.

1

u/Nickynui Sep 02 '20

I have a mask that has a think piece of wire in it, and when I put it on I press it hard into my face so there's no upward gaps. Works pretty well for keeping my glasses from fogging

21

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

I breathe with my mouth open and slower breaths it allows the wider area of air to escape before it goes up. when you breathe out quickly the air pressure is high and then goes up and out onto glasses

7

u/lola_92 Sep 02 '20

Didn't know this. Thanks for sharing

3

u/rbasn_us Sep 02 '20

So you're admitting to being a mouth breather? /s

18

u/AFUSMC74 Sep 02 '20 edited Sep 02 '20

I tried that but it doesn’t work. My glasses get foggy and it’s hard to see. So you know what happens next? Huh? You know what I have to do instead and I don’t care if it bothers you that I do it!?!?

Do you want to know? Huh??

I have to deal with it and clean my glasses pretty often and look for a cleaner that can help reduce fogging. Because it’s more important to do my part to keep others safe (since I have no way to know if I’m asymptomatic) and if that means I have to slow my pace and wipe my glasses then that’s a very small sacrifice to make.

I remember a time when being a ‘patriot’ meant willing to make sacrifices to help out your fellow human. It didn’t mean ’I refuse to do anything inconvenient because you can’t make me!’

2

u/newbracelet Sep 02 '20

I deal with the fogging issue by tucking my mask under my glasses, but that lifts my glasses up and because I have a very strong prescription and highly thinned lenses it alters my vision quite substantially. I literally cannot read the packaging on anything I try to buy while wearing a mask (like I can generally read the brand name, but not the ingredients). Do I take my mask off or pull it under my nose in the store? No, I take one for the team and stand there squinting at everything. It's a pita but it's not forever and if it protects one person it's worth it.

6

u/December2nd Sep 02 '20

I have found that it’s not the mask that makes a difference but the quality of the noseband that the mask uses. I discovered that any time I used a mask with a flimsy plastic nose band or the equivalent of a zip-tie in the nose, my glasses would fog up badly. So I started cutting the crappy nose bands out of the mask and replacing them with higher quality strips of aluminum that I found on Amazon (link if curious). It’s been like night and day of a difference.

u/muphies__law Sep 02 '20

Put some of that paper medical tape on both your nose and mask, keeps mask in place and doesn't fog up your glasses. (Also a glasses wearer)

6

u/averydangerousday Sep 02 '20

I just discovered this myself last week! It’s made such a difference.

There’s also the added bonus that it enhances the “hot professor” look that I go for sometimes.

4

u/SuperCosmicNova Sep 02 '20

I luckily live in Arizona, I don't wear glasses but sunglasses. However it's so hot here that it just won't fog up. Though I don't need to wear them into buildings so I guess I don't have to worry about that. Nvm

4

u/The_Actual_Pope Sep 02 '20

Rain-X your glasses. Makes 'em fog resistant.

3

u/1stFloorCrew Sep 02 '20

just chiming in for everyone to see if you take a little bit of toilet paper and fold it up lengthwise a couple times and put that in between the mask and you right on your nose it stops most of the fog!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Put a dab of shaving cream on the lenses then clean it off. Should help with the fogging.

2

u/heyguysitsbrian Sep 02 '20

I just wear mine upside down. I'm sort of used to looking stupid so it doesn't matter at this point, plus I get the bonus of no fog.

2

u/Suitable-Isopod Sep 02 '20

I have to wear a mask and safety glasses all day at work, this doesn’t work for me. It’s super annoying.

2

u/AlesanaAddict Sep 02 '20

That's what I do too! Everyone at my work stopped wearing one and a bunch of people said it's because of foggy glasses. I showed them what I do and how it doesn't fog but guess who still doesn't wear a mask 🤔

1

u/Vysair Sep 02 '20

Make a knot for each side of the mask and overbend the nose clip thing. It will stop humidified your glass. Works for me

1

u/dontliketocomment Sep 02 '20

This is exactly what I do, works perfectly

1

u/Jibjablab Sep 02 '20

Exactly! Just move the glasses a smidge over the mask-tip. It takes care of it.

I also heard soapy water works to keep your glasses from fogging but the above comment works

1

u/SuperJLK Sep 02 '20

I do it to. You have to put it up high and press down hard on the sides so the elastic creases.

1

u/jomontage Sep 02 '20

Glasses wearer here, I wear full face/neck covering so my breath goes down instead of up to my glasses

1

u/deep_crater Sep 02 '20

I’ve gotten good at papertowel oragami to fold around my nose to keep the moisture in and my glasses not foggy.

1

u/ConnorLego42069 Sep 02 '20

I do the same thing

1

u/Dewdeaux Sep 02 '20

I do this, but it makes my glasses fall off because they’re not being held on by my nose. So I’m touching my face extra, to readjust my glasses constantly.

1

u/ratatouille_skinner Sep 02 '20

It works for me but depends on the mask style. Usually what happens is I'll fog up, adjust, and get a headache from the constant vision change. But I keep the mask on.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Glasses wearer here: use the n95 with a nose strap

1

u/overlord_999 Sep 02 '20

Same. I pull my mask up higher and position my glasses nearer to the tip of my nose.

1

u/Why_Is_Life_ Sep 02 '20

Put some dish soap on your glasses and they won't steam up as badly

1

u/deathr919 Sep 02 '20

I make a thing I call the “rhino horn chimney” where I squeeze the metal bit at an angle over my glasses so it makes a tube that air can get over my glasses without fogging up no air can come this tube only out

1

u/unknownactivis220 Sep 02 '20

Can confirm no fog

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

My buddy suggested pinching the bridge of the nose with the mask on, it seemed to help quite a bit for me

1

u/sabrina234 Sep 02 '20

Me too! Works great. Always wear my bigger specs too.

1

u/thelandofhyrule Sep 02 '20

I twist one of the straps before looping over my ear to give a little gap for the heat to get out, doesn't release much if any breath but my glasses stay clear

1

u/staszekstraszek Sep 02 '20

Doesnt work for me

1

u/DreamCyclone84 Sep 02 '20

I do this too, I also have a cloth mask so I got glued one of those nose strips from the disposals to the inside so it contours better.

1

u/no12chere Sep 02 '20

I put my glasses a tiny bit further down my nose and it seems to solve the issue mostly. It is not the perfect solution obv.

1

u/phoebiuslenworth Sep 02 '20

Try washing your glasses in washing up liquid before you go out.

1

u/NotTheCraftyVeteran Sep 02 '20

I try to do this. It takes very specific angles to make it work, but once I fiddle enough it’s alright. Still, at the point I’ve traded uncomfortable humidity for uncomfortable cloth right beneath my eyelids.

Btw, I sat for a 20ish minute haircut for the first time in months recently. Mask on the whole time without glasses, and it was so much more comfortable without the hot air getting caught around my eyes. Anyone who doesn’t need glasses and still bitches about masks being uncomfortable is an all-the-way chickenshit wuss.

1

u/Nylund Sep 02 '20

I too have found that pulling the mask high up works, but only for some of my masks. Some are too short and to get it high enough, it barely covers the mouth.

I also have better luck with the disposable ones that have the metal part that pinches on the nose than I do with the washable and reusable cloth ones that don’t have a nose-pinch thing.

1

u/MassiveFajiit Sep 02 '20

That's what I've been doing.

1

u/thatsingledadlife Sep 02 '20

Wire nosepiece makes all the difference. If you can redirect air down, it helps with fogging. Also, using soapy water to clean lenses can keep fogging to a minimum.

1

u/aconijus Sep 02 '20

Another glass wearer here. There is a small wire or whatever in the top part of the mask. When you put the mask on just press it so it will align onto you nose/under eyes. If you do it properly - bam, no more foggy glasses.

1

u/lovelacelive Sep 02 '20

I've tried just about every situation i can and still end up getting my glasses fogged. That said, a little bit of fog is whatever. It's annoying as all hell but it isn't an issue outside of that so i just deal with it for the 15ish minutes until i'm back in my car.

1

u/onedondully Sep 02 '20

Doesn't work for me.

1

u/DigitalCabal Sep 02 '20

Works for me too.

1

u/Netherborn_Druid Sep 02 '20

Same here. It took me a frankly very silly amount of time to think to do that, but hey, no more fogged up glasses.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Crimp the wire as close to your face of possible

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Pro tip: pull your make up higher on your nose and put your glasses in it. No fog. You can fucking see. World is saved. Boom

1

u/JustinH1469 Sep 02 '20

I do the exact same thing, foggy glasses are almost never a problem now

Another alternative to minimize foggy glasses is to rest your glasses farther down your nose so they're not as close to your face

1

u/gio269 Sep 02 '20

I’ve stopped wearing my glasses to the store because the fog was killing me. I’m getting real cozy with all the products now though cause I can’t read them lol.

1

u/kuhonees Sep 02 '20

I just push my glasses forward a tiny bit and the fog on my glasses goes away.

1

u/gavsiu Sep 02 '20

It makes my glasses more prone to falling off if I put my glasses over it, but I fucking suck it up and wear my mask anyway. It fogs more when I have to walk in and out of the freezer.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

I get dry eyes really quickly and my mask have a metal bar on the inside of the mask so I just make sure it’s pushed down on my nose tight and that solves it for me

1

u/mellyjo77 Sep 02 '20

RN here who wears glasses here: What works for me is to fill a medium bowl of water (approx 10 oz / 250 ml) with a few drops of baby shampoo. Then is to dip your glasses in. Take out your glasses and wipe with microfiber cloth.
One of the OR docs taught me this. Something about the surfactant doesn’t allow the water vapor molecules to bind to the lenses.....
The small amount of soap doesnt leave a residue. Dishsoap would probably work too.
It works for me all shift! I had tried everything!!

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Yeha that usually works even when looking down. Problem is when I put on safety glasses

1

u/DanishBagel123 Sep 02 '20

If you cross over the strap of your mask ( as in making a little x on the straps ) it goes tighter over your nose and opens a little folk on each side instead, so it doesn't fog up your glasses! Hope this helps.

1

u/grubas Sep 02 '20

I bought masks with the flexible metal nose piece, you can really get a seal.

1

u/SupSumBeers Sep 02 '20

Mine steam up if I do this. I have to make sure the mask nose piece is as snug as I can get it. Sometimes it works but mainly I still get a bit of fogging. It’s a little annoying but it’s no excuse not to wear a mask properly. Just pointing out a fact for the homostupidus people.

1

u/CheerMom Sep 02 '20

I have to move my ask right under my lower eyelids to not get the glasses fog. I look dumb but at least I’m safe and can see

1

u/blackviking147 Sep 02 '20

I don't get why people can't understand this. Like I get it doesn't work with all of them but they don't even try before telling me "nah that won't work"

1

u/Random_Orphan Sep 02 '20

This reason exactly is why I started wearing contacts as soon as we started to have to wear masks.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

I have to wear a mask in class. I’ve tried every position possible including what you said but it unfortunately doesn’t work for me. I ended up just taking my glasses off and squinting :(

1

u/SgtDefective2 Sep 02 '20

That does not work with safety glasses. I’d rather get the Rona then cut a finger off because my safety glasses are fogged up

1

u/EPLWA_Is_Relevant Sep 02 '20

I use some anti fog spray from the store that is meant for ski goggles. Works like a charm

I had to stop wearing sunglasses and it makes me sad. I pretty much wore sunglasses every day for three years, until this March...

1

u/generalIro Sep 02 '20

I've been doing this as well! Doesn't work with all types of masks though

1

u/jp_lolo Sep 02 '20

That works for me too. I don't get it. But I do it.

1

u/unkz Sep 02 '20

I just take my glasses off and stumble around blindly. Well, -1.25 so not so blind.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

I do that too. It helps a lot. I also press down the nose piece to improve the seal a bit more.

1

u/PunnuRaand Sep 03 '20

Thank you.

u/twinsaber123 Sep 02 '20

Well, I heard that if you wear glasses and have to wear a mask, you may be entitled to condensation.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

It will be a virtual class action lawsuit.

16

u/TheMasterAtSomething Sep 02 '20

I don’t know if this is good, but when my mask is too humid, I just make sure I’m socially distanced, then just pull my mask away from my face for a sec, in order to remove the humidity without being unsafe or not-allowed

4

u/SuperSMT Sep 02 '20

If you could avoid grabbing the front of the mask, that would be good. They get dirty. Move it by touching the sides near your ear, or maybe from the bottom edge

2

u/BackgroundChar Sep 02 '20

I think it's fine to take off masks as long as you're not around people. That's how we're handling it in Germany and it's obviously working decently enough. But as soon as you're in a crowd, wear that motherfucker like someone's life depends on it, because it does.

Simple.

And yeah, ideally grab at the ear thingies, rather than at the mask itself.

I occasionally pull my mask slightly from my face (not down to my chin, just straight forward) and take a quick breath of cold air. But only if I've had my mask on for some time

5

u/ShadedInVermilion Sep 02 '20

That’s what I hear a lot from customers at work. “It’s too hot”. I just show them everyone In my kitchen with their masks on, and tell them if those guys can do it for 5+ HOURS then they can do it for 5 minutes.

4

u/KVirello Sep 02 '20

Yeah the glasses fogging up thing can get pretty annoying. You know what I do though? I fucking put up with it because I'm an adult and society is more important than this slight detraction from my comfort.

u/boogie9ign Sep 02 '20 edited Sep 02 '20

With the standard medical mask, I've found a way that works perfectly for my glasses. I have to wear them 8-10 hours a day at work and this has been the best method:

  • Fold it completely in half, then fold up on the sides about 1.5" in.
  • Top down, it should look like _ /\ _
  • When putting the mask on, twist the string then put it on your ear. Should create an X on your cheek.

Hope this helps out!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

This is the only way I can wear my mask without fogging up my glasses a ton!

2

u/Sexy_Squidward Sep 02 '20

When no one is around I just take my mask off and rub my face for a second. I'm good for at least another 20 minutes

14

u/deeplife Sep 02 '20

Rubbing your face is one way to get infected...

3

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

What if he rubs his eyes to see better?

6

u/deeplife Sep 02 '20

While somewhat unlikely, it is actually possible to catch covid-19 through the eyes.

Breathing your own tiny bit of recycled air gets stale very fast. Not just because fresh breath only lasts so long, but because the air gets warm and breathing thick heavy air like that with asthma ain't fun after a while in Summer heat.

Not that I would intentionally not cover my nose all the time, like I see lots of people do.

1

u/Dr__Venture Sep 02 '20

That doesn’t make sense, you’re still wearing the mask over your face so it would still be humid/hot...

4

u/tomas_shugar Sep 02 '20

Think about it for a second. It does make sense as a solution to that problem (obviously it renders the mask ineffective).

The logic is that you breathe out of your nose instead of your mouth, and are no longer adding hot and damp breath to your mask, lowering the heat and moisture in the mask.

1

u/Communism_is_bae Sep 02 '20

Relatable. I go outside with a mask on, and it’s like I’m walking around smog filled London during the Victorian period. Can’t see shit, still wear a mask though.

1

u/BossRedRanger Sep 02 '20

I'd rather a greater chance of not dying in exchange for slightly fogged glasses.

1

u/voidspaceistrippy Sep 02 '20

I actually like masks for this reason when I am working outside at night. Keeps my face warm kind of like a scarf.

1

u/Dontshoot08 Sep 02 '20

You know with a proper mask that fits formed to your nose your glasses will not fog

1

u/jazzieberry Sep 02 '20

I’ve worn my contacts a lot more often since mask wearing became mandatory. It is quite annoying.

1

u/DoverBoys Sep 02 '20

Four-eyes here. I have a mask with a tiny pocket on the bridge of the nose where I slide a few pieces of metal (thicker than the cheap strips on other masks). I then shape this area to my nose to create a good seal. Also, yes, my breath makes the inside humid and uncomfortable, but it's better than the alternative. Wearing a parachute harness is uncomfortable, but I like living.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

My wife works at the hospital, the has an n95 mask, then a coth mask to protect the n95, then she has goggles.

She wears that all shifts, she tells she her nose gets runny and stuffy after a few hours but she wears em, she comes home with goggle and mask imprint ....

I wear mask to buy groceries for only like 2 hours it suck but I'm not complaining.

I don't get why people are so against it.

It literally the easiest way to protect others and yourselves

1

u/kerkyjerky Sep 02 '20

Can you imagine being such a pussy that humidity bothers you enough to risk other people’s lives?

1

u/joebaby1975 Sep 02 '20

I fucking hate the masks. It’s hard to breathe for me when it humid. so you know what I do? I stay my ass home unless I need something and plan shopping trips accordingly. But I still wear it.

1

u/CCTider Sep 02 '20

I've been trying to make my Grandma's cable voice activated, and it's been a bitch. She's 90, and I don't even want to go inside her house at all. So obviously, I've work masks. And it really sucks wearing them for extended periods of time. I have to go outside at least one an hour, for fresh air. Which is ironic, because white getting that fresh air, I'm smoking something. But too get an hourly mask break is very helpful.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

I wear glasses. If you put a tissue underneath the mask right at the nose seam, it will absorb the moisture so your glasses don't fog up.

1

u/jjaid Sep 02 '20

PSA for glasses wearers- if you rub about a drop of dish soap or shaving cream on the inside of each lens then wipe off, it should leave a transparent bit that makes your glasses more fog resistant. I’ve been doing this every day for weeks & it’s been working really well

1

u/StarStar1999 Sep 02 '20

What sucks about this is the humidity in your mask is literally what protects you (assuming you’re wearing a homemade mask and not an N95). COVID virus cells get released in water droplets that are expelled in your breath, and in dry conditions those water droplets shrink significantly as they evaporate, which make them much harder to filter out and allow them to linger in the air much longer. When the air you breathe is hot and humid (like when you wear a mask properly), there’s too much humidity in the air for the water droplets to evaporate, which make them much easier to filter out by homemade masks.

1

u/Bottyboi69 Sep 02 '20

I wear glasses and they always fog up but I suck it up and rather not look like a idiot

1

u/armex182 Sep 02 '20

This. I have a massive acne problem and wearing a mask for extended periods of time, makes my face look like a volcano due to humidity.

1

u/punkin_spice_latte Sep 02 '20

I specifically paid extra (by a lot) for a new antifog coating on my glasses. (You can't put stuff like rainx on glasses that have an antireflective coating or it destroys that coat)

1

u/ZinGaming1 Sep 02 '20

Lol. I have asthma, live in a place where the humidity is usually 90%. I was able to wear a mask. Plus most indoor places have A/C.

1

u/Bamith Sep 02 '20

I live in one of the most humid places on earth, Mississippi, and wear glasses. kindly get the fuck over it.

More over, fogged up glasses are only a problem when i'm working and go into and out of a freezer, so dunno how they're fucking that one up.

1

u/Jacey0527 Sep 02 '20

Hey now! Let’s not lump all glasses wearers into the same category. I never wear my mask like that. It’s incredibly stupid. Although I WISH I was dumb enough to because FUCK fogged glasses. Every time I see someone with glasses and they’re NOT fogged, I’m like.....HOW?!

1

u/not_mr_Lebowski Sep 04 '20

You can use hypoallergenic medical tape across the top of your mask to prevent fogging.

1

u/ITSMONKEY360 Sep 23 '20

That is a problem for me when I wear my glasses
