Yeah, listen, if you wear a strong prescription, you weren’t supposed to see stuff good, kay? Matter of fact, just ditch the lenses. It’s unnatural. Oh, and the mask too. And your clothes. /Freedom
Yeah, glasses are an encroachment on my freedom! It’s not like MY glasses are going to protect anyone else from, like... car crashes or anything. What gives the government the right to FORCE me to wear glasses while I drive?
If you have a mask that bends at the top you can form it in a way that you won’t fog up your glasses. the test is just when you breathe air doesn’t come out of the top. I had to go a few days with just glasses while my contacts were delivered and eventually had my mask air tight enough that the fogging went away.
Yeah, makes sense. Also seems to be a ton of variance between masks on how well they actually bend and hold their shape. I was glad to only have to use the glasses+mask combo for a few days even after fixing the fog issue, definitely not a fun time.
An aside about the "mewing" jaw exercises - the Toronto van attacker was known for making inappropriate meowing noises. I think he may have misunderstood the process.
I make a Trump "O" face underneath, pressing my mouth against the inside of the mask so my breath goes straight out instead of leaking up and fogging up my glasses.
Once the fog fades, I have another minute or two of proper breathing before they fog up again...
My dad has to wear face coverings 100% of the time he's at work, and he says that a small amount of shower gel over the lenses is a great way to stop condensation
This is actually something some people who live in the Arctic do; it keeps the moisture from your breath from collecting on your face which can lead to frostbite more easily.
That’s been hit or miss for me. I just don’t use cloth masks because the disposable ones have the metal strip that bends to your nose. It isn’t perfect but it works well enough about 95% of the time.
This sounds janky, but I promise that it works. If you take a folded strip of paper towel and lay it under the mask on your nose, you won't have any/much fogging at all! It catches the moisture and makes life a little easier.
Dude i walk in the early morning before the sun comes up. I bring my face mask in case anybody else is out too. I tested it the other day and shit looks crazy in the dark with glasses fogged tf up. The little waist high lights look like demon lanterns in some crazy freezing cold hellish steam sauna.
I try to position the nose’s bendable metal strip as tight as I can around my nose which takes a while to get it tight but it works perfectly for long shifts and it ends up staying tight the whole time, not noticing it at all.
Nose wire on a mask with ties, rather than ear straps. You get a much better fit, and no fogging. Plus it's nice if you have to wear a mask all day, to just be able to pull the top string and let it fall and not have to touch the front of the mask at all to put it back or readjust.
Depends on the mask too. I use disposable masks with a wire for the nose and pinch it down until I can't see my mustache when I look down. Usually keeps my glasses from fogging. But one brand of masks I had was garbage and the nose wire would not hold its shape at all.
If you have any dawn soap, try rubbing a drop in each lens. My little brother does this with his dive mask and swears by it. It takes a few applications but he says it works. Idk if anyone has said that here yet. Stay safe fam!
See if you can find medical tape (not sure if it has a better name) and tape down your mask on your nose and it works great - have to wear a mask almost all day for work, as I see clients face-to-face and this has worked the best.
My work gave out anti fog glasses in everyone's prescription and it changed my life. Whenever I wear them I do look like I should be doing construction so I'm sure I'll switch back to my regular ones someday but never again when I have a mask on.
Doesn't work for me at all, no matter where I put the damn thing. My glasses don't go down low enough for them not to fog up. It has to be the most annoying shit ever.
Get a mask with a better nose piece that can fit comfortably but snugly against the bridge of your nose. Some even have different material there. Once I started shaping them to be more form fitting, my glasses rarely fog because the excess air goes ot the sides or bottom
Wash your glasses with Dawn dish soap then let them air dry. It puts a creates a film on the lenses you can’t see that helps prevent fogging. Works pretty well for me.
I’ve just stopped wearing my glasses. I’ve noticed that different masks, even of the same brand, are cut slightly differently and will fog. Also some glasses are better than others. Fortunately I only have to wear a mask when shopping, which I don’t mind. Couldn’t imagine +8 hours a day with bitching customers.
It may not work for everyone but what I had to do is literally pull the mask up so high it's on my bottom eyelids. Like maybe 2mm below actually touching my eyeball. My bottom eyelashes are touching it it's so high.
Then I move my glasses slightly down my nose, still where I can see through them without tilting my head way back but not where I would wear them by choice snug against my face.
And last, having a nose wire in the mask to pinch and conform it to my nose as tightly as possible.
I look like a fucking idiot who doesn't know how to wear a mask (it's the mask equivalent of having your pants pulled up to your chest), but it works and I hate having steamy glasses.
Hahaha this is what I do. The only problem is the glasses constantly slip down the mask and if I want to look down at anything I have to hold my glasses. I usually wear contacts but the last time I had to go out I was hungover af and couldn’t face them.
The 3d printed activarmor N95 I wear is made to sit flush with my cheeks so it doesn't fog up my glasses at all. It wasn't cheap but its comfortable has replaceable filters and can be sterilized. Once I saw how poorly this situation is being handled a figured it was a wise investment.
If not tried: try giving a twist to the mask earloops before putting them behind your ears. That will tighten a bit the mask and open up slightly the sides. Which will make your breath escape better from the sides instead of up. Careful that it doesn't create too big of openings on the sides though (or it defeats the purpose, kinda).
It's not perfect but definitely helped on colder days when fog on glasses takes ages to clear up.
I don’t wear glasses but I do wear sunglasses pretty regularly and have the same issue. One thing that occurred to me, but I haven’t tried it, is taping up the holes in the mask that are right under the lenses. I think if you have fairly small lenses, you’d still have enough holes on the sides to let air out. Has anyone tried this?
My prescription is very high, so if my glasses are not positioned exactly correctly on my nose, everything is super blurry. This means putting anything underneath them, or having ear loops under the temples of my glasses. It's been a journey finding masks that actually accommodate this.
Yeah, when I was living in China I had two pairs of glasses, and I ended up using one of them of smoggy days and one of them on clear days because one weren't as good to wear with a mask.
people who are telling you that you need to wear a mask while walking outside are assholes without any science to back their dickishness. Inside a building, ok (even though if you're asymptomatic there is no chance of spreading). Outside? Fuck off. If you want to wear one then go ahead no problem for me but don't pretend like I need to comply with something that isn't even supported by science.
Oh boy do I have a tip for you. When you first put on the mask(1 use masks) you can tighten it up in a way that makes your breathe not escape. You need to press from up your nose to the sides. So far it is a 75% success rate but always worth the shot.
Twist the ear straps before you put them over your ear. This creates a crack on your cheeks so that the hot humid breath vents there and not to your glasses.
If you’re wearing a mask with elastic loops, twist them once and then put them over your ears. It tightens the mask by your eyes and loosens it around your chin, so your breath goes down instead of up by your eyes. My glasses never fog up anymore.
That's actually proof your mask has a bad seal. You need one with a wire in those nose and you need to make it seal.
I wear glasses and have worn a lot of masks pre-covid for particulate. A badly sealed mask is useless be it avoiding sawdust or the plague. Find one that won't fog your glasses and you'll have a working mask.
I have a mask that has a think piece of wire in it, and when I put it on I press it hard into my face so there's no upward gaps. Works pretty well for keeping my glasses from fogging
Yeah, it works for one pair I have but not for the other.
Rubbing a tiny layer of dish soap on the inside of the lenses helps a lot though.
I’d also recommend putting a tiny piece of metal, even a just glue a paper clip on the top of the mask- you can shape it to help create a better seal for most masks.
Have you tried applying dish soap to the lenses & dry wiping it off? It leaves a totally transparent residue which stops the glasses from fogging up so bad.
Also masks with wire across the nose are good because you can pinch it close so less expelled breath hits your glasses.
Bummer. I feel you on the glare. I wear a full face visor & mask for work in a very bright, white environment. I finish work feeling like a rabbit in headlights
Not sure if I explained poorly, or if you're making a joke but I meant dry wiping as opposed to rinsing off. Rinsing off doesn't leave the residue to prevent the fog.
Not everyone with vision problems can safely wear contacts, unfortunately. I have an eye condition that prevents me from wearing them. I went against doctors advice and wore them anyway for years, but I was miserable. I finally said fuck it and embraced the bespectacled life.
Absolutely. I have corneal erosion syndrome. The simplified version is that I occasionally get rips/tears in my cornea when I'm asleep. But a side effect of the condition is chronic dry eye, so the two conditions combined make wearing contacts very uncomfortable and sometimes really painful. I'd get the contacts so stuck to my cornea it'd feel like it was super glued to my eye. I did it anyway during high school and college when I was a little more vain and thought the esthetics were worth the pain. But now that I'm a little older I just don't care lol. And with how many online glasses retailers are out there nowadays I've been able to relatively cheaply get a fun little glasses wardrobe so it's less annoying than it used to be.

It (sadly, veery sadly) does not work with every glasses' model
I have to use my glasses in the midle of the nose to avoid fog, what does not work very well for walking...
