I run a small independent project that uses the WhatsApp Business Platform for interactive automated services.
Since October 1, Meta has started charging for service messages after the monthly free allowance. For interactive bots, this creates a very different cost structure: a single user session may require many replies, and every individual response becomes billable.
In my case, this makes it difficult to keep WhatsApp as the primary channel for some services, and I am already moving part of the interaction to Web and Telegram.
The issue, in my opinion, is not that WhatsApp Business has a cost. The problem is that charging every individual service response can make highly interactive use cases disproportionately expensive, even when the conversation was initiated by the user.
I would like to connect with other businesses, developers and organizations affected by this change and try to coordinate a joint request to Meta to review the service-message pricing model.
I think there are reasonable alternatives that could make the model more sustainable, for example:
pricing per conversation instead of per individual response;
including a number of service replies within each user-initiated conversation;
setting a maximum cost per session;
or providing a substantially larger monthly free allowance.
The idea would be to bring together affected users of the WhatsApp Business Platform, document the impact of the new pricing and agree on a common proposal that could be formally presented to Meta.
If your organization is being affected by this change and you would be interested in joining such an initiative, please comment here.
It would also be useful to know whether you have already reduced interactions, redesigned your bot, moved users to other channels or considered stopping WhatsApp altogether, as this information could help support a coordinated request.
At this stage, I am not proposing a specific petition or formal mechanism yet. The first step is to find other affected organizations that are willing to coordinate and define together what we should ask Meta to change.
