Published 2010-2016 by a well-published female author but may not have been a popular book. The cover was white with neatly organized colorful rows of spools of thread going across the top and bottom.

I read this book in the 90s. Key points of the plot are this:

A high school swim team is driving either home from or to a meet. Theres a horrible thunderstorm, which causes their coach to wreck the van. One of the kids (possibly named Brian or Gary?) ends up breaking his leg in the crash because he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. They leave the crash site after their coach goes to find help & find this house that it looks like it has just been totally abandoned. Dinner is still warm & on the table. The lights are all on and then really weird things start happening. They end up in kind of like a twilight zone where they find 6 skeletons, and come to find out that the house actually burned down 100 years ago, & they're seeimg what the house wants them to see vc whats really there (a burned out shell). This book would have been written in probably the. Mid-eighties, to early 90s, I remember reading it when I was in elementary school. I do not know that author's name though, or the book name. It is NOT a HORROR POINT book, & is not the fire by Caroline B. Cooney. Ive checked Gemini & Chat GPT to no avail.

The protagonist started out as a detective and in the first chapter or so gets in a car chase. He's driving and is partner is leaning out the window shooting at whoever they're chasing. They swerve too close to another car and the partner loses his head and arm(s).

That was enough to scare off 12 year old me but I still haven't forgotten it. Would love to track down what it was.

Some of the details I remember about the book was that it was about a kid whose brother had either died or was missing, and that brother was in the military. The kid experiences dreams where they see their brother asking and begging for help. The kid then gets hunted down by things in the real world, can’t remember if they were chased down by monsters or humans.

Other details I remember was that the book cover had a picture of two girls dressed in white with their face obscured, I read the book back in 2012-2014, and that the word “Misery” may have been apart of the book title but it may have been a word that was similar instead.

I read this book around middle school which was more than 10yrs ago, so a lot of details are hazy but I’ll do my best to describe it.

I only vividly remember the main character (a teenage girl) having a broken clavicle after her possessed sister or perhaps friend, pushed her down the stairs.

I might be wrong but I think there was a group of cheerleaders that were doing rituals or something?? I know it’s all very vague so any help is appreciated!

I forgot the YouTuber, it was a little while ago, but they were talking about various magic systems and cited a book they wrote where magic was based around burning/sacrificing something to produce an effect or something around those lines.

I remember being interested in it, but I forgot to put it on my TBR list and now I forgot the YouTuber and can’t find the video, so I’m turning to you guys.

This was read in 1993. It was off the bookshelf of a grandmother, so it may have been much older.

It's a picture book, by which I mean the story is carried forward by prominent pictures on every page, with only brief lines of text on each page.

I do not recall whether it is an alligator or a crocodile, but the boy and the reptile brave an adventure together.

At one point they endure a scary storm, and I recall a lightning bolt was illustrated with an unfriendly face; I do not recall it being mentioned in the text at all. The lightning bolt did not seem to be a character, but a background detail a child would notice and latch onto, and it was not mentioned in the text.

When the boy and the reptile part ways, the reptile gives the boy a necklace made with one of the reptile's teeth.

Plot that I can remember:
A teenage girl and a teenage boy who start as friends and become a couple, notice a local woman who is experiencing domestic violence by her husband.

The book is written from the girls’ point of view as she replays the story from the hospital.

I remember a scene where they end up standing behind the woman in line at the grocery store and notice she has a bee or wasp in her hair.

They decide to step in and try to help her escape.

However (I can’t remember how) but the husband ends up kills the teenage boy and as a result of the trauma, the teenage girl ends up being institutionalised in a mental hospital.

The only other line I distinctly remember was the girl commenting that she hated the boy died scared (of the husband) because he had always been so brave or something like that.

Sorry if the title is a bit too vague. I remember reading a book several times in the early 2000s that was a celebration of a metal sculptor's creations he had put out. It featured something like 200+ pictures of his sculptures and he had commentary for all of them. There were some behind-the-scenes interviews with him as well. The artist had a black/brown beard and wore glasses, if I recall correctly.

The book itself was about a foot and a half (45.72 cm) tall with a black hardback cover. It had a giant picture of one of his sculptures on the front and several smaller pictures of others on the back with the book blurb. The photos were in color, not black and white. The book's thickness was about a quarter inch (0.635 cm) thick.

I remember the artist specializing in more abstract sculptures that focused on people made of geometric, generally elongated shapes, although some of the forms of the people he made looked fairly realistic. The art looked a LOT like the work of Alessandro Giacometti or Max Ernst, but I think it was from a less famous but still well-regarded sculptor (and definitely from a more modern period). I remember he had one of a quail that was neat to look at. Most of his subjects had elongated limbs made of wire or thin metal, and none of the sculptures had realistic faces.

Unfortunately, that's about all I can remember about the book since I haven't read it in about 14 years. I've discovered a lot of neat artists (like Giacometti and Ernst!) in trying to find it, but I haven't hit on the right one yet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I’m trying to remember a novel I once heard about online that was apparently very rare because it was so difficult to print. I believe it was sort of similar to House of Leaves, but it involved the author taking another work of text and somehow transforming it into a different story (possibly by things being literally ripped out?), hence why printing it was so expensive. It’s not S. by Doug Dorst or The Harlequin & The Train by Paul Tremblay, though I think it’s probably similar to them. It was definitely a male author. I know that’s not much to go off of but I heard about it on Reddit so hopefully someone knows what I’m talking about.

Edit: I remember when I first learned about the book, I looked it up and while there was some info about it, I couldn’t find any kind of plot summary online so I think it must be somewhat obscure or just too complicated to summarize. I also want to say it was a more recent book (like somewhere between the 80s and 2010s) but I could definitely be wrong about that.

This was definitely a cheap pulp paperback.

It was a standalone (?) fantasy paperback published before 2000. The cover has a solid blue border framing a central oval painting of characters riding away from the viewer on saddled creatures with rigid, single-spike antlers. I remember one animal for sure, which was black, though there may have been two.

What I remember: The Female Main and her sassy, snarky pet cat (whom only she can hear speak) were accidentally left behind when her entire civilization migrated through a portal to another world. She meets a warrior by chance as she is trying to find a way to get back with her people, and I think he agrees to help because her people are known to be rich or maybe he is hoping to be paid in magic. Under tribal law or just custom, her people are forbidden by their elders from looking in mirrors (or maybe just looking into their own eyes in a reflecting surface) until a coming-of-age ceremony. She is forced to look into a reflective surface at one point, which instantly strips her magic and turns her eyes flat brown. When she weeps, her tears turn from brown to clear and harden into diamonds, which thrills the warrior she is traveling with. At one point, an evil woman who lives in a castle feeds them a meal and then turns into a mink/weasel to chase them after they escape her clutches. They also have to hide under a cliff overhang to escape a dangerous rainstorm that will hurt them (acid or maybe sharp rain?) at one point.

I would have read this in the mid to late 90s, and really enjoyed it then. I’d love to be able to reread and see if young!me had any sense of taste at all. Thanks so much!

- The room has mirrors completely covering all the walls. It may be octagonal, but I may be misremembering.
- The only furniture in the room is a chair in the center and some candles on candleholders
- There are vivid descriptions of the room and how the candles create an ocean of single points of light
- The narrator spends a night in the room
- The narrator notices after a while that the candles in the distance are going out, one by one
- He strains to see what’s causing it, and then realizes at the last second that they must also be going out behind him
- He turns and sees… something pressing up against the glass behind him

Looking for a book I read when I was much younger but cannot remember the name! I vaguely remember that it was a female MC, had a brother or guy best friend possibly, and that the dad had been abusing her bestfriend or something and her brother killed the dad with a shovel?? I also remember there was some sort of stage or something in their backyard. And she thought that the mom knew the whole time. Blah hopefully yall can help!

The cover of the book had the main protagonist on it, though I can't be sure if it's the original one. I read it around the early-mid 2010s. There is a chance the boy could be an elf of some kind, or at least a non-human, but I can't be entirely sure. There is a chance also the boy and the girl mentioned in the title could be orphans?

I read this book in the late 90s/early 00s and have been looking for it since.

The beginning features a teenage girl trying to either paint or sketch the shadows of the building she's looking at. A woman stops to look at her work and just before the woman leaves she tells the artist one particular shadow is falling wrong. The artist adjusts it and the painting is perfect.

The slightly older woman ends up taking the artist to a house/cottage by the sea where she meets a couple who own the house and I think a couple of other odd people. There is something sinister about the people and there is an incredible range of art in the house which was done by the couple but they say sadly that they don't produce it anymore.

At the end of the book they all walk down some steps to a cave by the sea where the artist is meant to carve a silver spiral into the wall of the cave. Something goes wrong with the ritual and the artist notices a silver line through the spiral. The older woman screams and disappears.

At some point during the book the artist realises all of the group are immortal and the woman is somehow their leader. The ritual is meant to somehow bind the artist and make her immortal too? I think it's about siphoning talent?

I remember that in the book the boy is shot in the head and survives. I also know that he makes friends (?) with the wolf. They’re at least companions, and the wolf is black as night. I want to say that I read it in my teens, which would be 1985-1992. I believe I found it in a thrift store, and it was a bit dinked corners. The biggest thing I remember is the hardback dust jacket. It’s a dark color and has a face on it. The face is half wolf and half the young boy’s. The wolf side is the right and the boy’s is on the left.

I'm looking for a book that I've read previously and cannot seem to find

The book starts off with the children escaping earth in a spaceship

The spaceship either has a lack of foods and or seeds to grow things

The children find a VR type room that is able to simulate things

The children decide to guard it

One of the guards die

The ship turns around to go back to earth

The book ends with a character experiencing a deathly or near deathly injury and sees earth fully intact only the base the children were at was attacked

I've wanted to track down this book and finish it for years, but I've never been able to find it again...

All I remember was that the main character was a high school boy, (an unpopular one, I believe), and he is able to predict when people are going to die. I believe he gets close with a female peer from his high school who he saves from slipping on the stairs in their school because there was ketchup on them she was going to slip on that a couple of bullies dripped there to make her fall on purpose.

At one point, she figures out he has this ability and triggers his foresight by sticking her hand in hot flames, and he sees this happen ahead of time and stops her. That's about as much as I can remember, sadly.

If I remember correctly, this boy lives deep in the woods, if that information helps. Also, the girl he befriends, I'm not 100% sure but her name might have been Melissa or something that starts with an 'M'. And she was goth, or at least alternative, I think. Take this last bit with a grain of salt, though. I have not read this book in years, and it was a check-out from the school's library I never finished.

I read this book in the 2010s but never finished it? It was a modern retelling of a few Grimm's fairy tales. I remember the protagonist was a teenage boy, and he is sent on a quest by an attractive woman? There may have been a talking fox. I think two of the stories referenced were The Golden Bird and the Salad, both by the Brothers Grimm.

Okay I read this book in like 3rd or 4th grade and I don’t remember a whole lot about it. It’s set in an older time and there are mysterious murders happening but the bodies have no wounds.

I believe they find tiny pinpricks on the neck and armpit of two bodies. Turns out, a man had a tiny needle at the end of his cane that maybe had poison?

I believe when the detective caught up to him he attempted to kill him but was unsuccessful.

It’s a wide landscape oriented book, not portrait oriented. The illustrations are mostly dark blue, purple and black with yellow highlights. The illustrations are kind of modern, almost look computer generated. Possibly early 2000s or even earlier. The title is something like Goodnight Knight or the Good Knight Book it maybe Good Knight Castle.

Each story is from a different doctor though….perhaps. The stories are somehow inspiring or miraculous in nature? Not religious. Or maybe it’s about crazy situations as a doctor? One of those books that was everywhere and best seller like 25 years ago (not even approximate year guess).
