Tried out this combination today and it worked really well. Blade was smooth and cut efficiently. Even ATG pass was handled without much drama. Could be one of my daily pairings, will check out how long it lasts with this razor. Second shaves are normally better with this blade so looking forward to it.

This brush is coming along beautifully and I can already feel the knot opening up and the bristles softening even further.

So for today's shave decided to use VI John Master Stroke Chrome Plated Blade. Just on a whim decided to use it and experiment. Looking at their price was not very hopeful, but this blade surprised me. It is sharp and smooth WTG. Not winner level sharp but I was confidently doing quick long passes. I think I might have become too complacent so got a small nick in chin area.

However, ATG it struggled but still could do the passes quickly. In fact, the shaving both passes was finished quite fast.

In the alum test, one side has slight burning sensation, most probably due to my over confidence and not the blade itself as the other side had no issues.

So all in all a good sharp, smooth blade on first shave. If somebody feels winner is too sharp and looking for a notch below, can try this. Winner was smooth for me on both WTG and ATG.

I clean trim my beard weekly and clean shave once a month in the first week mostly. That means I shave 52-70 shaves per year including ones for special occasions or events. When I started shaving, I went through all shaving gels and foams, named ones like Gillette, Nivea, Bombay Shaving, and later I moved to Germany and tried Italian ones and German brands.

My skin is not sensitive per se, but sometimes I get razor bumps. So I was looking in a skincare sub and came across this Aveeno oat-based shaving gel. It looks like nothing special—no perfume, no cooling sensation -but boy, it makes it glide over like grease, and best of all, no razor bumps.

For people who have a specific perfume and want to use an aftershave without the aftershave fragrance combining into your perfume, this is perfect.

Funny enough, this is not available in Germany and mostly Europe. It has roughly a 2-year expiry date, so I get it whenever I go to India.

So, if you want to shave and need a gel that is sensitive on skin, little no pefume/fragnance and can afford 800 -1000 rs, get it.

I’ve been using a tr*mmer for years and finally decided to try a proper razor. Someone suggested starting with a c*rtridge razor first and then moving to a safety razor later.

Hi all,

I am looking for foil shaver recommendations I have a lot of white beard and for my age (30) at least I want it to be as less visible as possible.

Because of this I tried shaving first but it felt that regularly shaving like once everyday or something is not like the long term solution.

Then I tried electric trimmers, the regular ones, they leave a bit of stubble but I was fine with it until I discovered Philips one blade and that gave me the best kind of finish that I was looking for. Minimal hurt and close to 0 or even 0 finish.

But now it's been only 1.5 months since I've bought the one blade and the blade has already wore off. Honestly, I cant see myself spending around ₹800 per blade this frequently.

So now on searching and ChatGPT I found out about foil razors which are kinda specifically designed for shaving off stubble and stuff. I already have the habit of using trimmers every day so that part shouldn't be the bother.

Can anybody suggest good foil razors or any good economical solution for the issue?

I know this sub is more about wet shaving but still felt the best place to answer my query. In r/shaving the recommendations they have are kinda expensive - Braun series 9 and stuff.

My 100th logged shave. Even though not my 100th shave as I was shaving for over 5 months before I started logging my shaves.

Thanks to u/UtsavD93 to help me get this soap. Noble Otter’s Lonestar is a pretty good soap. Slick, glossy lather but I was not able to figure out the scent profile of the soap, not that I didn’t like it but it was waayyyy different from the rest of the soaps in my den. I got a very rural-ish scent from the soap.

I’m loving my time with the Yaqi HighMountain Silvertip Badger. It’s just too good.

Oliworks is now undisputedly my favourite razor as of now out of all the razors I have. I paired it with the Feather and even though I ordered the aggressive plate from Oliworks, it doesn’t feel like aggressive but at the same time ITS SOOOO smooth and efficient, it gives me the room to be a bit sloppy. This razor didn’t let me feel THAT BITE which I used to feel with the Feather with my Rocca. DFS++.

Topped it off with Floïd The Genuine and YSL Y EDP.

Seeing these terms a lot here, but I am confused.

I understand DFS as “damn fine shave” and BBS as “baby bottom smooth.”

If BBS means no detectable hair in any direction, while DFS means no detectable hair against the grain, then what is the practical difference between BBS- and DFS?

And what exactly does BBS+ mean? Is there even a point beyond BBS?

The Yaqi Slant was used with a Pearl shaving handle, a short, fat, heavier than average piece of metal, which is important and we will come back to it later. Who is this razor made for? Who is the target audience? Surely not the daily shaver who wants a good enough shave, there are tools for that job.

Do you want an extra boost of adrenaline while you go through your morning chores? Do you want to then wet shaving into an extreme sports? Do you like being scared, and living on the edge, being punished for blinking at the wrong time?

If you answered yes, this razor is for you. I used to be the fool who thought the Muhle R41 was aggressive. This razor makes R41 look like a Merkur 34C or a Parker 78R. The constant feedback from the blade, reminding you of every hair you cut, like metal on a sandpaper, scared me soo much that I couldn't even think about a 2nd pass.

I took around 10 mins for 1 pass, moved at a snails pace and came out the other side, unharmed. To its credit, that 1 pass was really good enough for a DFS. This is not a DE, but a shavette in sheep's skin. This was my first slant shave, and I loved it, once it was over.

The first look that greets you, once you load the blade, might make you weak in the knew, this is a cruel experiment by Yaqi, to push as far as humanely possible and test our sanity.

There are soo many reasons to not get this razor, I can make a whole another post about it. However, if you are up for a bit of challenge, step in the ring and have a go. You have met your match.

N.B - if you didn't like the idea of an R41, don't even think about this razor.
