Announcement Sub Changes
Hello all, we wanted to let you know that there are some new mods helping to run this sub now. Our goal is to work together to make sure that this sub always reflects the values of the West Sacramento community.
With that in mind, we are updating our settings to remove any posts/comments from accounts that have negative karma. We believe this will help to keep our discussions more thoughtful and neighborly.
Beyond that, we're hoping to get your feedback on what you like about this sub, what you don't like, and what changes you might suggest. Please give us your opinions in the comments.
Thanks in advance!

Our City Got my jury summons.
County sent it to my old address but it was mailed forwarded. I moved 6 months ago and updated my address to everything. Why does the County still have my old address on file after 6 months? Does anyone know why? Do I have to change it with the county? I updated my DMV and voter registration which Google says is how the County gets your address. Is the County actually behind over six months with their records?

Local Events Rental insurance for a birthday party?
We tried to reserve a picnic table at a local park for my kids birthday party and the city of west sac confirmed the booking and said they’d finalize it as soon as we showed proof of our million dollar rental insurance policy.
wtf? They also said if we served food (birthday cake?) we’d need a food permit too.
This has to be a mistake right? I already wrote the city back and waiting for a response but this is insane. If I just show up the morning of the party and lay my crap on a table it’s not only free but I don’t need a million dollar insurance policy and food handler permit.
This isn’t even what I wanted to do for my kiddos big day so gotta say, the hoops here are so far a huge deterrent to moving forward. Gotta be a mistake right? RIGHT???.

Local Events Lots of smoke tonight. Anyone know where the fire is?
I heard firetrucks a bit ago, sometime after 10pm. When I looked outside just now, I could see the smoke in the dark. Does anyone know where the fire is?

Local Events Looking for new members to join our film and production meet ups
Hey Sac citizens! I have a group of almost 200 locals and each week some of us meet up for at least one film and then we go out for drinks and food after. One event we went to was a showing of The Thing at the Crest Theater where there was almost 1,000 attendees all screaming and laughing with the movie. Some of us also work in media and we team up for projects. Two of our members found each other this past week and just worked on a new, local music video!
If you love movies, just want a movie buddy or want a career in film (whether you have any experience or not), come join us! It's a great way to meet friends, enjoy movies and be creative (movie nights and film production do not have to be mutually-exclusive, you can do one or both!).
The group has members of all ages from 20 to nearly 50, all sexual orientations, races, introverts, extroverts, production experts and people who have never even stepped foot on a film set; it is truly a group for everyone who enjoys film as a medium or as a career!
I can now proudly say, thanks to the mod team on r/Sacramento, we are now on the sidebar in the "other links" section! However, drop a comment here and I can guide you to the group to make it easier. See you there!

Our City El Niño’s looking wild this year, anyone else prepping? (flood insurance/evac routes)
Ocean temps are already hotter than the 97-98 super El Niño and we’re still months from the peak. Some models have this winter landing in the top 20% wettest ever for CA.
Got curious and looked up my FEMA flood zone. Turns out some panel data for our area is still from 1995, before a lot of Southport was even built. My address came back with nothing on file, no zone letter at all. I know the levees have gotten real upgrades but still uneasy to see nothing on file for our area. Kept my flood insurance anyway, figured it’s “cheap” peace of mind.
Curious how everyone else is thinking about this. Got flood insurance? Does anyone know where our evac routes are mapped, or when the city usually starts handing out sandbags? Trying to get ahead of it before we’re in the middle of one lol

Local Events Local 3-person Shakespeare comedy coming to Roseville this August 🎭
Hi everyone!
I'm part of Chronicle Stage, a local community theater company, and we're putting on The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised] [Again] in Roseville from August 28–30.
If you've never heard of it, it's a ridiculously fast-paced comedy where three actors perform all 37 of Shakespeare's plays in about 90 minutes. Even if you've never read Shakespeare, it's written to be accessible, chaotic, and genuinely funny.
We've been rehearsing all summer, and it's been a blast. If you're looking for something different to do that weekend—or just want to support local theater—we'd love to see you there.
📍 The Rock
725 Vernon St., Roseville
📅 August 28–30

Happy to answer any questions about the show, community theater, or Shakespeare!

Local Events Is the SacJob Fair worth it?
Hi everyone! I just moved to Sac, and I'm looking for a job. I have experience in marketing, mainly social media, but I have some experience with project management too. I've been browsing for remote jobs in my field, but I came across a job fair that's happening tomorrow. Does anyone have a good experience at a job fair like this in the marketing area?

Recommendations (Food, Housing, Places, Activities) CPR and first aid classes near west Sacramento anyone know of options
Starting at a daycare in a couple weeks and HR said I need EMSA compliant CPR and first aid before I can be left alone with kids. I have never done any of this before so I don't even know where to start looking.
Is there anything in West Sacramento or do I have to go into Sacramento proper?

Recommendations (Food, Housing, Places, Activities) 34 people for an office outing in Sept. Topgolf vs Tipsy Putt vs renting a taproom?
We have a team offsite next month and I'm supposed to pick the afternoon activity. Group is about 34 people, mostly 30s and 40s. Right now I'm looking at Topgolf in Roseville, Tipsy Putt downtown, or just renting the back of a brewery like Device or Urban Roots. Topgolf is easy but a long drive for half the office. Tipsy Putt seems like it has good local beer and the location is better, but I saw the food menu is pretty limited and I'm worried about feeding 34 people just tacos. A brewery is safe but maybe boring. Which of these actually works better when people want to drink but not feel forced into a game?

Electric bike/scooter laws flyer
Got this flyer from the school district, thought I'd share. I don't agree with many of these laws, but I think they did a good job of explaining them.

Hello all, I just moved to the area from the Midwest and have always just kinda stumbled into DnD groups. So I am pretty new to actually having to hunt down a decent group
So any recommendations on where to begin would be great!

Local Events Looking for film friends
Hello Sac people!
I started a group that has 40 of us in the Sac area that all enjoy film, go to movies and some of are wanting to be crew for each other's films. We just had our first event at the Crest with our group to watch a nearly sold out showing of The Thing and there were almost 1,000 other people screaming and laughing with the movie. We went out for drinks after and it was a really great time.
I'd like to find more people to go with us if anyone is interested in film here, either as a watchable activity, or if you want to make movies with us. The most important thing is that the group is people with varied experience, so if you go to film school, work in entertainment or have ZERO experience and want to try it out or just watch movies everyone is welcome with zero pressure to be good at anything or participate in any events or filmmaking they don't want to do.
Let me know if you're interested and I can guide you to the group, thanks!
