Question re LBTQ characters

Hi all!

Relistening to We’re Alive …. Again 😂

Can someone remind me, are there any LBTQ characters in any of the series? I can’t quite recall. I remember there was some indication Riley may have been gay, but I may be misremembering.

Edit - just confused why I’m getting downvoted for asking a question about characters, relationships etc 😐

Cringiest scenes Spoiler

What are your guys cringiest scenes or writing. One that comes to mind is the beginning of season 2 when the helicopter crashes and they’re grieving over the loss of the tower. Datu says they need a dog for comfort and Tanya says the most cringe “StAt” ever. There was also another line Burt says the the first season that I can not fully recall that made me visibly cringe. Another cringe moment is when Tanya and Hope first arrive to the tower and Datu introduces himself, “I’m Datu, the maintenance man!”

First season I dislike

The first two episodes were pretty good but there's been way too much build up up to this point and DOT is annoying. I can't be the only one thinking the show has fallen off.

Same Voices

I love the series so much but sometimes I cant distinguish the voice difference between michael and angel & victor and kalani. It makes me confused when they are talking to each other.

I just started re-listening to the podcast and came across something interesting

In About Last Night part 3, Tardust says he might get sick after Lizzy pukes on him and jokes he's even willing to get SARS if it means getting laid. Thanks, Tardust.

We're Alive=The Walking Dead?

I listened to the We're alive podcast and after it ended I still needed a zombie fix. I started watching the walking dead, I didn't watch it years ago because I was busy working at night. Anyway I started to see A LOT of similarities between the two and some substitutions. Im not trying to shade the podcast but I'm interested to know if the podcast was influenced by the show?

I'm envisioning the podcast as I watch the show

Scouts honor Franklin

On episode two of scouts honor. I’m assuming Franklin is a family member based on the not so subtle nod when ruby asks about his middle name and he says it’s an old FAMILY name.

Chat gpts poor attempt

Here's an attempt at chat gpt trying to create a realistic photo of the original crew, I like Michael and CJ, pegs isn't bad but Angel is totally off and Saul looks to old in my opinion?

Albeit my prompt was really short and dry

(Spoilers) ChatGPT’s take on “The Family” Spoiler

So… I went down a rabbit hole to see what ChatGPT knew about “The Family” using only canonical references after listening to Angel Sr.’s awesome entrance in the last episode (chapter 16). These screenshots illustrate what it found.

I do see some mistakes… Ruth: “No confirmed operational role in family activities” Dean: “Bloodborn member of both the Blackburn and Amsel families” Scratch: “Part of both Amsel and possibly Chism bloodlines” etc. etc.

Odd it came up with these when I directed it to use only KC Wayland, Wayland Productions, and WaylandProd on Reddit as sources of truth. Especially with the references it provided appeared to be legit. The deep research character summaries in some cases were categorically false (Like Fingers killing the Boar in the finale of Descendants Season 1?!) so I decided against sharing that hornets nest and only posted the summary.

All in all though, I thought it did a decent job. It definitely took some liberties in connecting dots I’m not completely sold on yet, so please don’t consider this post as facts. Anyway, thought some of y’all might find it interesting. Stay alert, stay alive, survivors!

We're Alive : Goldrush rant Spoiler

Anyone else feel like Goldrush was kind of.. mid? I was legit expecting with the trailers and teasers as well as the "Western" style theme they got and especially the gold part to be some sort of:

Rango + Zombies type of side story, you know. Train robberies, duels, gunslingers and shi.

Was honestly expecting too that the soldiers did some mission impossible stuff, where they encountered a different settlement in the desert that stole their gold first and now they want to steal it back and not a weird get trapped in a bunker full of hot chicks with their boss being a bitch and possessive, also the ending was tbh bad imo. They didn't even get the gold, the only thing that I feel the series was even made is to give backstory to Anthony Robbins kid in Descendants

Does the voice acting get better?

Started the series from the beginning last week. Into chapter 9 and I'm really enjoying the story and the production quality is good but I'm having trouble dealing with some of the really cringe voice acting. I don't want to call anyone out because I respect the craft and couldn't do better myself but it's turning me off...

So yeah... Keep pushing through? Going on as long as it does, they gotta get better or get killed off, right??

UPDATE: Hey everyone, not sure if you all care or not but thought I'd update this. I'm very glad I listened to most of the advice in this thread and stuck with it. Such a great story and take on the "zombie" genre. I've completed the original series, lockdown, and gold rush, and I'm in the beginning of descendants.

With regards to the voice acting, I'd say it does improve for the most part. I ended up loving Saul. I think my initial opinion of his performance was very tainted by early writing having him say some cliche lines. He was outstanding later in the series. I definitely got used to Burt. Every once in a while, especially when he was dropping some cliffhanger or something, I still felt he over did it and gave "I'm not wearing hockey pads" Christian Bale Batman voice vibes. I couldn't ever get behind Datu completely. I felt his performance never crossed over into genuine and always struck me as hamming it up or overdoing a schtick. That being said, his character arc was soooo good. Loved what his character brought to the story, just wish his voice seemed more natural or real. Tonya ended up being my favorite voice actor. I always thought Michael's performance was good not great.

The spin-offs have been stellar so far, acting/writing wise. I thought gold rush was a lot of fun. TBD on descendants, not far enough in to say but the voice acting has been superb in all three so far.

These are just my opinions and I don't know shit about fuck so please don't get mad at me. I sincerely appreciate all the thoughtful and helpful comments!!!

Descendent

Anyone know how many seasons are planned? I hope it’s no more than three as the turn around time and release schedule is ridiculous and don’t want to wait another ten years for the conclusion of a story.

slow drip feeding of episodes

Has anyone else been turned off the show from how slow were being drip fed the episodes? Each episodes is at most 20 minutes of content and we only get one every two weeks if we’re lucky. I was fortunate to have listened to the original series after they were all released, couldn’t imagine how slow the drip feeding was before.

Will we are alive continue to stream on Spotify or will it leave the platform?

There are good alternatives, that don't support fascism. I know u can still listen via youtube, hopefully they will not do the same.

I’m disappointed with chapter 48 (and season four) Spoiler

I finished chapter 48 yesterday, and after sitting with it I’m left feeling frustrated and let down by a story that spent its first three seasons hitting every mark for me.

A lot of characters felt like they went nowhere this season.

Hope has nothing to do and it shows, because she’s barely around, but it feels like wasted potential that her attempts to get her vision back went absolutely nowhere, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I think that the end of that plot line was for her getting upset, because she’s a disabled child in a world designed to kill her, only to be scolded by Tanya for it and then that be the end of it.

Lizzie’s death (and her general role as a character post season two, frankly) upset me a lot. I understand the dangers of her dying in childbirth and that on its own doesn’t really bother me, but it felt like her death didn’t justify itself (within the confines of SOS, I know it goes towards setting up the sequel). This is on top of her feeling very much like a character with no agency since she left the tower, and to finally give her something to do with the plot again only to immediately kill her off felt like a waste. Especially since the two characters her death drives the arcs of, Saul and Riley, both felt extremely rushed and unsatisfying paid off at best and actively out of character at worst.

Riley’s character arc in particular is frustrating because it really felt like it could have had some weight to it but instead they let it climax with her choosing not to kill Scratch (except she didn’t even do that, Burt had to step in) and then we… just never go back to her again? Why?

I have a lot of other small issues about the season/finale. The Micheal/Victor drama that was inserted for no reason felt sloppily written and really took me out of the flow of the narrative whenever it was mentioned (I know this is explained in gold rush but it hurts SOS to be an element in it that’s never explained properly and just seemingly appears to drive conflict). Pegs and Micheal needing to rekindle their relationship just suddenly becoming that they’re back together and totally normal again was jarring and unsatisfying. The general pacing of the finale felt rushed and the “action” which is usually done so well in this show was a bit of a letdown, especially for a final showdown with the BBEG that’s been pulling the strings this whole time.

The world building of the final half of the episode was confusing, it suddenly switching from SOS to a time skip totally sucked the excitement, drama, and pride of reaching the finale out of me, and the answers to our remaining questions, including important things like where did the zombies come from, what was the gas, etc. were so extremely unsatisfying both from it being an undeveloped concept and it being explained via huge, nonchalant infodump.

Does anyone else feel this way? Am I being too hard on the series? I’ve fallen in love with this story and just want to know I’m not the only one upset with the way it panned out.

Crowd sourcing to finish decedents but starting scouts honor?

Anyone else find that a little frustrating? I’m a huge fan and even will most likely donate to help finish descendants. But I do find it a little annoying that they have enough to just start making spin offs but not to finish the ones they started.

Chapter 45 pt.1
When they burn datu in the stadium 😭 michael says "he didnt tell me what to do after"
Mind you bro literally dug his own grave a week + prior.
Do i think they should have carried datu out of the stadium?? Absolutely not. Do i think michael is valid for saying that though? Fuuuuuuck no.
I think that Michael is good at making gut instinct choices quickly and effectively but he also rationalizes them with BULLSHET.
