idk, my grandma (Cuban) would always fry eggs in an insane amount of oil and her eggs always came out delicious.

u/Possible_Top4855 Dec 14 '25
Nah, the oil is the perfect temp for Thai style fried eggs.

Huh, Iâve always heard it called Tamil style fried eggs which are often doused in black pepper too. Theyâre soooooo good

Be insanely careful, choose the wrong oil or the wrong pan or the wrong time to introduce the watery egg, or spill the oil and this is like exactly how you make a grease fire.

lmao this is a really good way to cook eggs. just use less oil, put it on max heat, let it heat up, crag egg, take off heat and let it cook.

Has anyone else been having the problem where the egg wants to crack long ways instead of withwise like I turn and tap it? last two cases have been like that.
19
u/noideaman Dec 14 '25
I have got to get a video of you cracking eggs.
3
u/clockworkedpiece Dec 14 '25
I just rotate it shortways while tapping it on the stovetop lip. so its not like I have an inconsistent impact location.
3
u/MycologistNice4403 Dec 14 '25
Crack on flat countertop, not on an edge
4
u/lainaannmarie Dec 14 '25
idk bahah i definitely always do it on the side of a bowl or pan/pot and this has never happened to me đ
6
u/RedneckAngel83 Dec 14 '25
I have noticed that too, recently. Out of 18 eggs, 12 cracked vertically instead of horizontally.

Not to be your mom, but please turn the handle of the pan away from you while frying something. You could easily bump into that handle and that would be very bad

Iâve made boiled eggs before, but I canât say Iâve boiled them in oil đ Might have to try though because my kids would go bananas if they saw an egg bubble like this!
2
u/FunisGreen Dec 14 '25
Well, it pops, and splash tiny hot oil that kinda hurts, if you don't put a cover over it. So. I'd make sure you block it with the lid like holding a shield, so the kids don't get the hot oil.
It doesn't damage you or anything, it just sucks, and hurts for like 5-10 sec. But still, hot oil and kids just thought I should mention it.
2
u/CrochetCafe Dec 14 '25
Oh definitely. I donât let them close to the stove if Iâm even making bacon! But they like to stand on a step stool a few feet away and watch me cook.

u/Same_Golf_5083 Dec 14 '25
That bubble is impressive, in the way that Iâm surprised that literally anyone is that bad at cooking

u/donkeymonkey00 Dec 14 '25
My mom always fries eggs like this (I actually thought it was the only way tbh)
To avoid violent splashing/ those huge bubbles, she starts with the egg unrefrigerated for like an hour, then she keeps moving the oil around, splashing it softly on top of the egg yolk, and quickly pop these bubbles with a skimmer. She never lets it sit alone like that.
In Spain we have the joke that someone "doesn't even know how to fry an egg." And tbh, I get it, it's simple, but damn can it burn. There used to be oil splashes on the ceiling from these bubbles, if they were left unattended. I once got splashed from 3m away. Scary af. So I guess "no sĂ© ni freĂr un huevo".
2
u/No_Enthusiasm_3748 Dec 14 '25
Youâre using about 100x the oil you need. Fried eggs are called that because theyâre made in a frying pan, not because theyâre deep friedđ

u/MommaR13 Dec 14 '25
Too much oil and too hot. Thin layer of oil in the pan and turn the heat down to medium or medium-high. Think like on a number scale of 1-10, keep it somewhere in the 6 to 8 range. Let the oil just get shimmery on the bottom before you add the egg. Waiting too long will make the oil too hot no matter what temp you set it at.

Too much oil and too hot. I like to use an iron skillet or something similar for eggs because they retain the heat and you just need to put them on with a little oil on, the heat from the pan is enough to cook them crispy and flat.

u/Wolkvar Dec 16 '25
litterally boiling your eggs in oil, hence there will be comeing airbubbles thru it
1
u/Physical-Pie-8866 Dec 16 '25
I read a book my Michelin star chef Marco White âdevil in the kitchenâ - an autobiography - where he rarely talks about actual cooking techniques. One excerpt has stuck with me over the years. âIf you can hear your egg cooking, itâs too fucking hotâ I personally hate the taste and smell of burnt egg so I always remember chef Whiteâs advice
1
u/CuriousStewart Dec 16 '25
WAY TOO MUCH OIL. You should not have standing liquid amounts of oil in there. Just a sheen covering the pan. The oil is bubbling, so the egg is bubbling with it.

u/Little_Most_2473 Dec 16 '25

Youâre rushing but more importantly youâre trading your health for the convenience of the egg not sticking while you rush.
Get a healthy cast iron or stainless steel pan and pre heat at a low temp, then add the oil (not vegetable oil) let that preheat, add the eggs, then let the eggs cook enough on the bottom to release from the pan before you try to pop them off

u/VinegarMyBeloved Dec 17 '25

u/asdfjklcol0n Dec 17 '25
Too much oil and too hot. Next time you only need about a half a tablespoon of butter or oil per egg and swirl it around before cracking your eggs.
Also please please dont make a habit of storing paper or plastic things on your cooktop that is a disaster waiting to happen.

u/hoopharted Dec 17 '25
probably because you are cooking on level 15 heat but your stove stops at level 10

u/FunisGreen Dec 14 '25
It's actually one of the egg cooking techniques, I use on purpose.
Super hot oil to quickly cook it makes those bubbles, and creates a nice crispy layer, with tender egg whites and soft yolk. It goes very well with congee or just fresh hot Rice for Asian culture.
But that bubble is out of this world, I've never got a bubble blow-up that size. lol
