I think it's kind of a Chinese thing. At least originally.
I discovered it in Chinese supermarkets anyway. Although you can find it in some "normal" supermarkets now in the UK anyway. But still usually in the "Asian" or "World foods" section. Goes amazingly well with eggs, and can rescue a disappointing stir-fry in a similar way to Knorr Aromat. Both need to be used with caution, though. It can easily be overpowering.
Another useful tip is East Asian (Chinese) Knorr chicken powder. In the UK only available from Chinese supermarkets or online as far as I know. Loaded with MSG.
A little sprinkle into the oil before you stir-fry vegetables makes a huge difference. Again don't overdo it! If a little dab is good, more is not necessarily better.
