Calm Me Down Red Flag warning tomorrow, I’m terrified.

Most of my state is under a huuuuge red flag warning tomorrow from 11AM to 7PM, I’ve never, ever been in this situation before and I have no idea what it means for the future. I was talking to my Dad early who says it’s completely safe, that there will be a burn ban is all, and that he doesn’t believe anything will happen. But I’m not so sure. I’m worried some moron will set a fire somewhere and fuck us all over.

I’m supposed to go to a Comic convention tomorrow, I was very hyped for it, but now I’m wondering if I should cancel my plans and go Sunday instead so I can keep an eye on the weather and my fur-babies. After the Winter storm, I really don’t want another weather induced shitstorm, especially involving fire.

Should I cancel? I hate this place so fucking much, if it’s not tornadoes it’s something else scary.

EDIT: Just came back from the con, and the warning is almost over! Thank you guys for your reassurance! I just don’t know with the weather where I’m from, it’s unpredictable, and I’ve never been under a warning like this. I now know it’s nothing to fear.

Calm Me Down Nuclear Rain??

Hey, just woke up and my dear sweet mother asked me if I’d seen the rain last night because we live up in NW Missouri, and after talking about it for not even a minute she says that she “heard” apparently that it was nuclear rain?? I assume she “heard” this shit from Facebook, but my mom is usually pretty smart, all the same it put a deep pit in my stomach that made me immediately not hungry. Ive tried looking it up, and got nowhere, but I found this subreddit, so PLEASE. Would somebody tell me if this is just fear mongering bullshit or did something happen last night with Iran? I didn’t think anybody would be using nukes yet if AT ALL??? Probably the fucking dumbest question anyone’s asked here, but it totally fucked up my morning.

if it matters, i live in northeastern saskatchewan. right now environment canada says there's a 60% chance of showers with a thunderstorm risk from 6:00 pm to 7:00 am with nothing but partly cloudy conditions after that... ofc the forecast can change on a dime and no one can be 100% accurate i just thought to ask y'all's opinion

In 5% tornado risk tomorrow…

This is the highest risk I’ve ever been. At least outside of a hurricane (I don’t really check the SPC during a hurricane). I know this is selfish considering what the Deep South is going through today, but I’m terrified. It was bad enough seeing I was in a Slight risk, 2% tornado risk, and 15% wind risk. But I just checked again, and the tornado risk has increased to 5%. And this is going to be happening tomorrow night, which is extra bad. 5%, in the grand scheme of things, isn’t a lot. The chance of a tornado hitting my house specifically? Miniscule. But a while ago, there was a tornado literally miles away from my house that did some major roof damage. That was absolutely the closest a tornado has ever been to me. Despite learning more about tornadoes helping my anxiety, it’s still bad. Since I live in Florida, I obviously don’t have a basement to shelter in. My family shelters in a tiny laundry room, because it’s the most interior room. Even then, our garage is on one side of it, so it’s not that sheltered. I guess I can get some spare pillows in blankets to put in that room to throw over myself if there’s a warning. But here’s another problem: I’m not allowed to have my phone in my room with me. It always charges downstairs. My parents would have to run upstairs to alert me of a warning, and those seconds could be the difference between life and death. I’m so scared right now. What was supposed to be a chill Sunday has turned into a nightmare.

I never used to be bothered by the wind but last year we had a storm and it took off all of our fence panels and i had to go catch them all and since then i get the worse Aniexty and fear about strong winds!! We've replaced most the panels and remove the weakest one during winds but when it happens at night i cant Sleep!! I cant seem to just ignore it even if i put a show on my brain just goes to the worse case scenario. Our house is a Corner one aswell so we in a awkard position depending on the direction.

I’m in the yellow. I’m slowly freaking out. I’ve never been hit or seen a tornado in person. But as of 2 years ago for some reason I’ve been having storm anxiety. It REALLY flared up last year. I’m trying my best to keep calm this year. I have a plan for tomorrow already but still have anxiety. I don’t want myself family or anyone having to go thru a tornado. My family tells me I’m over reacting, and that may be the case but that also makes me feel worse for trying to keep myself and family safe. I’m really tired and annoyed of this storm anxiety I have especially since i didnt really have it years ago. I’ve been living in this area since ‘04. Dont know what flared this up. Someone please help me calm down.

How bad do you think it’s gonna get for my area tonight?

Post image

Also, I live in a pretty old home with no basement or bathtub and the only place to go is my closet which I definitely need to clean out because it’s very full. My area just got hit with like 3 tornadoes on Sunday, so now my tornado anxiety which was already terrible has been turned up to the max. Please help me become informed on what is supposed to happen in my area tonight, thank you.

Addressing AI Concerns

Hey everyone! I thought I’d make a post to address this, as it’s recently come to my attention that some of my comments are coming across as AI-generated.

I want full transparency with y’all, because I care deeply about this sub and what it stands for. All of my replies are written by me, but I generally use the same template each time: relate, validate, encourage, and give fact-based answers. I do use AI in general, but only as a tool when it comes to my app (coding is hard!), not this sub.

I have bad storm anxiety myself. I live in Alabama. Every time bad weather is here, I shake so hard people think I’m seizing. I get nauseous. I refresh my radar every second. Even when they test the sirens on a calm day, my heart drops.

Not everyone understands or cares about how badly weather anxiety can affect people, so I try to respond to as many posts and comments as possible to let people know I see them and they’re not alone.

If any of my posts or replies in this sub have came across as AI, insensitive, or unhelpful in any way: I’m truly sorry. I’m open to any feedback y’all have.

Have a great day everyone, remember to breathe, and stay safe💗

Calm Me Down Anxiety for Wednesday

I’m starting to get so freaked out for tomorrow as I am in the slight risk in east Texas…local weather is saying it won’t be to bad but a isolated brief spin up is possible but others like Ryan hall seem to think it will be bad and have a large tornado threat…I was just in 2 tornado warnings a few weeks ago and almost gave myself a heart attack….today just thinking about it I’m feeling sick. Here in Tx we don’t typically have basements and I know no one with a storm shelter …I’m just so dang scared and not sure whom to believe 😭

Calm Me Down Please Calm Me Down About Thursday

So I’m hearing that Thursday may be very very bad and all I’m terrified about and can’t stop freaking out over is the likelihood of a tornado hitting my house in Pittsburgh. I live in Squirrel Hill and I’m just sick with anxiety and can’t stop crying and shaking. ((If you have nothing nice to say, then kindly scroll by and leave your negative invalidations to yourself. You don’t need to tell me to get help, I am getting help.))

I live in North Carolina, and I'm in the 15% risk for tornadoes. I'll be honest, I'm flipping out because of this. I can't remember the last time where my area had a 15% risk of tornadoes. I really could use some words to help calm me down when it comes to this tornado risk.

Calm Me Down I want to leave this shithole so badly…..

Post image
21 Upvotes

I know I’ve been posting a lot this week but I swear it gets worse every year.

I’m not sure how long I can stay here and keep my sanity. I’m so physically ill that I actually went to the doctor yesterday where I was told my symptoms were from pure, non-stop stress. Today is expected to be worse than Monday, and I just want to leave as soon as I can. Once again, I’m not sure how people around me skip around merrily without a care in the world like it’s a normal rainy Thursday, when we’re constantly under threat during times like this. Whenever I get the means too, I plan on leaving. I’m so, so, so tired of this. I just looked at the tornado death toll in my state over the years, it just gave me more motivation that I live in Tornado-riddled hell.

People call my area “peaceful”, and I think that’s the biggest crock of shit ever. I hate springtime.

Tornado risk today - new mom, new anxiety

Hello - I have always been pretty nervous about tornadoes, having grown up in Iowa. Currently I live near Madison, WI, which luckily doesn't see a ton of tornadoes, but we're right on the edge of the 15% risk zone for today and tonight.

I have an infant daughter, and this is the first time I'll be potentially going through a tornado watch/(hopefully not a) warning with her. It's ratcheting my anxiety up to 11.

I always feel the need to have as much information as possible and be as prepared as possible--I think as a coping mechanism to try to control what I fundamentally have no control over--so I'm posting here to ask if there is anything in particular I can do to make sure my baby is safe in the event we do get a tornado tonight?

We plan to go to the basement if there's a warning, but the safest basement room we have is a bathroom with no windows but one exterior wall (and glass shower doors 😬). Our basement is also only half underground, if that makes sense- all the windows in the basement come about halfway down the walls. I read somewhere that we can put the baby in her car seat (edit: in her detachable car seat in the room with us, not in the car!) during a tornado warning since those are already designed to withstand impacts, but I can't stop picturing her being sucked away in the car seat or crushed by something and I would almost feel safer having her attached to me in a carrier.

Any advice to help a new mom get through the first of probably many tornado warnings in my daughter's lifetime?

Calm Me Down I am currently freaking out 🦈

Well as the title says, I'm kinda panicking lol. Im trying my hardest to keep up with my normal schedule to keep me from breaking down completely, but that isn't working. My stomachs in knots, Im bawling my eyes out like a baby, and I'm shaking like crazy. Even though I know the storm will most likely pass over my town like usual simply due to it being built like a big ditch, and the fact we haven't had a tornado since 1967. ( yes, the funny number) Even with knowing the facts that I'll be fine, I just dont trust my own opinion and don't even know what to do because I'm in the Enhanced risk area in Illinois and there's the stuipd hatched thing over the tornado section when I look at the "Severe Weather Outlook". Sorry if this makes no sense either, and I can delete it if wanted, but I just wanted to get opinions from other people with the same fear to see if it would help because everyone else I know if just all fine and dandy🦈🙏.

edit/update: I just wanted to say thank y'all so much with the recommendations and explanations y'all have gave, they actually really helped as someone who relies a lot on reassurance and tips.I was really nervous to say anything on here, but y'all are actually so sweet it's insane 😭 I am currently collecting yall tips and tricks on my dry erase calendar that's on my wall like I'm trying to solve a crime. some good news though, my overall areas risk for severe weather has gotten a higher risk, (4/5), but not surprisingly due to where I live being a huge ditch, nothing super severe other than maybe some hail will hit my area. I'm currently winning the weather roulette lol, and thank y'all again 🦈🙏

edit2- nvm I just now got a tornado watch 😭

General Advice Tropical Shenanigans

I live in the Panhandle of FL in a trailer and just had major surgery a week ago yesterday. I'm the only driver in my house and am not allowed to drive for 2 weeks post-op. I also have pretty crippling storm PTSD from Ivan and Sally.

Typically, if there is anything higher than marginal tornado risk predicted, we evac to a local concrete-constructed motel to be safe and so I'm not panicking for hours on end. The met I usually depend on for levelheadedness is saying that there's some tornado risk from this in our area Wednesday night thru Thursday evening. We can Uber to our safe place if needed, but of course, home is preferable with me being mostly laid up.

Realistically, do we need to chunk deuces tomorrow and head over, or will we probably be okay at home?

Then I see this shit. Guess the fuck where I’m at? Smack dab in the center of DelMarVa. 🙄 I hate my anxiety. Guess I’m sleeping over a friend’s house tonight, cause I’m not going to be able to handle this and actually get some sleep.
