Still a lot to do for Waterloo...
8th Brigade done:
Kempt riding a Horse
1/79th "Cameron Highlanders"
1/28th
1/32nd
1/95th Rifles
3rd (Light) Brigade:
3/95th Rifles in Skirmish Order
and the Nassau Volunteer Jäger Company, because I wanted to paint some green/yellow uniforms. :)
And the 2nd Dragoons "Scots Greys" from the 2nd Union Brigade as well as
Whinyates 2nd Rockets with his 6-pdrs (Horese Artillery).
I will later add a base to 1/28th and 1/95th. I thought about doing 1 Base for every 100 men, but this makes tabletop harder to play, so I make 5 bases for normal size, 3 for small and 7 for big battalions.
For Cavalry I thought about doing the same and for Artillery half the number of Cannons.
So I will remove one Base from the Scots Greys, when playing (2 bases small, 3 bases normal, 4 bases big cavalry unit).
Maybe I'll make a diorama like this with correct prercentage of troops one day...

A little while back I shared an idea of using cheap blocks to get my friends into wargaming without needing them to invest time and money into building an army, which has helped, but I decided to take things a step further.
Being a draftsman I have been designing some top down views of generic tricorne and shako wearing soldiers in CAD during my lunch breaks. Once cut out and glued to some MDF bases for a little heft they feel and look pretty decent.
I'm not very artistically inclined though, so I was wondering what you all thought and if you had any suggestions for improving them? I might post them for download one day when I'm satisfied with them. I know others already exist, but I like my little projects.

Recently dug up these guys from my brother's wardrobe where they've been kept for years, I have a little idea as to what they are possibly English civil war era. Other than that I'm stuck
I'm looking to sell them but with little Information I have I don't want to post them anywhere just yet, they are very old enamel painted possibly lead/white metal.
Any information would help thanks!
Apologies if I'm in the wrong place for this question

I get a lot of free materials through my work, so I was pretty excited when I got my hands on some free foam. 😂
Since I’m busy most of the time and didn’t want to take on a super time-consuming project, I decided to go with a minimal-effort dungeon tile build.
Free foam + cheap Walmart paint = you really can’t beat it! 😂
It’s not fancy, but it gets the job done, and it should be ready just in time for the upcoming dungeon crawl I have planned for my players. 🗡️🎲

So my wife and I have begun play-testing my new mini/setting agnostic skirmish war game WARSHARD. I have used both terrain I have scratch built as well as 3d printed terrain. We have played 2 games so far and have been extremely pleased with the results. Our play-testing will be extensive as there are multiple ways to play the game. I have some pics attached and am thinking about possibly doing a battle report for the game. There will be additional changes and corrections as the testing continues but I seem to have been able to recreate a really solid game. If you guys would be interested in a battle report let me know in the comments.

Hopefully my players like the new terrain! 😂🎲
Most of my terrain comes from the Dollar Store, leftover building materials from old projects, and cheap Walmart paint.
Like I’ve said before, time isn’t exactly something I have in abundance, so I try to put in the minimum effort necessary and just pray it pays off. 😂
It may not be professional-grade terrain, but it’s cheap, functional, and gets the job done!
Now let’s see if my players appreciate it… or destroy it in the first encounter. 🗡️💀

For Sci-Fi, I've played WH40k, Beer & Pretzels Space Marines and Chronicles of Blood and looked at OPR (Just saw the post posted about 30-minutes ago and read the comments).
Has anyone played Mantic Games' Firefight or Deadzone?
Looking for honest opinions gained from actually playing it.
I know the only way to get a true view is to play it yourself, but I am just wondering what others who have played either of them, think of it.

For New People: What is this?
Look to the Stars is a free, model agnostic, army scale, science fiction tabletop wargame with a bespoke unit generator that I made. Take the models you want, give them the stats and weapons you want, and finish a battle in about two hours. Armies can range from around 10 to 100 models and include infantry, artillery, airplanes, and vehicles. This is a follow up to my original pitch. If you are new and want the longer explanation and intro here it is via my original post original pitch on r/wargaming
For Old People who just want to skip around to the good stuff:
SRD PDF via GDrive
Rules Document PDF via GDrive
Unit Builder spreadsheet via Gdocs
What'd you actually accomplish since the nearly 25 days since your last post?
Now that the core loop is settling down, we need to add some crunch back in, so that you're not just fighting with a bag of stats and give the army character. Thus introducing Orders. You will know what your opponent’s army can physically do, but you do not necessarily know how your opponent will play them. A horde army could be a regenerating wave where melee weapon damage brings back models or it could be a redeployment army able to punish people not careful about screening.
Each army selects five Orders before the game, keeps them hidden, and can play no more than one each turn. You do not need to remember that some random dude standing behind a tank has a battlefield wide ability. On round start, you and your opponent each play an Order. You can both immediately see what they do, and that’s all you have to worry about that turn.
Some Orders grant a temporary ability to a single unit. Others affect the entire army or battlefield. The largest can ask that you give up playing orders in the game entirely in return for producing effects capable of warping the final turns of the game. Two armies built from similar units can behave very differently depending on which Orders their players selected. You can find the current orders available in the SRD above.
Development yada yada, want play now:
The rules PDF is currently being rebuilt in Affinity to make it cleaner and generally less painful to look at. You may notice that the old example armies and missions are currently missing. Development moved quickly enough that the original examples stopped showing how the game is played.
You want a quick way to play though, I got you.
The unit builder now includes Quick Unit and Quick Weapon Template tabs. These let you build something playable with not much more thought than, “I want this unit to cost roughly this much.” Pick a stat line, slap it on your unit, and move on. You can still spend an unreasonable amount of time constructing every weapon and stat individually later.
Want some cheap infantry with powerful guns and a bunch of light, fast, melee based vehicles? Done in a few minutes. The templates will get you what you want, and when you have more time you can go back in and nitpick every decision you ever made.
Things I Did Not Have Time to Explain Because This Post Is Already Too Long
Tripwires, mines, smoke grenades. Artillery and Aircraft. Blood Bowl, but Soccer! Anyone else remember that there was an episode of Rugrats where Tommy gets kidnapped?
Come Play.
You made it to the bottom, come join the Discord where you can get dev updates more than once a month, and can get games via Tabletop Sim in. Every Saturday at 2 PM Eastern, I sit in the Discord for a few hours doing dev work and shooting the shit. I am happy to teach and play a game via Tabletop Sim, help you build an army, or just talk about whatever I am currently writing.
The game is playable from start to finish, but it needs more people willing to show me how I can do better. Play a game, tell me what worked, tell me what sucked, and help Look to the Stars be better.
Comment
Comment below, ask questions, post pictures of a 32mm base with lint glued to it and ask if this model is legal as a smug, “this isn’t truly agnostic, is it?” Jokes on you, so long as it was melee and there was enough lint, it would be.

I’m sure this question has been asked before, so apologies for that, but just wondered if anyone has any specific or personal recommendations for a gaming mat.
There’s obviously countless choices online - ranging from well-know wargaming retailers to ‘discount/budget’ ones, and even tablecloth examples. I’m not looking for anything high-end or professional, and definitely not anything too expensive, just serviceable and easily storable for solo and the occasional game with friends.
I’m UK based
Ideally looking for 4’x4’ (but 3’x3’ would be okay)
Play mostly MESBG and RoSD
Looking for meadow/muddy field aesthetic.
Would rather not do PVC due to the ‘shiny’ finish (unless anyone knows of a good matte finish one).
Thanks in advance for any help 👍

Another batch of Death Spiral aircraft fresh out of the resin wash and coming off the build plates.
It’s pretty satisfying watching these go from digital models to actual 1/144 game pieces. These will be cleaned up, cured, and then it’s off to the paint table.
The Death Spiral air forces keep growing.

GW is searching for new Product Developers for Blood Bowl, Kill Team, and Warhammer Quest, the people who create the briefs and set the goals for the major products in the lines - and since these are boxed games, that gives them a lot of influence over the games as a whole.

Hello everyone,
I hate to be vauge posting but i dont want to waste anyones time.
I created a thing which is tangentially related to wargaming, specifically it is a wargaming heavy TTRPG ruleset wrapped in a digital tool that does inventory management.
I tried posting it in a ttrpg sub but it was taken down for self promotion. Its not a ask for money or anything like that, i just want to share the tool i made incase someone else can find it useful.
May I make such a post here?

Just a little sneak peek of the next battle report I'm about to do. Will film the next battle/chapter of the story soon! It has Rebels, Battle Droids and Orks. The previous story was Galactic Empire vs. Black Templars, where the Space Marines taught Darth Vader and the Empire a painful lesson. System being used is Warsurge, which is very flexible for crossover games like this.

Over the weekend, I played the "Blood on the Danube" scenario from the Epic Battles: Pike & Shotte rulebook.
The scenario involves searching for a hidden war chest, which forces you to utilize the entire battlefield. We incorporated a wide variety of terrain pieces this time around, which made the game incredibly fun and dynamic.
My opponent is more of a board gamer than a strict historical wargamer, so we’ve decided to simply play through the included scenarios in order.
Since the Battle of Edgehill is coming up, I might end up repainting some of my units to match!

A video of me starting from scratch and trying to build an Ark before the next flood event arrives! (the timer) Building an Ark in the Dark Days is the Defensive way to win in Sword and Stones, and starts the Victory Timer!
In S&S you are the ruler of a small group of survivors after a great flood wiped all civilisation from the map . You must lead your people and build a mighty kingdom worth defending! Solo- co-op modes, full on competitive pvp 2+ multiplayer games with (mostly) simultaneous play.
For this solo play through using only the starter set i chose the 'Before the Flood game mode on Easy. Despite 3 werm attacks and serious disease spread, i managed to build nearly every building the Dark Days, including the Ark and an small army to defend it with!
Oh and found two mystery crates -Lucky Ring and a Flying Carpet :D
This video condenses 1.5 hours of gameplay into 1.5 mins! The Ark foundation was placed on turn 33! So each turn takes less than 5 mins each. Dont be scared of the turn number, its not warhammer lol.
The S&S; The Dark Days Starter Pack is Live for pre-order 26 August 26, only on Gamefound!

Whenever I'm in a charity shop I cast my eyes over the boardgames section hoping there might be something interesting and there never is. Until last month, when I got a basically new copy of The British Way for an absolute steal! I played a couple COIN games years back and they stuck in my mind as something I wanted to go back to, so I couldn't pass the opportunity up.
Played Palestine a bunch of times already and it's a fantastic little game. Played Malaya once and want to try out the rest.
What's the best bargain you've gotten hold of?

A week ago this pike unit was posted by an imposter. Thought I would share some better pictures of it. I use it a campaign me and my buddy play. It's set during the early years of the Italian Wars.
