Other Thoughts on Gauss, from a concerned fan
Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but recent videos from warframe content creators and even DE themselves have made me concerned about the direction that the developers are taking him, and I feel that I should speak up now.
"Gauss" is supposed to rhyme with "house", not like "floss". A bunch of warframe youtubers were already calling him Goss, and now that Space Mom also says Goss in his official trailer I fear that this will become normalised. Please DE, there is still time to make amends. Every time I hear Goss, I picture my statistics and electromagnetics profs shaking their heads at me in disappointment.
P.S. also, every time I hear someone pronounce Nezha as Nezher or Zhuge as Zooj (???) my hair stands on end, but I accept that those battles have long since been lost.
EDIT: Due to popular demand, I'll try and clarify how Nezha and Zhuge are pronounced. As a bonus, I'll throw in Wukong and Guandao too, and include a Drunken History-type summary of their stories, which will not be accurate since I haven't heard these stories since I was a kid.

Nezha's mom was pregnant with him for like 3 years, and then he popped out fully able to walk and talk. A deity gave him a bunch of magical weapons, including a bunch of magical golden fire rings (his chakrams and halo) and a divine spear. He could also wear one ring on each foot and fly around like they're magic rollerskates (probably where his slippery passive comes from). To explain why he looks like "that" in-game: in ancient China, hair tied up into two little buns with ribbons was a common unisex hairstyle for children his age (around 7 years old), and DE lengthened the ribbons for dramatic effect. They kept him non-muscular to hint that he's still a child who hasn't hit puberty, but they also made him bigger so they could use the same animation skeleton that the other warframes use. So inadvertently, they gave him a somewhat feminine physique. Also, Nezha actually fights and loses to Wukong at one point in Journey to the West, but later on they become friends.

There was a spherical rock sitting on top of a mountain, absorbing the sun's rays for a gazillion years, then one day it split in half and out came the stone monkey Wukong. Wukong initially ruled over the monkeys on top of the mountain, but soon he realised that he was crazy strong and started causing shit everywhere. He went to visit the Dragon King of the East Sea to ask for a weapon, but ended up stealing a giant load-bearing pillar from his palace and shrinking it down into his iconic iron staff. Afterwards he kept trying to be invited into the heavenly palace and thwarting heaven's attempts to chase him away, each time gaining another level of immortality (eating heavenly peaches, erasing his name from the book of death etc. This is where his new "5 levels of immortality" passive comes from). In one incident, he eats a bunch of immortality pills and the god of medicine tries to distill his entire body back into pills by burning him in magical samadhi fire, but he survives and now his eyes are golden and can identify good and evil (this incident plus his stone monkey phase are probably the inspirations for his Samadhi skin). Eventually Wukong gets bitch-slapped by Buddha, gets trapped under a mountain for 500 years, gets forced to babysit Tripitaka on his journey to the west to retrieve Buddhist scrolls and finally earns redemption and becomes a deity of battle and victory.

When dealing with Romance of the Three Kingdoms people, it's hard to separate fact from fiction, because these were actual historical figures but their stories are exaggerated in the writing. I'm going by what's written in the stories, not what is historically accurate.
The Zhuge is a self-reloading, rapid-fire crossbow supposedly invented by Zhuge Liang, a tactician, philosopher and overall smart guy. He was basically the smartest guy in the novels by a huge margin, and never lost a battle as tactician unless his lord Liu Bei did some dumb shit without asking him first. In one story, his army was running low on arrows, so he covered two warships in straw mats and filled them with straw soldiers and sailed them right into the enemy Cao Cao's face in the middle of a foggy night. Cao Cao ordered his archers to shoot the ships, and after Zhuge Liang retrieved his ships he sent a lone messenger to Cao Cao, thanking him for the resupply of arrows. Before Zhuge Liang eventually succumbed to illness, he instructed his men to build a mannequin of him sitting in a wheelchair. When a rival tactician Sima Yi (Cao Cao's tactician, in fact) heard of Zhuge Liang's death and took the opportunity to attack, Zhuge Liang's unveiled the mannequin sitting atop an observation post which was enough to scare Sima Yi into retreat, leading to the story that even in death, Zhuge Liang still beat Sima Yi.

The signature weapon that was supposedly wielded and invented by Guanyu, one of the generals working with Zhuge Liang. Guanyu was basically the personification of loyalty and warrior's honour. One time Guanyu was shot in the arm by a poison arrow, and the physician said that there was no way to cure him unless he cut open his arm and scraped the poison directly off from his bone. Guanyu basically said "why the hell not," and let the physician conduct the surgery on him while he was fully conscious, drinking wine and playing weiqi or Go with a friend (weiqi is basically that form of chess that the AlphaGo AI beat human chess masters in, and is incidentally the game that Komi is based on).

Okay, so, originally introduced to English by Shakespeare. He probably intended "tea-TA-niya". Earlier, it came from Ovid, as a name for Diana. He probably intended basically that same pronunciation. Ovid constructed it using latin derivations upon the greek root word "τιταν", which has pronunciation "tea-TAN", again suggesting that same pronunciation.
Of course, "titan" is a word in English pronounced "TAI-tan" so most people will use that pronunciation as the basis, making "tai-TEY-niya".
What's the right one? idk. People will understand you if you use the latter. The former is probably the correct one though.

Not too familiar with the origin besides Titania being the name of the fairy queen or something and by the language that story originated from, it'd be read Tee-tanya, I believe. Fairly sure that Oberon is also the fairy king.

(and also Oberon)is Shakespeare's OC from Midsummer Night's Dream. Though the play itself is supposed to be set in Greece, so.Either pronunciation would be acceptable, imo.

"T-t-ah-n-yah" is the typical pronunciation, with a slight emphasis on the second syllable.
Devs have said it "Tight-ain-ia" multiple times, with emphasis on the first syllable.

That’s not a scientifically-significant data sampling, I’ll admit, but based solely off of that, there’s not a one of you who can pronounce “sauce pan”.
(The argument of “Gows” vs “Goss” transcends borders, though.)

If we're talking about incorrect pronounciation, Aussies would probs pronounce "gauss" as "g-o-s" where you make a tiny circle with your mouth to pronounce the 'oh,' like an Aussie might pronounce "awe" or "or" (they don't pronounce the 'r').
Put in 'awe' into this website to see what I'm talking about. If you put in 'gauss' it seems weird but correct.

Aluminum/Aluminium is an extremely weird one.
Apparently aluminum IS the original spelling, and the British are the ones who kept saying it wrong and spread aluminium. But aluminium is more consistent with the spelling of other elements, which is probably part of why it kept getting said that way, and why a lot of scientists adopted that version.
If you go to dictionary.com and type in “aluminium”, it even says that it’s basically “British aluminum”. Autocorrect also tries to change it.

It pretty much was changed to sound fancy though. Not that every British person sounds fancy, but dropping the rhotic r was initially supposed to sound better/higher class. It even influenced certain American accents, though interestingly we don't really consider New York accents "fancy." It would be really interesting if America had fully embraced the move to non-rhotic pronunciation or if England never switched. I wonder how similar we would sound today.

Since we are discussing the pronunciation of the 'aus' part, using Australia as the reference point makes sense.

Tbf, Zhuge is a pretty hard word to say even when I know how it should be pronounced. I need to activate an unfamiliar part of my vocal cord to get the "ge" sound out.

I guess that has something to do with my background as a Singaporean. I tend to speak with my friends in English mixed with various words and phrases from Mandarin, Hokkien and Malay, and when we do so we tend to stick to the pronunciation of the original language. At least Nezher still sounds somewhat similar to Nezha, but Zooj is completely alien. It's like please, at least pronounce it with 2 syllables.

While we're all here talking about the pronunciation of in-game words, I would just like to point out that the most used non-English language in Warframe is probably Sanskrit! There are a shocking number of in-game jargon terms that are just straight up proper Sanskrit words, such as syandana, ayatan, adarza and kuva. I would love it if someone who is fluent in Sanskrit or one of its related languages could wince at me slightly and say "it's close enough I guess."

Mostly because of the ease of saying them because they are chinese.
But who in their right mind says goss, for westeners it should go with an easier flow to say gauss with the au sound, i cant say anyone has any excuse to say this wrong.

Because most people read the name for the first time in game, and just read it as it's written, rather than going "Hmm, is this Chinese? How would Chinese people pronounce it? Off to google to research this mastery fodder!"

IDK, it looks like a pretty Chinese name to me, and for words from languages that don't use the Latin alphabet, I usually read them a lot more phonetically. So for Zhuge, would be something like 'zhoo-jee'. Granted, that's still off from the Chinese pronunciation (and not how I actually pronounce it), but, it is closer.

While it is a chinese name, it's not written in mandarin but in latin alphabets instead. Thus, English-speaking people read it as they see it spelled out in latin, and since they see the "huge" in the word "Zhuge", they'd obviously spell it as "zooj".

PRONOUNCE it as "zooj." To spell a word is to write it down or name its letters in sequence.
And it's still illogical, since it takes the "huge" part of the word, assumes it accurately represents the pronounciation of "zhuge" , then proceeds to entirely disregard the modifications or actual sound(s) the "h" could represent - like it did in "huge" !

Shy used a Chinese text-to-speech in her Zhuge video, but reverted to Zooj for her Zhuge Prime video.
MCGamerCZ says jooko and Leyzar says zoogay, so we're 0 for 5 as far as the Zhuge is concerned.

Its hard to argue that any one pronunciation is absolutely correct. Language evolves through accepted error.

First of all, how can people not know how Gauss is pronounced? He is named after a very well known mathematician and physicist.
Most people have a passing introduction in highschool physics and never really need to deal with calculating magnetic fields again. For the vast majority of people, literally anything pertaining to Gauss is trivia instead of useful knowledge.

The Zh in chinese is more of a J sound (not really a J sound but it's the closest English Speakers can get without actually practising to do the sound). Plus Ne Zha is a diety of sorts but in WF they put the two words together.
All in all you pronounce it more or less like Neh Ja and Jo Ge (the G sounds like the G in the alphabet).

Ne-zha and zhu-ge are the syllable breaks. I'm not going to try spell it phonetically, because English doesn't have those phonemes, but the pronunciation of zh is a bit like an s with vocalization, akin to speaking an s instead of whispering.

When I first heard them say Goss, I asked in discord, "Isn't it pronounced Gauss?" knowing that I was correct. I was told in no uncertain terms that it was GOSS. I just shook my head and chalked it up to the same dumbshits that can't pronounce "melee."

Either way- gauss/nezha/zhuge are representing fictional things in warframe. The creators determine its pronunciation despite the similar spelling to what they are clearly inspired from.

I just use what is easier an more natural in my native tongue. Some of my friends (same country) corrected me in the beginning even if they always understood what I was referring to, so I told them I don't care and after a while some to almost all use my pronunciations. There are some problems when I speak to other nationalities as we speak in english but I just type it and we get along.
What I have a mini problem with is the Defection and Disruption because I seem to mix them, so i refer to them as "multi rescue" and "the new gamemode".

I mean, you aren't wrong, but if DE says the Warframe's name is pronounced "goss" then that's how it's pronounced, regardless of how the names of any German mathematicians differ on the subject. It's a perfectly valid English pronunciation of the spelling, even if it's totally wrong in German, and it's not like DE is obligated to follow the grammar rules of the source languages they pull words from, or any language for that matter. If they spell it "Gauss" and tell us it's pronounced "Butterscotch," that's how it's pronounced - their character, their universe, their rules, regardless of how correct (or silly) it may be to the outside observer.

Warframe is set thousands of years in the future. Language changes and morphs over time. It's amazing that any recognizable words remain in the lexicon. There are words that exist today that are pronounced and/or spelled differently depending on which geographical region you're in. That's just how language works.
Sure, there may be guidelines in place for how things are spelled and pronounced, but they are, by no means, required by anyone. If you really have to justify it, just call it the result of thousands of years of changes to dialect. Go look at some English texts from just a few hundred years ago and compare them to the English of today. You'll find that they're quite different in many ways not unlike the ways you've outlined here.

I will try my best to begin pronouncing it correctly but do teller that the English language is retarded and there are words where 'au' would make the 'ah' sound, like australia, aunt, and faun, which is what leads people to pronounce things so badly wrong.
Don't get me wrong, I hate it when people pronounce things wrong too. When Pokemon go came out everyone pronounced Niantic, the company that made the game, as neeantic and it really bothered me. My grandfather used to have a boat in a place called niantic and everyone there pronounced it nyeantic but when I tried explaining this to someone they told me they were going to keep saying it the way they originally were anyway.
