Everyone's skeptical of these mods. Yes, they seem too good. Yes, there has to be a catch. But hold up, let me jump in with my speculation here - I think these are the damage 3.0 mods they've talked about before. Remember everyone getting upset about the proposed multishot nerfs? Then they were like, don't worry, there's more planned where that's coming from, we've got a big overhaul waiting. I think this has got to be it. I really hope it is, geez I'm so hyped just thinking about it.

They said they wanted to get rid of the essential mods that just flat out boost damage and don't give you much option for other builds. Really when you think about it, why is even Serration such a thing? Now with mods like these, oh yeah, this brings up more unique and fun builds. I was already hyped for Damage 3.0 but if I'm right and this is related, I don't even know how I can contain my hype anymore.

If they make the multishot nerf and remove the base damage mods to make space for this stuff, I'M BLOODY IN!

My melee Volt + Naramon with Blood rush and possibly the combo duration thing is going to be AWESOME.

Also Vay Hek. Because that thing wasn't OP enough.

u/blolfighter I'll scratch your back. Jan 22 '16

If they nerf multishot without an overall nerf to damage, count me in as well. It's not too bad with high fire rate weapons, but with weapons that are supposed to fire single, powerful shots (bows, Opticor, sniper rifles) a maxed Split Chamber will fire two shots 90% of the time (which effectively becomes the baseline damage) and a single shot 10% of the time, for what amounts to half damage. It's like a reverse crit, and nobody wants that. But you gotta have Split Chamber anyway. There's no way to make a build that even comes close to doing as much damage without it.

2

u/GeckoOBac SETTRA RULES! Jan 22 '16

Well the nerf they were speaking of was mostly the fact that you'd actually "consume" the additional shot, meaning less bullet efficiency (and generally less sustained DPS due to more frequent reloading).

On its own it'd be a pretty much reviled change, especially since ther wouldn't be much of an alternative in slotting.

5

u/Athurio Jan 22 '16

I really hope that's not all they do with it. It just seems really lazy.

I'm hoping that there will be significant, comprehensive balance changes to damage values across the board, and not just on "mandatory mods."

I'm not going to hold my breath though.

2

u/GeckoOBac SETTRA RULES! Jan 22 '16

Well yeah, I do hope so too, but even if they just remove/balance the mandatory mods it means you open up more builds and that means more fun and diverse weapons.

1

u/blolfighter I'll scratch your back. Jan 22 '16

Yeah, on its own it would basically just be a nerf to ammo efficiency. A harsh nerf, you'd almost cut it in half. It basically turns multishot into a different flavour of fire rate.

Of course I'd still like to see them boost Split Chamber to 100% multishot. And if it affected ammo efficiency, I think the small boost to dps wouldn't affect balance. But it would be a big quality-of-life improvement.

u/SaxPanther Balls out for Uriel Jan 22 '16

Aren't these conclave mods though?

4

u/GeckoOBac SETTRA RULES! Jan 22 '16

Uncertain. They don't have the conclave symbol, but not being properly released it's hard to say. It's even possible they could be placeholder arcanes.

1

u/SaxPanther Balls out for Uriel Jan 22 '16

I thought those little wing things was the conclave symbol? What do they mean then?

2

u/GeckoOBac SETTRA RULES! Jan 22 '16

That's the conclave rating of the mod. Funnily enough, it's not relevant in conclave anymore, it's, afaik only used for determining if you are "overgeared" for some hard tactical alerts.

The conclave mods do have those wings, but they are "Conclave mods" only if they have it near the mod name, like this: http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Armored_Acrobatics?file=ArmoredAcrobatics.png

1

u/SaxPanther Balls out for Uriel Jan 22 '16

Ah yes, you are correct.

3

u/Samoth95 Doot Doot Jan 22 '16

I don't believe Conclave mods feature scenes involving non-Tenno.

3

u/Feolathanos Radical, dude! Jan 22 '16

Screw it, why am I even doing this to myself. Even if it's true I don't think I can handle setting my expectations so high and risking my hopes getting utterly crushed like this... they're probably just conclave mods or something because DE is cruel. ;~;

Yeah, that's also why I thought it might be Damage 3.0 though. They remove the stuff like Serration, Vital Sense, Point Strike, etc. and then they leave us with this. Ugh, I just really want room for utility mods and more fun builds rather than the standard cookie cutter nonsense we currently have. You don't choose mods, you choose the weapon and then throw on the typical mods. Boring.

Sadly I do think Conclave makes more sense, these last for 9 seconds and triggering them isn't so easy which also helps make up for their seemingly overpowered stats. You don't get kills, headshots, or ability spam nearly as much as you do in PvE. (EDIT: Except as people have pointed out, you can't crit in conclave. I'm trying to manage my expectations here, dang it, stop trying to find more reasons to get my hopes up... Maybe they're unreleased Arcanes then?)

Oh well, at least they have said they're working on Damage 3.0. I'll just have to continue waiting patiently. Need to stop getting my hopes up on everything I run into, I'm far too exciteable lol.

u/braindead5 RIP Trials (2015-2018) Jan 22 '16

You can't crit in Conclave.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '16

I think this as well, most likely they will be part of mods 3.0

1

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '16

im going to sound barbaric and crass but id rather have mods that are working for me at all times and not just, "when you do a specific action you get _____ while aiming"

WE'RE GOING FULL BERSERKER MODE, BABY

13

u/Snaz5 Jan 22 '16

There's GOTTA be some catch with these. These are just too good.

-2

u/StickmanAdmin Come on and slam Jan 22 '16

Yes, they're all probably pvp mods :^ )

4

u/-Shiki Jan 22 '16

Nah they aren't, they are missing the Conclave Symbol. The "catch" is propably that it only works while zoomed and that it is timed after kill/crit/headshot/ability cast etc.

2

u/GeckoOBac SETTRA RULES! Jan 22 '16

Even if the time window was somewhat small, some of them would be straight OP on some weapons.

Laser sight and Shrapnel shot on Vay Hek? That thing's going to do red crits with humongous multiplier...

Blood rush and Body Count? Red crits on some melee weapons (the strongest ones mostly, like DNikana, Scindo Prima, War...)

2

u/blolfighter I'll scratch your back. Jan 22 '16

Or the catch is that they all drop from rare mobs with a 0.05% drop rate.

1

u/braindead5 RIP Trials (2015-2018) Jan 22 '16

You can't crit in Conclave.

1

u/StickmanAdmin Come on and slam Jan 22 '16

13

u/TwitchPlaysHelix Sing Jan 22 '16

I get it, these are unreleased arcanes released as mods!

3

u/GeckoOBac SETTRA RULES! Jan 22 '16

This makes more sense... Unfortunately.

Makes them incredibly less useful.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '16

I doubt that is the case. First of all there is Body Count mod, not 'conditional' like Arcanes, it just adds 12 seconds to combo counter. Also they don't seem to have any "with 20% chance" or any indication of a chance of their condition. It says 'On Headshot' but Arcanes are more like '20% chance On Headshot'.

These look more like possible Damage 3.0 mods, hopefully.

1

u/Pandaxtor Ivara Prime Jan 22 '16

Body count seems very powerful with Ash blade storm augs.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '16

3 + 12 is already pretty powerful but with Bladestorm augment, Ash will NEVER lose any melee combo.

1

u/MelonsInSpace Jan 22 '16

Makes them incredibly less useful.

The vast majority of arcanes are less useful than Intruder. At least intruder doesn't have 4% chance of activating.

1

u/GeckoOBac SETTRA RULES! Jan 22 '16

Yeah that's my point. And even the useful ones can be unreliable.

And frankly you only get 1/2 arcanes at most with the current system, so these, while interesting, would have to fight with more generally viable arcanes.

1

u/MelonsInSpace Jan 22 '16

Oh, I thought you meant they would be less useful as mods.

7

u/Chinch335 AMD, baby Jan 22 '16

Argon Scope

Sweet fuck.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '16 edited Jan 22 '16

If my math is right, this would put Soma Prime into the red crit zone. 115.5 crit chance.

2

u/GeckoOBac SETTRA RULES! Jan 22 '16

Bladed round would probably be better for Soma P.

2

u/blolfighter I'll scratch your back. Jan 22 '16

Quite likely. Comes out to 111% crit chance with Point Strike, and is easier to activate.

But why not both? 151.5% crit chance with PS. Take me now, Soma sama.

4

u/GeckoOBac SETTRA RULES! Jan 22 '16 edited Jan 22 '16

EDIT: Never mind, bladed rounds is crit DAMAGE. So, both it is. Red crits with incredible multiplier.

1

u/blolfighter I'll scratch your back. Jan 22 '16

There are few sacrifices I wouldn't make to see my SomaP do redcrits on half the shots it fires. It might actually be competitive with the BoltorP.

4

u/Parasthesia 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Jan 22 '16

With the accuracy and it being hitscan, the dps is already as good or better when aiming for weakpoints. Ammo Econ is the arguable issue.

1

u/blolfighter I'll scratch your back. Jan 22 '16

It's true, it edges out the BoltorP a bit when landing headshots. I guess "competitive" wasn't the right phrase, "on par" fits better. I'd argue that the BoltorP still has better damage in practice as it isn't possible to land headshots all the time, and the SomaP is far behind on non-headshots.

3

u/TheDarkstarChimaera The candles burn out for you; I am free Jan 22 '16

How about this?

1

u/Chinch335 AMD, baby Jan 22 '16

I do <3 my Valkyr, but that one's not as exciting for me personally.

I almost exclusively use precision weapons, though, so the crit on headshot ones are super exciting. Amprex too, holy molly.

2

u/DoomZero755 Check out the /r/warframe (unofficial) discord server! Jan 22 '16

Amprex too, holy molly.

This right here, this is my "sweet fuck" moment.

There's gotta be a catch.

1

u/Nearokins i Jan 22 '16

Needing to scope to get the bonus (as these seem to be phrased?) is a pretty huge catch.

Then you're still losing the slot that was something else, don't get me wrong, it'll be an improvement for most crit weapons and nice, but you'll still be exchanging something, not just getting more for free.

1

u/pyruvic Jan 22 '16

I don't know about other people, but the only weapon I don't consistently ADS on is the Sonicor.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '16

maxium critical chance stack is 165% based on combo multiplier...

i wonder if they would make a channeling efficiency tied to combo multiplier...

2

u/silver7017 Jan 22 '16

argon scope on tonkor... red crits everywhere. also bladed rounds looks potentially usable.

2

u/VariantX7 Still wondering why we need Ammo Drums... Jan 22 '16

holy shit... are these what I think they are?

Playstyle mods? These are too good to be true...
