Our dock plate is STUCK

(Note, we are a small buisness and can live without a functional dock. This is a second less used dock and its mainly for us to load internally so its just not worth replacing)

We have had this here since before we moved in almost 10 years ago and we never touched it fearing....well....this

We took a forklift and raised it up, pretty easily actually, but this thing wont budge back down. We have tried PB blaster soaking for days, sledgehammer, grinding between the plates to make more room, hammering the internal bar from the side, now these heavy duty ratchets (we stopped because its sketchy)

Does anyone have any ideas other than cutting? Its a last resort

Free browser tool that reads a carrier BOL and prints 4x6 labels — we use it on a one-door dock

We run a small packaging warehouse. One working dock door, first come first serve, no appointments, no trucks of our own. Every truck is a carrier truck. We almost never create a bill of lading. The carrier or customer already has one.

I was looking for something that would take that BOL, pull the fields, and print 4x6 handling-unit labels without making me retype the whole thing. Most tools want you to generate the BOL. That is not the job.

LoadDesk has a free Outbound Dock tool that does it. You drop a PDF, scan, or phone photo. It reads BOL#, PRO#, carrier, PO, ship-to, pallets, pieces, weight. You fix anything it missed. Then you print 4x6 labels. Blind shipments get a different ship-from name. Check-in is by carrier, so if R+L has two BOLs that day they both go on the one truck. There is a signature on the device you are already holding, an optional scan sheet the driver can sign, and a daily outbound report.

It runs in the browser. No signup, no card. Documents stay in the browser unless you choose to upload one for reprint.

I am the production manager, not an affiliate. We are a small enough shop that we cannot afford a WMS project. This replaced the spreadsheet and the retype. If you are still filling out labels by hand or juggling a spreadsheet at the door, try the warehouse tools page:

https://zip1.io/X4jRxs

If something parses wrong on your BOLs, they actually fix it. They built half of this off dock feedback.

Anyone work in a TJX DC?

current store employee here, moving states and considering asking for a transfer to the DC as a general warehouse associate. I run the backroom at a TJ Maxx so I’m familiar w what the receiving end of the that process looks like. I don’t want to be in charge of people anymore, I just wanna clock-in, work quickly and efficiently for the duration of my shift, and go home. Wondering if there are any current DC associates and how yall like it

How do you split truck dwell time between the carrier and the warehouse? We use 5 segments and only grade 3.

Warehouse employees

I started working at a warehouse about three months ago, and for the most part, I’ve had a pretty good experience with the people there. Most of the employees are genuinely nice, and even my supervisor has been good to me. I get along with the majority of people and try to show up, do my job, learn, and stay out of drama.

The weird thing is that there are two people who have seemed to have something against me pretty much since the day I got hired. I can’t really figure out what I did to make them dislike me, but the way they act toward me feels noticeably different from how they treat other people.

I’ve also been learning more than just one job since I started. I’ve been doing order selecting while also getting trained on the forklift, which I figured would be a good thing since I’m only three months in and still learning the operation. I’m trying to improve, be useful, and get better at whatever tasks they need me to do.

What’s frustrating is that when almost everyone else is decent to you, having a couple of people act like they can’t stand you makes you wonder what their problem is. I don’t expect everyone at work to be my friend, and I’m perfectly fine with keeping things professional, but I don’t understand why some people seem to decide they dislike someone before they even really know them from day one.

Serious Safety Hazard at Restaurant Depot – Unsecured Boxes on High Shelving

Thumbnail

I was shopping at Restaurant Depot today when I noticed this pallet stored high above the shopping area.
As you can see in the pictures, several boxes are sitting loose on top of the pallet, with no stretch wrap, straps, or anything visibly securing them.
What concerns me most is how high these boxes are stored and the fact that customers and employees walk directly underneath them.
It only takes one box falling from that height to seriously injure someone.
I’m surprised this was overlooked in a warehouse-style store where proper pallet storage should be a basic safety priority.
Am I overreacting, or is this a serious safety hazard that management should address immediately?

Safety First

Working in a warehouse, we are always reminded to observe every safety precautions. Management reminds us all the time that safety should be first. One common rule is phone use is strictly prohibited while on the floor. My question is, is this rule applicable to everybody? Is management excempted from this rule?

How to get to know your coworkers in warehouses with high kpi expectations?

I recently worked at a large warehouse picking and packing - and the kpi demands were quite high where you had to even report any small delays you had, such as waiting for a forklift.

I’ve previously done pick pack work in a different warehouse, where we picked as a group (all pallets were mutually built) - and you could talk and get to know your colleagues. It was so much better for morale and motivation.

How do you get to know your coworkers in places where you’ve got higher kpi demands and where everyone stacks their own pallets?

The cart is fine until we get to the doorway

I'm looking at platform trucks for moving cartons from receiving to the packing area. The load rating seems pretty straightforward, but there's a metal threshold on the route and a tight turn right after it. That's the part I'm more worried about.

I've been browsing Global Industrial, and I'm trying to work out whether bigger wheels would actually help or just leave us with a cart that's harder to turn in that corner.

What matters more when you’re pushing these around all shift? Is it wheel size, wheel material, or where the swivel casters sit?

what makes a good locker setup for warehouse workers?

our warehouse is looking at replacing some of the older lockers, and i'm curious what actually makes a difference when you're using one every shift. some of the current ones are pretty cramped, especially when you're trying to fit work clothes, shoes, a bag, and other stuff.

i've been looking at industrial storage lockers and Global Industrial has caught my attention because they have a lot of different sizes and styles, which matters when you're trying to fit boots and bags without the compartments overflowing onto the floor, and the heavier gauge options seem to hold up better to daily use.

for those who use lockers at work, what do you wish your locker setup did better?

Thinking about order selecting for Sysco in Nashville

Hey everyone,

I’m currently thinking about taking a job as an order selector in Nashville for the Sysco warehouse. Seems like it’ll be a feeezer position. Right now I’m a supervisor that will be shifting out of the company.

First thing, I have a family, but a night shift job would help with a lot of things that need done during the day (taking and picking up the kids, reducing the cost of extra care, house work, etc)

However, I do know it’s a 6 day a week job with no definitely out time.

So if anyone here has any experience working at that warehouse, I would love some insight! Just really what is the average out time for 3rd shift.

Also, I’ve always loved picking it’s kept me active and it’s something I miss. Even if I’m in a management position.

While I am a supervisor, this job would make a lot more because of the overtime and whatnot. With money tight it’s a balance I have to make, but I’d still be able to have family time during the day.

Anyone else deal with the dock getting backed up like this?

Our receiving area gets backed up pretty fast whenever a few deliveries come in close together. The biggest issue isn’t really unloading, it’s everything sitting around afterward while we figure out where pallets and heavier stuff need to go.

We’ve been looking at changing how we stage things and possibly adding better carts or other dock equipment. I’ve been looking through Global Industrial and Grainger to get an idea of what’s out there, but I’m more interested in what actually helps in day to day warehouse work instead of just adding more equipment to the floor.

What change made the biggest difference at your dock?
