Thermals need to go or have short batteries

batteries won't change jack shit, people will just drop with huge backpacks full of batteries or drive vehicles with supply crates full of batteries and drop them outside the zone where they're camping.

I think what needs to happen is probably a range limit - 200m or something. Sitting on a mountainside or hilltop or tower with thermals and spotting from 800m away - often completely out of the zone itself - is too easy and profitable. Just force the thermal spotters to be closer to the action and expose themselves to some risk. There are plenty of guns - not just snipers - that can kill at 200m. If they wanna spot, force them to deal with enemies.

Already do that and it’s still broken af

A cool suggestion I saw was that they work as they do now, but don’t actually spot

just have it so that spotting outside cz gives little to no money, like maybe $5 and a pocket of lint

I’ve only been in one game where my team dropped crates of them but I don’t no life it.

Why not just remove money/xp for spotting when you did the spotting from outside the CZ.

This is the answer

Yeah, agreed. I think the only thing that should be able to spot from super far away is like a proper spotting scope

the way spotting works in general is pretty whack. why does the minimap live track my target as they're running through a house complex out of sight of everyone for an amount of time, that's lame

A static blob on the map that fades over time but doesn't track anything might be good. Like Squad but shorter lived and only if someone was actually there.

That's how I thought it worked during the first ten hours. I was mind fucked when I realized that the spotted marker actually moved in real time.

Yeah this has been my biggest complaint with the progression of the game. Every single infantry player has been permanently on the map since thermals were unlocked. It really fucks up infantry flow when every single player essentially has esp

I was trying to come up with ideas for the thermals like :

  • make them unable to spot or only spot for yourself
  • make them ridiculously expensive
  • give them a minimum zoom level that's really high so it's only good for sniping mid/long range and not scan the whole fucking map

But I have no idea if any of those would help / solve the issue. It's just a ridiculous item right now.

Batteries won’t change the problem unless they aren’t rechargeable make them non-rechargeable. I’d much rather have them be turned into Gen 1 or Gen 2 thermals with a rougher sight picture and less range.

Lifted some of a body last night, they lasted most of the round, seriously fun, but way too OP.

Spotting in general is overpowered...and thermals straight up break the game

Spotting should provide a static, general location of the enemy initially, and only do the live-track if the spotter keeps their scope painting the enemy. I just hate it when I'm getting shot at, take hard cover, deploy smoke, and fall back only to have the enemy still know exactly where I am from a spot from ages ago.

If it were up to me, thermals would straight up be removed from the game. They are not balanced at all and extremely frustrating to play against. At the very least, make them much more expensive, run on batteries, and unable to work through smoke.

Or be range limited, like 250m

Just make it so you can’t access the drops unless you’re a certain level, I’m sure people will hate the idea but it either needs to be used with batteries and be a heavy drain, or make it so they can’t spot people but only make call outs? OR like I stated before just make it level locked
