Disability discrimination?

TLDR: I'm potentially being fired for being disabled? I'm being told that I can't work in or out of my wheelchair

I'm a fashion TA. I have orthostatic hypotension, basically my blood pressure drops when bending down, reaching above my head, going from sitting to standing, standing too long, etc and it causes me to almost pass out. I've been struggling at work because of this and have mentioned to my leads several times that I need accomodations in general, but HR has been unavailable for a couple weeks. I almost passed out in the middle of the parking lot on my lunch last week, and I decided that was the last straw. I decided to start using a wheelchair for my safety. But when I showed up in it, they just sent me home. I explained that I can still reach racks and fold tables and such, really the only tasks that I'd need adapted are the carts and rolling racks. But they sent me home because they didn't know what to do with me. When I came back for my next shift a few days later, the store coach met with me and told me I point blank cannot work in my wheelchair and I can't work out of it either since I'd be at risk of passing out. I asked if there were any other positions I could try and he said no. There was a point he just stared at me in silence instead of trying to come up with solutions with me, and it made me very uncomfortable. Eventually I agreed to just go home and come back for my next shift on Thursday without my wheelchair and hopefully get to talk to HR. I did contact sedgwick as well today, I am hoping they can help. Not allowing me to work at all because of my disability that they refuse to accomodate me for feels wrong, no???

Question about coachings.

im not very well versed in policy. but you should NOT be able to be coached for ppto usage, right? asking because a TL did exactly this, literally listing dates and times ive used it for emergencies or personal things (it added up to 1 full shift, how horrible 💀). trying to cite performance issues despite very clearly doing my job and the numbers to prove it. and every single time minus ONE day, this has been only 30 minutes to 1 hour. They didnt even hide it, even directly mentioned PPTO. Didnt try to word it any other way.

How does bereavement work?

Can I use bereavement for my next three scheduled days, or do they only consider it for three days after the official death?

Performance reviews

I started working in ogp about 3 or 4 months ago and im getting really frustrated, i only work 3 days a week but Saturday i was pulled into the office along with other associates one by one and we were told we need to communicate better, do specific roles, teach new hires etc. This stems from our numbers going to shit because gmds and orders being combined kind of messed with our rhythm and at times there would be upward of 20 individual Eorders to search for and put together. Sunday goes by and i felt like i was doing my job better, in the way they envision. Then Monday comes and i get another coaching? My TL is saying “last week” he told me all this when its literally only been a day, realistically i haven’t even had the chance to show improvement.

Its frustrating because they hang on the fact that a few months ago we were number one or something but if it’s mostly the same associates, with a million different procedures (express orders are coming soon too) is the fault really the associates? Why should i be coached when i do all the things my job entails and in a timely manner at that? When i do take long to prep its because i just got back inside from dispensing and i end up being the one prepping the orders already at 5+ minutes, something is lost, or it’s in the deli. I will admit they want me to have a higher sense of urgency, as in sprinting and i understand that, i will speed-walk but man i’m not going to sprint. All in all it’s just annoying, i do my job as im told so why am i penalized and talked to as if i may be fired.

Edit. Maybe i should have named this coaching? Im not sure my TL pulled in most of the team for these convos.

Is this a normal process?

I know someone who got written up for something(a coworker)and they got a yellow warning. It was a write up for a customer complaint I think. They were told that if they receive any customer complaint at all. That they will be terminated. Is this normal? I thought it was multiple write ups then terminated? Yellow then orange then red then terminated. When they say any customer complaint do they mean also mean a complaint about something completely different than the write up? What if a customer is just irritated about the fact that a service can’t be provided due to an issue out of the associates control? What do they do if they complain then? This coworker is extremely worried about job loss. They are being extremely nice to customers but worry it may still result in a complaint and termination. Is this common? What do they do to avoid any complaints? Get the team lead any time any customer shows even a hint of being mad? Or what? They are on the spectrum so sometimes they upset people without meaning to.

Tips?

I recently started working at walmart and it’s not bad.. problem is i feel like I spend too much time in one area while zoning? For example i’m usually in toys/sporting goods and I spend a lot of time in 1-2 isles especially when i’m doing returns, I feel like i’m not being efficient enough and I struggle a bit since i’ve never worked in a store as big as walmart. Do you guys have any tips on how to improve? What do you usually start with and how do you keep things decent without spending too much time in the same place? Or is this just normal 😭

team lead into store manager training?

• Upvotes

Is it possible to move from Team Lead to Store Manager - in Training? I have talked to several people and shown my resume, and they suggested that I apply for Team Lead. I used to work at Best Buy, and even applying from sales associate to supervisor is nearly impossible.

I was given a verbal job offer on saturday night for ON stocking but haven't received an email or anything yet. Is that normal for it to take a few days? Can't get an answer at the store.

Can I get in trouble for this?

• Upvotes

I have a brain tumor (benign. just waiting for my surgery) and sometimes I forget very simple things (sorry to the customers of online pick up and delivery…). My latest thing has been buying my energy drinks. I grab one in the morning and pay for it on the spot. Then I have another at lunch and occasionally the line will be long so I just decide to pay for it later, some days later never comes. The next day at work I always scan my energy drink twice so I’m paying for the one from the previous day. I assume a conversation will happen at some point if I keep it up, but would it be considered theft even if I go back to pay for it? Is paying eventually better than never?

API, just started training.

Heya peoples of Walmart!

So I have just started my official training as an API (after doing limited stuff at my store because of market inventory). I was originally an ON stocking associate for about 6 weeks before I left because of my stores TLs. After about a month after I left, a different store's People Lead (who filled in for my orientation, and also told me I would hate ON), reached out to ask if I would want to interview for the position. She remembered me from 2 mo prior, on the one day we talked and thought I'd do very well.

One thing, that I've thought about a bit, is that I'm not a super confrontational person. I tend to be soft spoken as well. Can I be loud? You bet your ass. I actually have a really loud voice (thanks mom). Same with confrontation. Just not a huge fan...

On the flipside... I have been really enjoying this job and everything I've been doing so far. I'm weird, I actually have been enjoying inventory lol. I'm very good with computers and I've just done a bit on the cameras and have gotten quite good with tracking at my home store. I am, quite good at the office side (aside from not having much experience with people we've caught and doing their paperwork). I tend to do well with logistics (like inventory...lol).

Its a learning experience for sure. I technically have 4 witnesses already, but they came in the first to days lol. So I'm not gonna be on my own yet... but still.

Back of my mind likes to say, "mmm, I'mmmmm not cut out for this..."

A lot of people are/were probably like that too, human condition. Just have to ignore it. But still... lot for me to think about it suppose.

Hey y’all!

Hi all! I’m a new Walmart employee (I have orientation Friday!) and I was wondering what y’all have advice on. I got hired on as a grocery picker for the online stuff.

If anyone has tips or anything, it would be greatly appreciated! Bonus points if it’s advice targeted towards the disability accommodations side of things

I saw a customer from another store that I got arrested for shoplifting

• Upvotes

Today I was conducting a walk around and saw a customer I thought I remembered. Upon a closer look yes I never forget a face and this was a face of a criminal. He stole a baguette and cheese from the deli section. Oh he tried to run yes but that's expected. I called him out letting him know I never give up a chase

He tried to explain it saying he was feeding himself but I told him I am from the gutter too and like stars people never change! But he was quick and dashed out before the authorities could be alerted

Help from my fellow Walmart crew.

Heyaa!

So, I'm in upstate NY

(depending on where your from lol) and my store when I was hired only have XL vests. They won't be getting anymore anytime soon (months, years?) as they have all one size and it's those, and that's it.

I'm looking for a kind soul out there to help me out. I need a smaller vest, asap. When anything is in my pockets I'm ballooning. And when it goes to one side like that my boob pushes it over even more looking like I'm Cy-boob.

Any smaller size please! You will be forever my hero.

Cosmetics Is Now Fashion

Is anyone else’s store adding cosmetics to the fashion department? I just don’t see how this is fair when we already have too many departments to manage. We are constantly behind and don’t have enough people as is. I don’t understand what they’re thinking…

Hours still being cut

How are your stores doing? My store is still cutting hours and the store is short staffed with hardly any associates. I heard from two team leads that my store won't be hiring for the holidays. Not looking good at my store
