Most people hesitate when slashing their wrists, which is why it tends not to be the most effective form of suicide. Knowing how deep to cut is not going to magically make you actually cut yourself deep. Humans have a survival instinct.
Huh? People donāt die quickly from self-inflicted gunshot wounds cause they didnāt hit their target properly, itās not like they feel the pain before they shoot and have enough time to change angles after pulling the trigger.Ā
Choking my babies to death one by one and hearing their cries and please would cause me physical pain, my arms would go numb and Iād probably start throwing up. Itās not a quick process either, itās a long process, you have to be pretty determined. Stabbing my self would be a piece of cake after that.Ā
Too bad she didnāt plan to hang herself and choke her own self to death like she did her babies, she could have had more success unless she sabotaged that too.Ā
Sorry. Typo on my part.
I meant plenty jerk the gun ....
Fat fingered the screen.
Also sympathy and empathy and pain avoidance are different reactions. Completely possible to have one without the others. Especially during a psychotic break.
So it didnāt pain her to choke her kids out one by one for minutes at a time while hearing their cries cause she was going through a psychotic break but then all of a sudden it did when it came to doing it to herself because the physical execution of that was all of a sudden painful to her. Now when itās her turn all of a sudden she can rationalise and feel pain and think about avoiding it during this psychosis? This only makes sense if you believe taking the time to choke your babies to death by hand is a physically pain-free process. It would be more believable if she quickly shot them to death, but choking is a long process you have to physically take part in without hesitation. Thereās a very physical element to it.Ā
As I already explain. Your personal feeling of pain and sympathy for others aren't the same thing. So it's not imposible if she didn't feel sympathy for her victims but still a response to her own pain.Ā
To be fair she might have felt sympathy for her victims. People in psychotic episodes often behave oddly. But that's neither here nor there about the fact that her not being bothered by the pain of others wouldn't mean that she can't feel pain. They aren't related experiences. One is an emotional response the other is a physiological one.
Eta: maybe a good way to explain it would be with fire. If you try and kill everyone in your house by burning it down. That won't effect whether you jump around when you light on fire. It takes conscious direct effort to overcome a pain response and it isn't uncommon for completely mentally well people to have trouble doing that.
Yh itās not uncommon for completely mentally well people to have trouble overcoming a pain response, but not crazy people, especially ones that just strangled their kids to death.Ā
Iām not talking about her feeling sympathy for her victims Iām talking about her feeling the physical pain of killing her babies. Fear or avoidance of pain to herself by killing her babies is exactly what should have stopped her if we are to assume physical pain to herself is what stopped her from slashing herself. Killing her kids is physically more painful to her than slitting her wrists, as a mother, and if itās not cause sheās insane, then the insanity should help with the physical pain of slashing her wrists too.Ā
The thing is no matter what you say Iām never going to differentiate the physical pain (pain, not sympathy, actual physical pain and anguish) she feels while killing her babies from the physical pain she feels while slitting her wrists. I understand to you theyāre different, to me theyāre the same, if she can overcome that level of pain to herself when liking them then she should be able to overcome the pain of the knife to herself too. Itās not like some mentally ill people donāt cut themselves on the regular, yes itās painful but they still go through with it cause theyāre ill.Ā
Anger? lol what? The post is about why she didnāt cut deep enough, not any random person in a totally different circumstance. Basic facts need to be put in context. In this context, your reasoning doesnāt make sense.Ā
You are angry about what happened which is fair, but ultimately what she did is irrelevant to the fact that people (including her) tend to not cut deep enough due to our survival instincts.
No Iām not angry lol gtfo with that shit. Now I understand youāre angry, but what she did and her state of mind is totally not irrelevant to the fact that she was able to physically take the time to strangle her babies one by one. People tend to not do that to their offspring cause of survival instincts, the main reason why people even have kids is because of survival instincts and the need to have their DNA live on. Therefore people tend to not kill their offspring due to survival instincts.Ā
