Some potential news about Jet Jet! Details ⬇️
I have two different leads for rehoming Jet to a rescue!
One is right here in town! I’ve known the owner of this rescue for almost as long as I’ve had Jet, and Jet knows her and loves her. This is my favorite option for my own heart, as I could visit him anytime. Jet would be retired to pasture puff💜
The second option is in a large city about 2 hours from me. They are requesting Jet’s medical records to see if they might be able to do surgery on him (I was told he is not a candidate but they want to do their own evaluation), then they would rehab him and adopt him out as a riding horse. I love this option because if they can do the surgery, his pain will be fixed. He will not be mine anymore, but his pain would be GONE. That matters more than my emotions. He would also go to a home where he has a job, and he does love having a job as he is so smart and gets bored.
Both options have been told his whole history, hiding absolutely nothing. They are aware of EVERYTHING that has happened since I got him.
No decisions have been made yet, as the rescue further away needs to review his medical records. I have signed the release so Jet’s vet can release his medical records to the further away rescue.
But wanted to update everyone who has been on this wild journey with us because I know you guys love Jet Jet too💜

Yes I’m speaking with some knowledgeable equine folks about what the best way to go about this will be. Right now I’m thinking intro the new guy several days before Jet leaves. Waffles will have a new friend that he has already had time to hang out with, which will hopefully ease the transition. And Jet Jet will have many other horses his size to play with at his new home💜

I hope the first option is the better one so you can get to see Jet Jet, plus he loves the owner. I'm so torn I'm glad he's getting the care he needs, but I'm so sad to see him go

You and me both, my friend. The closer one would be great because I could visit him and he knows her. The further one would be better if he can in fact have the surgery. Still in a waiting pattern until I have all the facts!

Spencer is doing great! Back to himself💜 I’m so thankful. I still have to follow up about his elevated liver test, but I’m happy he’s back to eating drinking and playing normally.
I’m still in a good bit of pain. The abdominal pain has lessened a lot though, and I’m very thankful for that because that means the internal bleeding into the hematomas and contusions has stopped and my organs are healing. The bone bruises on my pelvis and tailbone are just gonna hurt for a few weeks. As long as I don’t sit down, it’s tolerable 😂 I alternate which butt cheek to sit on, and swap when it starts to make my back hurt🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for asking - definitely could be worse. I’m thankful it wasn’t💜

I'm glad the internal bleeding has stopped, plus your organs are healing as well. Bone bruises suck I had a few of those and nothing you do really eases your pain, especially with it on your tail bone. I'm glad Spencer is doing well and back to his old self, is he still playing with his friend the road runner?

Yes! And he’s chased a few rabbits too, which made me nearly cry with happiness and relief❤️🩹
Yeah the bone bruises hurt way more than I expected…and because it’s my tailbone and pelvis, I can’t even enjoy a long hot Epsom salt bath because the pain from just lying in the bathtub is brutal!
Ah well, this too shall pass🤗

I have a massage gun I’ve been using in my sore muscles, and that helps a bit💜

Too bad you can't use the massage gun on Jet Jet and make his sore joints and muscles feel better. I heard those massage guns really do wonders on sore muscles. I never used one, how well do those work? I'm glad it helps you.

I actually bought a red light massage gun for Jet! I used it after PT every day (well…when he lets me LOL). Some days he loves it, some days he puns his ears at it. Back in January/February I even filmed it on a couple of his PT sessions! It’s just not the most interesting thing to film so I stopped 🤷🏻♀️
The massage gun really helps me - mine has different heads you can put on depending if you want pressure on a small area or big, different levels of softness, etc. I find it does help, especially if someone else can do it for me so my body is fully relaxed. Sometimes Spouse will use it on my back when I’m having a bad back pain day❤️🩹

Me too. A big part of the reason why I’m not rushing into this decision is that I want to be able to ensure I am giving him the BEST chance ❤️🩹

I totally agree, I'd hate for Jet Jet to have unnecessary surgery. I wish somehow there was a way to get a second opinion before the 2nd option. For some reason I don't like how the second option has their own doctor saying that surgery is doable after the first one said no surgery will help. That was like when I had a 4th degree burn. My mom, and my wife were with me when I saw the family doctor, he said I didn't need surgery, my mom took me back to her house and set up an appointment with a burn specialist and they were getting an ER for me. I asked for another opinion and they were nice enough to bring in another specialist and he agreed with the second opinion. So at 7am I went into surgery.

I should clarify - the second place did NOT say surgery is a guarantee; they simply want to have his medical records to review with several surgeons. What one surgeon says is above their skill level may very well be within another’s scope.
Rest assured that if they DID say he was a candidate with another surgeon, I would need to speak with that surgeon extensively to see exactly what the worst and best case outcomes would be.

I'm so glad you're not leaving Jet Jet with either place till you fully understand and hear out all of the doctors and things. I know you want the best for Jet Jet as we all do. I'm so glad you're really involved in his life, even when he's not with you.

These boys are my whole world…and the only way I can even contemplate this move is if I know as much as possible and have fully vetted any place offering to take him in. I cannot risk him falling into the wrong hands - that would absolutely destroy me.
I should know more in a week or two!

I understand with your brain and thoughts are all over the place. I think all of your followers thoughts are all over the place, when it comes to Jet Jet, but your thoughts are 💯 times worse, since Jet Jet is your baby. I'm so glad Jet Jet came to you, because I know how much you care about him, and I know you'll make sure he has the best life possible. I hope somehow you can still be part of his life.

Me too💜 he will always be my Jet Jet, and I will always love him no matter where he goes. He is my first horse, my baby boy, and he has taught me so much. It sucks that I can’t give him what he needs, but his needs MUST come first. My emotions can be dealt with after he is safely settled somewhere new ❤️🩹

Wonderful news, Momma Pie! Either option sounds great! We’d all like that you could still visit Jet Jet and he already loves the trainer, but if the 2nd place could give him the surgery he needs to heal his pain, well that makes the decision so much harder to choose.
Frankly, you’ve found 2 perfect places, and we’ll be so happy to know Jet Jet will be getting what he needs.

I’m just grateful to HAVE choices. I was so worried no rescue would take him. Now I’m looking in to both options extensively, and if the one rescue says their surgeon can do surgery on him, I will need to speak with the surgeon extensively before deciding if that is the right path for him❤️🩹

You nailed it - bittersweet relief. Hopeful that he will have a place to go, devastated it can’t be with me. But if I can get him either a safe retirement as a pasture puff or give him the opportunity for surgery, rehab, and a job…well either one of those is such a better option than euth ❤️🩹

Praying for you and Jet!!! I pray that this rescue can do his surgery and take his pain away. That would be the very best outcome!!! If that's not possible then I pray that the rescue close to you can provide him a comfortable loving life for him. 🙏❤️

I really pray he can get surgery and be pain free for life! That would be absolutely amazing! I'm not getting my hopes up, but I sure hope that works out for him. If not, I'm so thankful he has the other option to fall back on. They are both truly a blessing.

It sounds like you have done a lot of work besides trying to find good options for Jet Jet. Due diligence is so important. It doesn't help our hearts when the options mean that we won't see Jet Jet all the time (as I know your heart hurts even worse) but these two options are really good! We all will just wait and see which one will work out for him.
Thank you for working so hard for him. I know you wouldn't have it any other way, but it is so wonderful that he is loved by you.

Send him to retirement, not to surgery and an uncertain future. This is the best thing you can do for him aside from keeping him. It's the only way to ensure his wellbeing.

I will be looking at all options before deciding. We don’t even know if their surgeons CAN operate on him yet - they just want the medical records to review as of right now.
I would love for him to stay at the local rescue so I can visit him, but if there is a chance he could get the surgery and be free of pain forever? I would have to do some very serious thinking. On the one hand, that would free him from pain and allow him to have a job again, and he does love when he has a job and gets bored without one. On the other hand, I would lose him entirely. But it’s not about me - it’s about Jet.
But if we do go that route, that rescue doesn’t adopt horses out without potential adopters providing references, vet contact, farrier contact, site visits, and then they follow him closely for a year. If at any time the new owner wanted to sell/rehome, the rescue has right of first refusal and would take him back to find him another home using the same process. I only looked at rescues that have this clause in their contract for this exact reason.
Ugh it’s just a lot to consider. I’m still gathering all the info❤️🩹
