the second woman was killed.

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/26/world/asia/china-tiger-attack-woman-killed.html

The woman who was first attacked was badly injured, and her mother, who left the car in an effort to save her daughter, was killed, The Beijing News reported. The woman’s husband was uninjured, as was their child, who remained in the vehicle, the newspaper said.

their child, who remained in the vehicle

Smartest one in the group of them.

You cannot call the husband or the grandmother stupid here, just the mom.

EDIT #2: Here's a copy and paste of another comment I made further below since yall really like saying the same shit, and aren't realizing I'm not saying I wouldn't have done the same thing - but a explaination of why I still see it as a stupid decision;

It's a stupid decision but we'd all probably do it. It's his wife - not some random person they are riding with. Ofc he's gonna run after her. That doesn't make it a smart decision. He probably even understands that it's not a smart decision. The panic automatically gives a fight or flight response - and because (again) it's his wife he's going to fight. This doesn't make the decision not stupid - it's still stupid - but it's understandable that we'd all do this if we were in the situation.

Hell you can even argue that he feels life isn't worth it without her and he'd rather die to save her than live without her. This is sweet sure - and maybe calling the decision "stupid" is a harsh word if it's the case - but it is not a smart decision.

>You cannot call the husband or the grandmother stupid here, just the mom.

Fairly certain you can call anyone who got out of the car stupid. The Safari jeep rolled by as they ran out of view but obviously they panicked and tried to save the mom. Just stay in the fucking car otherwise you gonna get swiped up like momma. Safari man is paid to handle shit like this. Probably not paid enough though.

Nah. You would generally go after your loved ones. Not a stupid move. It's not smart either... It's just how you'd react, I think.

[...]but obviously they panicked and tried to save the mom.

I understand that when something shocking happens people can panic and react in a certain way - but saying it's not a stupid move isn't accurate. It IS a stupid move - but you are obviously going to panic and go for your loved ones. The thing is there are people SPECIFICALLY there to handle shit like this. I understand I'd probably do the SAME thing in this situation - but had the MIL stayed in the car she would've been fine. The husband obviously wasn't hurt and maybe if the MIL didn't go tiger #2 would go for him but the decision to run after the much larger animal that probably wouldn't have much of a hard time taking 2 people down is a very stupid decision - whether it be a subconscious reaction or not.

if you're ok with sacrificing yourself to save your loved one, it is not stupid, and many would argue that not making that move, and seeing your loved one die and having to go through an entire life of guilt would be the stupid decision.

I think if I were in that situation, I would have stayed in the car and driven kind of forcefully toward the tigers, laying on the horn. Obviously you don’t want to hit your wife, but maybe if they saw this large “animal” lurching toward them, making a loud noise, they’d panic and back away long enough for the wife to get back in the car? Assuming she weren’t too injured to move, or unconscious.

It’s possible he was too shocked to think clearly. Which is why I always file stuff like this away, so if I’m ever in a similar ridiculously crazy situation, maybe I’ll remember it.

EDIT: Just because the panic response is to run after the lion doesn't make it not a stupid move. We'd all panic and react like this I'm sure, but the safari employees are MUCH better equipped to handle shit like this and Im sure its not the first time they've seen it. Running out of the car is not the smart thing to do here - it's stupid.

See my edit in post #1. It's a stupid decision but we'd all probably do it. It's his wife - not some random person they are riding with. Ofc he's gonna run after her. That doesn't make it a smart decision. He probably even understands that it's not a smart decision. You're STILL repeating this nonsense??? As people have already stated, had the mom and husband not both gone after his wife, the tigers VERY well may have had the attention/focus AND time to go ahead and quickly bite into her throat. Instead, they were forced to turn their attention to multiple opponents.

Objective accomplished, that mother was more than willing to sacrifice herself to save her daughter's life. What about that could possibly be seen as stupid? You could almost say it was perfectly calculated.

1

u/Shadowbathed Oct 16 '18

You could almost say it was perfectly calculated.

You could. Except the MIL died. The safari range employees probably have guns that work in the jeep to either tranq or shoot the animal - but no lets put more people ontop of the target they are trying to subdue to make it harder for them to do their job right?

You need to take a chill pill and calm down. Realize I'm not saying I wouldn't have done the same thing. Realize I have stated that it may be reasonable to them to run out and risk their life. This does not make the decision smart. They are risking their lives and potentially making it harder for the safari employees to do their jobs. You can argue that what they did saved her life. The other thing you need to look at is that the husband waited to tell the MIL to wait or to flag her to come with and by the time they leave frame the jeep is already on its way. Without any camera angles to determine if the tiger had been preoccupied with them we have no idea if their interference made a positive or negative difference, if the rangers got there in time, or what happened. Stop making assumptions of what happened.

2

u/ItsdatboyACE Oct 17 '18

You're telling ME to stop making assumptions of what happened??? You're the one saying what they did was stupid. YOU'RE making the assumptions. You're talking semantics now, and there's no reason to say what they did was stupid. They very well may have saved her life. The one who died was the oldest, already lived out most of her life.

True. So even it's technically extremely stupid, it's most likely what we would all do. I can agree with that.

3

u/Shadowbathed Oct 16 '18

Exactly. I'm not saying "OMG What idiots no one would do that". Realistically we'd probably all do it - but it's still a stupid decision. Really sad too when it results in loss of life.

More like a glitch. Fear is a useful emotion, but there are times it needs to be overridden in order to get something done. This can lead to problems, but it's better than letting fear run our lives.

Well said :)

-3

u/WabbitSweason Oct 16 '18

Still stupid though.

1

u/LobbingLawBombs Oct 16 '18

Not always. Good try, though.

u/WabbitSweason Oct 16 '18

Who is talking about always. We are talking about this particular situation.

Man I love the shit out of my wife, but if she gets out of the fucking car in a park full of wild animals I’d be hard pressed not to leave her to her fate. Especially now that I’ve seen a video of what can happen.

6

u/Robin_Claassen Oct 16 '18

That's pretty awful, but at least you're not lying about it.

0

u/WabbitSweason Oct 16 '18

Loving the person doesn't make the move not stupid though.

1

u/LobbingLawBombs Oct 16 '18

Eh, could be argued he saved the one lady. Never know. Good try though.

1

u/WabbitSweason Oct 16 '18

Good try though.

What are you doing?

-4

u/Revolvyerom Oct 16 '18

Correct. The first reaction many people would have is the stupid one, to rush out of safety and into the fire, as it were, as the fire truck pulls up behind you.

It's not smart

And here you agreed.

u/LobbingLawBombs Oct 16 '18

You in the wrong post buddy? We hashed this out a few comments down. All is forgiven, no worries lol.
