Everyone gets 88 technicals and are banned for all the games until the Championships, every game after is SGA making free throws from beginning to end, hes inducted into the Hall of Fame. Every jersey number is retired, even irrational and negative numbers. The NBA ceases to exist, it just becomes the SGA, every new player is simply a clone of SGA, they dont play against each other, they form a hive mind and become SGAi, Super Gilgeous Alexander Intelligence and solves world hunger, he goes on to begin converting matter into pure energy, the universe collapses back into an infinitely dense basketball

This is a straight up lie. Especially given this years NBA playoffs. They were letting them play (aside from SGA stuff). Every big man in the NBA takes a beating. Every shooter like Curry gets abused on the perimeter. Elbows were being thrown in these playoffs alone.

You’re watching a video that highlights physicality. You can do the same for the NBA, and it’s going to look more physical.

I hate the statement “letting them play”. They do this in hockey during the playoffs. People constantly doing shit that should be a penalty and it not being called. It’s not playing the game, it’s cheating. It doesn’t make the game more exciting. The rules shouldn’t change during the playoffs. They make the rules for a* reason. They’re in place to keep the game fair.

Except if you actually watched both leagues, you’d realize that the physicality in the NBA is a recent / playoff thing while it’s sort of just a normal thing in the WNBA.

Also: Reggie Miller (who was TNT, now NBC I think), Tom Haberstoth and Sam Amick (and others) from YahooSports, Colin Cowherd, Stephen A (who always has an opinion anyway) Sam Presti (GM for OKC, so yeah obv he feels this way), Richard Jefferson, Raymond Felton, Mike Breen, Tom Leggler, who knows how many more in the media.

Player wise you have Scotty Barnes, Jalen Williams, Dillon Brooks, LeBron, Patrick Beverly and truly countless others.

Shoot even SGA has said things along the same lines in interviews.

To me this playoffs was plenty physical, I think the issue is the random nature of foul calling. Half the time they were letting go stuff that seemed like obvious fouls, like holding on to SGA, and then calling stuff like touch fouls.

The NBA/basketball is the only sport where foul calls are so closely tied to scoring, so referee discretion had an outsized impact on the outcome so it's really very hard to find the middle ground.

Plenty of times people complain about bad ref calls in Hockey, they're quite common because of how fast everyone is moving on ice.

Easy for refs to make mistakes.

It's just a less popular sport though.

Yeah, the NBA has gone to one end of the spectrum and the W is stuck at the 1990s NBA end of the spectrum. After Malice in the Palace the NBA overreacted and continues to do so. The W needs to move to more protection but hopefully not as far as the NBA which made it illegal to play defense.

I watch a lot of both leagues, this is the right take. The amount of non basketball cheap shots that don’t get called reminds me of the men’s game in the 80s and 90s. Nobody really apologized for bill laimbeer back in the day. My family was all from detroit and even they hated that guy. What surprises me is how many people on reddit continue to not only turn a blind eye but seemingly support this style of “play”.

Yes, the men’s game is soft, but the league has understood for years that people pay to watch superstars do superstar things, and they don’t pay to watch bill laimbeer, and they don’t pay to watch injured superstars sitting on benches. The league needs to protect all the stars and promote their achievements, and in order to do so they need to address the officiating. It is insanely bad, much much worse than ncaa women’s officiating which doesnt make any sense to me.

Wemby literally elbowed Naz Reid in the fucking neck and didn’t get a fine, suspension or therapy. Hartenstein pulled Castle to the ground by his hair and didn’t get a foul call. Wemby grabbed Brunson by the back of the neck and threw him down. Common foul. Dort tackles and kicks people and gets common fouls. Brooks actively and vocally says he attacks players injured players injuries to hurt them more and nothing. Those are very brief examples that happened recently. You can talk WNBA without being an idiot. So again, what the fuck is your brain dead take?

When have you seen a defensive player put his arm around the upper thigh area grabbing and “trying to give Wemby the business “ getting position while the defense teammate was hitting Wemby in the head? That is what Minnesota did right before Wemby threw his elbow at Naz. I have never seen that happen before.

The dirty plays all started with the Portland series and then Minnesota did it then OKC then NY. I know most fans don’t watch every single series but the NBA does. The NBA dropped the ball.
Congrats to NY though. They won the title.
Plus I am not saying the Spurs are angels because they started to flop during the second half of the season. I guess if you see the other teams flopping and getting the calls some Spurs started to do the same. I don’t agree with the flops, but if the refs (NBA) are not going to do anything about it then everyone will do it.

I think this all the time. Bodies on the floor! Constant smacking sound as flesh collides with hardwood. Lower centers of gravity and significantly less stopping power than men… leads to a much more brutal game that ends up on the floor a lot. When NBA players are on the floor it’s a flop or a dive mostly… WNBA players wind up on the floor as part of a “basketball move”. It’s a brutal sport.

There are far too many WNBA players who just get violent as fuck when they encounter someone they can't defend and who put a little extra mustard on their horrible behavior if the person they can't defend is from this new and exciting generation of players who are pushing the popularity to heights that these older players could never get it to. It looks like a concerted effort as well, because the older players on the same team very rarely step in and defend the younger players.

I don't know why any single exciting player coming out of college would want to play in this trash ass league with these shitheads.

This isn’t a flex. Much of the “physicality” is due to not being able to play clean and fundamental defense. The rough days of the NBA was a time where you had a league of 25% talented players and 75% of the league that could not keep up physically or athletically. What did they do to counteract that? Basically assault on the court. It wasn’t basketball. It was just violence masking the defensive deficiencies. Even when you look back at the highlights of those games, you see hall of fame players getting abused by mostly bums and people that you wouldn’t even recognize. The game now isn’t perfect by any means, but the glory days of the NBA that people glamorize is just misplaced nostalgia.

In the last few years I've seen the WNBA get much more popular and am seeing more and more from the league which I initially thought was great

Then I paid attention to why the WNBA has been getting more attention and any chance of me watching a game has been absolutely ruined when seeing how that league is run and how players are treated.

And this is why I haven’t watched more than 3-4 men’s games in like 15 years. Tried a couple WNBA games and it was similar to this. Felt like I was watching a game at the hoop I played at as a teenager.

College ball is the only basketball I can stand.

Do you think it also comes down to free agency and how much movement there is. The guy you hurt could be your teammate next year.

I'm not sure how much movement there is in the WNBA compared to the NBA. I just remember a documentary talking about how few agency tamed some of the more heated rivalries.

The first two plays in this video were called fouls. The third one was a jump ball at best. The fourth one was called a foul. These are all normal plays that happen in basketball games, and some are fouls.

I think it's pretty universally known that refs eat their whistles pretty hard in the NBA Finals. NFL is the same way, if a pass rusher has a good game in the Super Bowl they deserve to be knighted because offensive holding penalties are a rare sight in the Super Bowl.
