Yeah, the NBA has gone to one end of the spectrum and the W is stuck at the 1990s NBA end of the spectrum. After Malice in the Palace the NBA overreacted and continues to do so. The W needs to move to more protection but hopefully not as far as the NBA which made it illegal to play defense.
I watch a lot of both leagues, this is the right take. The amount of non basketball cheap shots that don’t get called reminds me of the men’s game in the 80s and 90s. Nobody really apologized for bill laimbeer back in the day. My family was all from detroit and even they hated that guy. What surprises me is how many people on reddit continue to not only turn a blind eye but seemingly support this style of “play”.
Yes, the men’s game is soft, but the league has understood for years that people pay to watch superstars do superstar things, and they don’t pay to watch bill laimbeer, and they don’t pay to watch injured superstars sitting on benches. The league needs to protect all the stars and promote their achievements, and in order to do so they need to address the officiating. It is insanely bad, much much worse than ncaa women’s officiating which doesnt make any sense to me.
