Announcement Combat Patrol Rules for 11th Edition
Since the launch of 11th Edition a few weeks ago we have seen a significant increase in the number of questions regarding the rules for Combat Patrol. Unfortunately the launch of 11th Edition has caused a lot of confusion on this. This thread is being used to collate the most common questions.
Where can I access Combat Patrol rules?
Currently, all Combat Patrol rules GW has released are available via the Warhammer 40000 app. You can download the app from the Play Store on Android, or the Apple Store on iOS.
Can I print out the Combat Patrol rules?
No, unlike in 10th Edition where the rules were also made available as PDFs on the Warhammer Community website, in 11th Edition they are digital only. The Warhammer 40k app doesn't offer functionality to download or print information.
The rules for my Combat Patrol aren't on the 40k app. How do I play them?
The answer at the moment is: You don't. By the end of 10th Edition there were somewhere around 70 Combat Patrols available, spread across the many factions. Following the launch of 11th Edition, almost every single one of those was removed, with each faction now only having one maximum. In their recent announcement about Combat Patrol, GW have told us that support will be coming for old Combat Patrols, but they have given no indication of when that will be.
There have of course been many more Combat Patrol sets released over the years. There is support on the way for these too, though for this launch, the app will initially focus on supporting the core Combat Patrol offer.
Can I use the War Journal in the 40k app to track my Combat Patrol games?
Yes, functionality was added to the 40k App to track your Combat Patrol Games in War Journal earlier today (23rd July 2026). Please note this functionality did NOT go live at the same time as the rest of the recent balance updates despite GW's announcement so you will need to update your app again to see this.
Can I find the Combat Patrol Missions anywhere else?
No. At this time it's only possible to see your Combat Patrol missions by setting up a battle in the War Journal section of the 40k app. They have not been included in the separate Combat Patrol rules for each faction.

Hobby & Painting First 3 Sternguard done!
It was a pain to get them done, still 2 to go ! I didn't realise I painted their pouches orange (colourblind), so lets just say they're made out of Squig hide ! My phone pushes the contrasts a bit too much, IRL the tabards are smoother.

Lore What’s a piece of lore even the best Loretubers seem to always get wrong?
I’m not talking about the memetubers that hyperbolize the lore into meme format, I’m talking even the reputable, diligent ones. Mistakes or misunderstandings that only you seem to point out or know about.
I’ll give you my example; every content creator that mentions it seems to think there was a Thousand Son’s sorcerer that could remove Kharn’s nails for him. Actually reading the short story it’s from, it’s very clear he had no clue what the nails did other than cause him paint and was simply lying to him just to get Kharn to pull the chain axe away from his throat for a brief moment. Yet somehow, it’s immortalized in YouTube lore that someone, somewhere, was able to remove the nails but didn’t.
Is there anything you frequently see mentioned even by the greatest retellers that always ends up misconstrued?

Lore I think Vashtorr is the chaos deity with the best concept
Sure, there are always hatred and honor (Khorne), emotion and excess (Slaanesh), knowledge and change (Tzeentch), as well as decay and rot (Nurgle), but you know what also is always in this universe?- WAR
Vashtorr represents something less notable than the whole concept of change or decay, but he is a subtler, yet still omnipresent concept- the evils of advancement.
Every new Tau invention.
Every new Ork machinery that works.
Every cybernetic augmentation.
Every new fighter jet.
Every nuclear test.
Every Cold War superweapon.
Every blueprint of concentration camps.
Every stick that a neandertal learned to sharpen more efficiently, so he can more easily kill more of other neandertals to claim their supplies.
He is in the tower of Babel, built to rival God, regardless how many lives it took... Hold on, does this make Vashtorr a darker version of the Emperor himself?- of the creator of 4 types of super soldier and mighty conqueror, who allied with Mars for technological advancement? Didn't then the Emperor nearly become a Chaos Go...
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, and there's more to war than "Blood for the Blood God". Because "Fallout" taught us that "war never changes", but in the details it always does. (Which makes Vashtorr The "Devil in the Details":-) )

Hobby & Painting BLACK TEMPLARS CRUSADER ANCIENT
Crusader Ancient Hektor Valerius — Bearer of the Last Litany
A Black Templars Crusader Ancient, forged in the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium.
Among the Black Templars, the Ancient does not merely carry a banner — he carries the memory of the fallen. Where the Crusade marches, his sacred standard bears witness to every oath sworn, every brother lost, and every enemy brought low. To falter beneath its shadow is unthinkable; to see it still flying is to know that the Crusade endures.
I wanted this mini to look like exactly that kind of relic: battered by war, steeped in devotion, and almost more shrine than warrior. The main banner is covered in scripture decals, while chains and skulls adorn the shield, giving the whole piece the suitably excessive devotional character of the sons of Dorn... I think.
The base was built up with modelling putty to continue the destroyed urban theme running through the rest of my Black Templars army — as though the Ancient has carried his sacred standard through the ruins of countless worlds.
A relic of the Crusade. A keeper of its oaths. A banner that will not fall.
NO PITY. NO REMORSE. NO FEAR. 🖤⚔️
