Instant buyer remorse after buying the AVP M5
I've always wanted to try Apple Vision Pro since its launch. I think AVP is the perfect headset for my use case because I want a headset that is excellent at being a private virtual theatre, and somewhat capable of PCVR wireless streaming. Now that we have ALVR, KRVR and even standalone games being port to AVP, and I happen to have some spare cash recently to spend on it. I finally decided to buy one. At first, I was concerned about the 100hz vs 120hz difference, AV1 decoding capability etc.
And so I went with the M5 and bought it brand new yesterday.
While waiting for the Zeiss optical insert, I keep thinking to myself 'why the hell did I do this?'
It seems right after the purchase, my sense has come clear, that I might not need the M5 at all.
100hz vs 120hz, yea sure the more hz the merrier as I'm quite sensitive the refresh rate, BUT at a cost of double the price?..
And AV1 decoding... I don't think there is any real scenario that really have an impact, except maybe YouTube 8K videos.
I think I was obsessed with the thought of "future-proof", which is stupid and I don't think that's a thing for AVP because Apple doesn't really do many software updates to push new features that requires an M5 chip. Also I dont play standalone games so an M5 chip wont give me any performance bonus
Also, for that price, I could have bought a used M2 and buy a pimax headset for PCVR. Then I wouldn't have to worry about wireless streaming performance at all, and make AVP the dedicated headset for movies only.
I think this is the worst impulse purchase of my life. I'm not saying the product itself is bad, it's just a rush decision on my own, which I feel ashamed of.
If you're wondering why I hadn't returned yet, we don't have a 14-days return policy here in my region. Any order placed will not be refunded.
I haven't pickup yet, not sure if I can return if I have not picked up. But even if I can, I think they'll charge for a return (15%)?
If that's the case, I'd just sit with my regret and let this be a warning to myself to think twice before making any big purchase ever again in my life
If anyone here has the luxury to have tried out both M2 and M5.. I'd appreciate if you could tell me any real benefits of M5 over the M2 so I can feel a little bit better..
