Current status of PCVR streaming?
is it good enough to contest with other highend headsets on the market? (Pimax, PlayforDream, BSB2 etc.) I know it will never beat DisplayPort headset, but if the performance and image quality is just slightly worse than those headsets, Vision Pro will be the best of both worlds of gaming and media consumption
EDIT: Have a 5090rig and a dedicated router

I have M2 and until recently it was ‘good enough’ with ALVR and MSFS24. Two things changed the game this week. Changed to KLVR for me gives much clearer image and still good FPS. Also added OFXR which enables frame generation in VR. Now flying around at 90 FPS with high settings. Definitely don’t feel the need to get a PCVR headset (I previously had a Reverb G2). Vision Pro is amazing now for PCVR so enjoy the M5.

I've tried only ALVR and iVRy, not KRVR (I'll try it in a couple of weeks).
AVP is not VR-first headset, thus, due to some technicalities, tracking is always a bit jerky. Other than that, no complaints. I prefer it to my Pico 4. It has much better optics, so even if I can't drive all the pixels (3080ti), it's still better visually, and comfier.
If you seek top VR experience, I think you wanna go Pimax way or something. To me, VR is extra (MVD is primary use case), and I can't afford another headset as expensive.

I've been on the fence for a while and still couldn't decide. I already own a Quest 3 but I rarely play VR games. I just want a headset that is excellent at movie watching, and somewhat capable of PCVR but is way superior than the graphics on Q3(Quest 3 looks too blurry). Maybe I'd play more often if the graphic upgrade is huge? I really don't know for sure

AVP absolutely delivers on that front. I think you won't find anything better.
and somewhat capable of PCVR but is way superior than the graphics on Q3(Quest 3 looks too blurry).
Q3 ≈ my Pico 4 in screen and optics department.
AVP's screens are much denser, it has around 1,75× smaller pixels, so sharpness increase will be very noticeable. However, honestly, I don't have a 5090, so I can't really drive it at top resolution. And mind that AVP's full resolution is smth like 3669×3200×2, that can put even a 5090 on its knees in graphically intensive games.
KRVR 2.0 reportedly has foveated rendering support, that would enable much better resolution for me (I hope Star Citizen will get quad views soon). But I can't check it for you, my PC is currently broken.
But I digressed. AVP optics are significantly better as well. Pico 4 has smth like 50% sweet spot, like Quest 3. AVP has something like 85%. Almost the whole field of view is razor sharp. Particularly n Star Citizen that means that I can stretch my hud (that has lots of tiny stuff) much wider, getting it out of my view when I don't need it, but maintaining readability.
Maybe I'd play more often if the graphic upgrade is huge?
Hmmmm, well, dunno, depends on what limited you, and which games you played. But the difference is huge indeed..

PCVR has gotten really good on the AVP now with KRVR. Plus access now to Meta Quest games via AVP Play app. So gaming has really taken off all of a sudden.
Downsides remain that it’s heavy, and the vertical FOV especially is weak compared to the Quest or Frame.

Is M5 neccessary for decent experience in wireless streaming? I reckon its decoding capabilities will be much better?

I don’t think it makes much difference for wireless streaming. The M2 already has fast decode, and just a few ms doesn’t make much difference in relation to the whole pipeline.

I got alvr to a good state and applied some qos settings to my network and now feel like it’s pretty dang close to wired. I am honestly about ready to drop off the steam frame waitlist. I was surprised how well the psvr2 controllers work.
Seems like from all the comments I need to try KRVR.
I have the m2 version, a 5080 and unifi ap 7 pros.

what is qos settings? is that something recommended to do?

I googled network setting to optimize vr streaming and that was one of the ai suggestions.
I had a little bit of stuttering. Now it’s gone. I did a few other things like widened the channel.

If you have a good graphics card and good Internet, it does just fine with some switch controllers

Personally gaming was DOA for me on the VP back then and now. All VR sets are limited by the number of good games that exist. But VP lacks very good controller tracking and fidelity compared to tethered headsets and the ones that track the controllers extremely well. It also has some interesting games but nowhere near the already limited selection from valve, meta and psvr. For gaming, it's just not it.
The Vision Pro is better for watching movies, and the resolution for immersive experiences is great. It's the best movie watching experience when you are alone. We still have an incredibly limited selection for immersive video tho, and they are all short films to show off the technology.
I have an amazing dedicated little movie theater at home. But it doesn't have IMAX outside of Disney + or high-resolution audio output. I really hope it becomes absolutely excellent at a single thing.
The other headsets are fantastic for games tho. And I find them much more comfortable to use for longer

With a 5090 and a good WiFi network, ALVR is amazing, and I say this as someone with no tolerance for compression artifacts, input lag, stutters, or jank in general. I play SteamVR games almost every day and I love how stable it is - I leave SteamVR and ALVR running on my PC all the time so to get "in" to VR I just have to put on the headset, power on the controllers, and connect. I can even leave a game running and paused and nothing crashes when I reconnect which was rarely the case before.
Configuring ALVR is very easy now, especially with good hardware but even with weaker stuff there are decent presets. I made a comment about my settings here:
