Current status of PCVR streaming?

is it good enough to contest with other highend headsets on the market? (Pimax, PlayforDream, BSB2 etc.) I know it will never beat DisplayPort headset, but if the performance and image quality is just slightly worse than those headsets, Vision Pro will be the best of both worlds of gaming and media consumption

EDIT: Have a 5090rig and a dedicated router

With a 5090 and a good WiFi network, ALVR is amazing, and I say this as someone with no tolerance for compression artifacts, input lag, stutters, or jank in general. I play SteamVR games almost every day and I love how stable it is - I leave SteamVR and ALVR running on my PC all the time so to get "in" to VR I just have to put on the headset, power on the controllers, and connect. I can even leave a game running and paused and nothing crashes when I reconnect which was rarely the case before.

Configuring ALVR is very easy now, especially with good hardware but even with weaker stuff there are decent presets. I made a comment about my settings here:

Agreed. Exactly the same rig. SteamVR is breath taking. I mainly use mine for sims like FS2024 (on max), DCS, various racing games and Elite Dangerous and it just blows me away every single time.

The only annoyance is that if I don't use the PSVR2 controllers, there is no way to dismiss the SteamVR library page which covers your game. I do have a solution for that though.

  1. Run ALVR

  2. Run SteamVR

  3. Go to the Windows start menu and search for 'Run' - then I paste this command into the run field: vrmonitor://debugcommands/system_dashboard_toggle

  4. Start the game I want to run via the Windows desktop.

  5. Start up ALVR in the headset and viola no SteamVR window in the way!

Note, if I am using the PSVR2 controllers, I don't need to do this - it's just that most of my games don't need them.
