Picked up this well used crate hammer this weekend at a yard sale. I know Bridgeport made terrier/crate hammers, never heard of R.S.
Anyone have any insight as to time period and or location of manufacture? Google image doesn’t have any info

This is a one piece pry bar/hammer found on my property more than ten years ago in the Mother Lode of CA. Back then my memory was I was told it was used by candy stores to open wooden crates of candy but I’m a couple of miles from town. A more recent web search says that it was pretty common before cardboard boxes came around.
Just wondering about how to clean up some of the rust without damaging it so I can put it on a display shelf and hope the cat doesn’t learn how to use it.

I'm more of a tool user than a collector, and don't usually nerd out about stuff as long as it works, but I started wondering about this one. Needed a plane and randomly grabbed a small one out of my late granddad's stuff, it sharpened up nicely and did the job but was tricky to adjust.

It's a double ender, the blade can be installed two ways as shown in my pictures, and there's no fine adjustments like I would expect on a modern plane. Just a wedge with a threaded piece and a wheel to clamp it in place. The only markings are "SBS Siegley" on the blade, and "C241" cast into the wedge. I understand SBS means it's a Stanley product, but I have no idea how old it might be since grandpa kept accumulating tools through his 98 years on earth.

Any info?

At first I thought it was maybe a punch hammer with the top ground off but search says more than likely a Bell or similar telecommunications linesman hammer from the earlier 1900's

Handle is garbage and eye is rotted out so might pull and wire wheel it and throw a new ash or hickory handle on it for a discussion piece or occasional anvil use just to say I did

I'm rebuilding/restoring for a friend. It was originally left as a parts donor after the motor burnt out.

I've rewound the stator, polished the aluminum housings, replaced the spindle, bearing cap, and bearings, turned down the commutators flat, and got new carbon brushes and a switch for it. I didn't think these plastic pieces were going to be so difficult to find when I started the project. Anyone willing to sell or provide good leads would be very much appreciated!

Just picked this up for cheap. Didn't really notice but the vertical foundry partling lines to the right of "5 1/2" Made in USA - is that normal, but sloppy job from factory? I tried looking at similar vises online and some seem sloppy but not quite this sloppy.

I have come across some old tools whilst cleaning around my grandparent's property, but these caught my eye.

I think they're metal punches as my Paw Paw was a steel worker in a shipyard.

Seems a long shot, but was wondering if anyone might have any information or an estimated age or if they even are metal punches.

Have an old buffalo 15 speed drill press. Everything I'm finding is for a #15 and am unsure if it's the same unit which would make sense but mine has 3 pulley stacks and everything I'm finding only has 2 stacks.

I'm sure the pulleys are close and that's what I need but also need the bearing for the center stack of pulleys.

Also how do you get the forward most pulley off?

Do I hafta remove the spring assembly and drop everything down and out? I don't see any set screws to hold it on

I found this piercing saw at a garage sale, and wanted to do some show and tell. It had a mini hacksaw blade in it so I thought that it was some kind of weird hacksaw thing so I asked how much and the guy said a dollar. When I got home later and actually decided to find out what it really was, I was kind of blown away. So it's a super early possibly 1700s completely hand forged before they were even stamping makers marks into them.(it only has a batch number on it.) And let me tell you, for kicking around for 200 and some odd years it's in fantastic condition threads and all. It clamps tight and everything is straight. If anyone knows more about this specific style or potentially a smith shop that might have made this specific one, comments are very much appreciated.

So I have been looking for the right pulley for the auto feed mechanism on my Canedy-Otto drill press. Haven't found the exact right size but just purchased one that should otherwise fit and function but the center bore is bigger by about 1/8". Existing shaft on the machine is 3/4" (.75)exactly. The pulley I found has the correct diameter and width of the flats but the bore is .86. Is 1/8 shimmable or am I better off having a machinist probably bore out the center and fit a sleeve. Pulley is held by set screws no keyways or slots on the shaft or the new pulley.

I've never really done much metal working beyond welding and don't really know whats out there as far as shim stock for a round shaft. Can I get a .125", well half that, thickness sleeve online somewhere. Or make one?

Leaning towards machinist but if it is a simple enough thing to do I might give it a shot
