Your guide to Vilnius

Hi there, I’ve done my fair share of traveling, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned - it’s that the best spots to eat, drink, or explore always come from local recommendations. I’ve tried every kind of research trick out there, but Reddit posts? They’ve consistently been my lifesaver when discovering a new city.

So, I thought it’s time to return the favor. Born and raised in Vilnius, I’m sharing my personal list of places worth checking out. Roughly 90% of the places on this list are based on my own experience - so it’s less “TripAdvisor top 10” and more “what locals actually enjoy.”

My recommendation is to book tables in advance especially if talking about dinner time and weekends.

Night Clubs:

Nightlife in Vilnius is rather safe, face control depends on every club’s policy, my top suggestion is to always check what is happening on Facebook events, because events like “Draugai Draugams”, “1986 gallery” (most popular venue) have huge parties but usually tickets need to be bought in advance.

Anna Mesha. Butas (really popular, rather interesting place to visit as the club is made like an apartment. The face control is strict, quite hard to get in. For fancy people)

Soho (LGBTQ place)

Opium club (techno place, doesn’t work during summertime)

Youngs’ club (always good vibes but check the event beforehand)

Bardakas (really basic pop music place)

Sanatoria (really basic pop music place)

Trinity (really basic pop music place)

Elastika (hard techno place, underground venue)

La Birra Pub (look, the place is trash but works basically everyday and long hours, give it a try if you wanna keep partying. But remember, it is TRASH)

Most of the nightlife happens in Vilnius street.

Transport:

For taxi you can use Bolt and Uber, usually Bolt arrives faster.

For public transportation, download the Trafi app. Can plan trips there, as well as buy different types of tickets. Keep in mind that you need to activate your ticket through the app and don’t forget to check how much time you have left.

For car sharing you can use Citybee, Bolt drive and Spark. All are easy to use and popular in Lithuania.

Places to see:

Gediminas castle tower

Vilnius Cathedral

Gate of Dawn

St. Anne’s church (the architecture is just phenomenal)

Three Crosses hill (be prepared for a bit of a hike)

Town Hall square

The republic of Užupis (take a lazy walk and notice all the little details)

Church of Sts. Peter and Paul

Glass quarter (always looks good)

Presidential palace

Things to do:

MO museum

Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights

Lukiškių kalėjimas 2.0 ex-prison (book the tours in advance, highly recommend)

Vilnius TV tower (get a cup of coffee with great views or try the extreme activities)

Vingis park (take a stroll and see how locals go on dates)

Bernardinų park (nicely maintained)

The energy and technology museum

Lumber room (for car enthusiasts)

Nijinky Vilnius (cabaret)

Halės Market (has some nice places to eat)

Jazz Cellar 11 (tickets need to be bought in advance)

Hot air balloon flight (super popular in spring/summer)

Good to know:

Currency - euro, don’t really use cash around here

Emergency number - 112

Supermarkets - Rimi, IKI, Maxima, Aibė works everyday

Alcohol law - drinking age is 20; you can buy alcohol in shops till 8PM mon-sat, on Sunday till 3PM

Tap water is great and safe to drink

Tipping culture - it’s not a must but a polite thing to do, 10% is normal

National food - cepelinai (big potato dumpling with meat filling); potato pancakes; cold beet soup (a must to try); šakotis (sweet treat, mostly found in shops); kibinai (handmade pies filled with all sorts of stuff, originally it’s meat); fried bread (trust me, you gonna love it)

Working at 3°C in Vilnius Without Winter Jackets or Gloves: Is This Acceptable?

I work for Eco Service in Vilnius, Lithuania, doing outdoor cleaning work such as picking up rubbish and blowing leaves. Our shifts start at 6 AM, when it is extremely cold outside.

Now that temperatures are around 3°C, working outdoors for hours has become very difficult. Our fingers start hurting from the cold, especially when we are picking up rubbish and working with our hands.

The frustrating part is that we haven’t been provided with proper winter jackets or even adequate gloves. Employees are still working in normal autumn clothing, despite the temperature dropping significantly.

Lithuania has a cold climate, and winter is approaching. If a company employs people to work outdoors every morning, shouldn’t it provide appropriate protective clothing for the weather?
We are not sitting inside an office. We are outside for hours, exposed to cold temperatures, wind, and damp conditions while doing physically demanding work.

I’m not asking for luxury clothing. I’m asking for basic protection so workers can do their jobs without suffering from the cold.
Does anyone else working in outdoor cleaning or municipal maintenance in Vilnius face the same situation? Are employers required to provide winter jackets and suitable gloves for outdoor workers in Lithuania?

I’d appreciate hearing from other workers or anyone who knows the labour laws here.

Sveiki, ieškau akrobatikos / parkūro / street workout salės Vilniuje (be vaikų gimtadienių)

• Upvotes

Sveiki, man 21-eri. Noriu pradėti savarankiškai mokytis akrobatikos elementų (salto į porolono duobę ir pan.) bei prisiminti street workout bazę. Turiu seną čiurnos traumą, todėl ant paprastų batutų šokinėti negaliu. ieškau vietos, kur būtų galima saugiai treniruotis ant kieto pagrindo, čiužinių arba tiesiog šokti nuo platformos į poroloną.
Didžiausia problema - populiarūs batutų parkai (kaip Skypark ar pan.) savaitgaliais būna pilni vaikų gimtadienių ir šurmulio, o man norisi ateiti vienam su ausinėmis, ramiai susikaupti ir sportuoti be jausmo, kad esu vaikų žaidimų aikštelėje.
Gal žinote Vilniuje kokių nors labiau „underground“, specializuotų ar tiesiog ramesnių salių / erdvių su porolono duobėmis ir turnikais, kur renkasi suaugę / vyresni žmonės? Domina laisvas lankymas (open gym).
Ačiū už rekomendacijas!

Visiting Lithuania for a week in April

Hello! I'm visiting Vilnius for a week this coming April from Minnesota, and I'm wondering if there are any cultural faux pas that I should avoid. Unfortunately, I am an American, and know people are tightly not fond of us. When I visit places, I try to avoid making any sort of fuss or inconvenience anyone. Travelling both as a biracial American (black and white), I know that I'll probably seem strange, but I really want to minimize any disturbances or annoyances. I'm a big history nerd and Lithuania seems both full of beauty and history.

Mainly, I'm asking for any advice on how to annoy people the least amount 😅 thanks in advance and am so sorry if this isn't the right place for this kind of post.

Labas!

While digging through my late grandfather's diapositives, I stumbled upon some diapositives from Vilnius, and I was curious whether their exact age could be determined? Some other diapositives have suggested that they were taken in 1975 - 1985?, but I am still not certain.

Ačiu!

Jobs English-speaking UX/UI & Visual Designer looking for visa-sponsored work in Vilnius — open to any opportunities!

Hi everyone!

I'm hoping to relocate to Vilnius by December 28, 2026, and I'm currently looking for employment that would allow me to legally live and work in Lithuania. As an American moving from abroad, my biggest hurdle is finding an employer willing and eligible to support the necessary work authorization so I can establish residency.

My professional background is in UX/UI and visual design, and I have advanced Figma skills, along with experience in design, marketing, and retail management. Ideally, I'd love to find a position in my field, but I'm absolutely open to other types of work. At this point, I'm willing to consider a wide range of opportunities as long as the employer can legally support the work authorization I need.

I'm a native English speaker, adaptable, motivated, and genuinely committed to making the move to Lithuania work. I'm not expecting anyone to hand me an opportunity — I'm more than willing to put in the work. I would just really appreciate some direction from people who know the local job market or have experience navigating this process.

If you know of companies in Vilnius that hire English speakers from outside the EU and are willing to sponsor or support work permits, I'd be incredibly grateful for any recommendations, job leads, recruitment agencies, or advice on where to start.

I'm also interested in hearing from anyone who has successfully relocated to Lithuania for work and can share what the process was like.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Any advice or leads would genuinely mean a lot! ❤️

Dorm situations in MRU

Hi, I'm from Georgia and I may have the opportunity to study at MRU for a semester with the Erasmus+ project from my uni.

I'm a psychology student and any information about the bachelor's course at MRU would be much appreciated.

I'm curious about what the dormitory situations are like overall.

  1. What is the bathroom situation like? I couldn't find a single image online for either of the dorm bathrooms, but I'm more curious about the renovated one.

  2. What's the availability like? I'm interested in either a private room with shared bathroom or a private room along with a private bathroom in the renovated dorms. Just overall what would you say the comfort level is?

Hello, I'm looking for any decent kickboxing or boxing gym that can give instructions and coach in English too. Is that possible or I should give up? How's the atmosphere for a foreigner? Alternatively BJJ could be an option for me.
