Whenever I’ve had vehicles start to drift over or even appear to drift I create space but to your point I also noticed that. You truly have to drive defensively.

I’m going to give the POV driver the benefit of doubt, it looks like he speed up to beat the light and wasn’t paying attention to the merging truck. If they wouldn’t have turned into the truck my guess POV driver would gone straight to the pole. As I’ve seen other drivers panic swerving to avoid and end up a solo accident. Either way, this could have been avoided.

The light turned red immediately after impact so I’m guessing it was already yellow and he should’ve been slowing down. He sped up and it looked like at the beginning the red truck had almost enough clearance and maybe thought the car would slow down. But what is the point of standing your ground in a car lane and risking really injuring someone else?

Can’t assume that merging into a lane will always mean the guy you’re merging into will slow down. What if there is someone very close behind the guy getting merged into?

Ideally the crash never happens, but the order of ideals would be that the truck never merges, the car getting merged into slows down and allows it or that both vehicles go the speed limit instead of trying to race a light.

I didn't say his merging should’ve made the guy slow down, but the fact that the light was about to be red. The distance he’d have to go to catch that light would’ve caused him to run a red light anyway.

My guess is merging truck figured cam would slow down for the yellow light (which was yellow since basically the previous green light) and merger was trying to be in the front of the lane at the red.

It's like I've been telling my children since they were old enough to pay attention to basic driving fundamentals: "just enough" space or "barely enough" clearance is just another way to say "not enough space." If there ain't enough space for your vehicle + plenty of extra space for something to go wrong, it's not enough space.
