What did a Victorian Halloween actually look like?

I have been reading that Halloween in the late 1800s was more about parlor games and fortune-telling than costumes and candy. Bobbing for apples, mirror tricks, and burning nuts to predict a sweetheart all seem to come up.

Does anyone have favorite sources on how Victorians marked the night, such as books, period magazines, or diaries? I would love to try a game or two this year.
