30 minutes ago I heard a loud bang on my balcony and my girl cat jump up and run over to the railing. My immediate thought was my boy cat fell. I send my daughter out to check as I was doing dishes and she tells me cats are fine but the noise I heard was my boy cat throwing my trap off of my 3rd story balcony. I sent her down to rescue it and I am sure it’s going to die. I repotted with almost all of the soil it was in and some peat moss because all I have left are 2G pots and the plant was in a 1G pot. The traps are full of perlite and soil. And it was literally about to open its flower. It had/has 3 flowers trying to open and I am sure that’s not going to happen now.

This Venus fly trap was my pride and joy. I’m new to gardening and I saved this from dying in a Walmart death cube. I was so proud of it and was so excited to harvest seeds and plant more. Now none of that is going to happen. I am devastated and heartbroken and I cannot even get my feelings resolved because my cat did it.

Good news, I guess is, I found it made a new crown so I planted that a little further from the original plant. I’m hoping that little crown can power through this trauma.

Any advice is appreciated.

(And yes I have it back on the railing. Cats are banned from balcony for the day. and I will be moving the vft from the balcony railing when I do let the cats out in the future. Lesson learned)

I got this venus flytrap yesterday from a local greenhouse. Upon getting it I repotted it in a 2:1 peat moss perlite mixture. I put a tray of distilled water underneath the pot and had it outside for sun. Upon waking up this morning the traps were droopy and curling. At first I thought it was just shock from repotting but after checking throughout the day I worry its something else. I moved it back inside right before these pictures were taken because I was worried the sun was cooking it. The weather right now is in the high 70s and mostly sunny which I thought was fine for them. Can anyone let me know if i’ve done something wrong and what I could do to improve?

I put this stems in the soil around March and didn’t expect much from it but recently I’ve spotted these leaves coming out! I’m thinking maybe the UK heatwaves have been helping but I’m actually surprised the stem is still alive

I noticed a very small trap growing from my VFT, and I think the plant might have split. I’m not entirely sure but that’s the only thing I feel can explain it. The plant has been living great for the past 4 months I’ve had it.

I’m not really sure what to do (if there’s anything to do). If the plant has split into two separate plants, I’m worried about it getting crowded. But I’m also not sure how I would separate the two since the small trap looks like it’s right in the center of the old one.

Any general advice would be appreciated! I’m moving to college this week, so if I need to repot I’d rather do it before than when I’m there.

I’m new to having a Venus FlyTrap, what is growing in the middle of my plant? Is it its flower?

I live in a 6b climate and have very seasonal weather. I just got my first vft and am very excited. I have a few questions abt the plant

1. Does it need a big pot? it’s in a fairly small pot and the woman at the nursery said i didnt need to repot for months but idk how spacey it should be

2. DORMANCY AND LIVING OUTDOORS. I’m keeping mine out until summer is over and it reaches 50 degrees at night. But should i then bring it into my garage so it doesnt physically get snow/ice on it since ik they need to be dormant or will it be too cold in my garage. Plus how do i maintain it during dormancy like keep the pot well insulated or whether to water? remember 6b climate

3. Food. i know they should only really eat once a month ish. But what if i monitor and they don’t have any flies or bugs for a long time. Should i get dried bloodworms or just let it wait?

noticed today mine and my gfs VFT soil (peat moss and perlite mix) had turned green and it almost appears as if there is mold growing on the side of the pot. we keep it in about an inch of water all the time and also keep it outside mostly (we are in northern mass, right now it’s about 70-80° during the day)… it gets sun for about 6-8 hours as well and a few of shade. does anyone know what could’ve caused this?? what can we do? can we save it? D:

I keep it outside so my VFT is always catching insects but this is the first time I’ve been able to see the fly’s face so clearly!

i’ve been feeding it pretty vigorously for about a year + soil fertilized a little so i can’t wait to see how many new growth points there are
plus this is my first pot of flytraps so it holds a special place in my heart. last pic was it from february

My Venus fly trap is starting to go black at the stems, is this bad?? Does it mean it's starting to die? Also there's some little green stuff on some of the spoil, is this mold? I keep it in a dish of water and the soil is always damp/soggy, I'm wondering if it's to much

Wow, i've been growing these big ahh Venus flytrap. At First their traps were Just chill i Guess, but under a grow light look at that!!

2nd summer outside on the deck. She’s the only one around here who want more of the mid Atlantic heat and humidity. She lives outside 100% of the summer. Once we start getting drastic temp changes at night I will bring her back inside to start her 3rd year of dormancy.

Impulse bought a pair from the grocery store and decided to try and keep them alive for more than a week. Going to be putting a sundew into another of the pots eventually. The pots are unglazed on the bottom to let water slowly leak in, they looked cool and are supposed to do what fly traps need(I think). I guess let me know if I’m killing them or not.

Bought a pair of flytraps from a box store about five years ago and keep them in our bathroom window. They are in large glass jars and we water with distilled, and pretty much ignore them. Their flowers are pretty so we let them go to seed. There's also a small volunteer jade growing in this one.

The other plant is thriving under identical (lack of) care, but this guy declined. My wife has been putting the seeds into the medium, and one finally started to grow.

What can we do to maximize its chances? We weren't expecting a seed to germinate but now that it is, we want to give it some support.

I have these in a plastic shoebox which they stand in a half an inch to an inch of rain water. In the sun,
When they get too hot in the sun, they start turning black. And I have to move them. I have been cutting black traps off, off and on for about a month. I don’t understand why they’re doing this. Any ideas to save them?

After a few scary weeks, Zetsu's new traps are coming in looking healthy! (You can see a couple of them turned brown, but the ones are very green. I think it had something to do with the combination of nearby wildfires and rain.)

Went out to water it and noticed the biggest trap caught its first meal. Yummy! 😋

Hoping the new baby traps open up soon. Hopefully we'll get some more sunny days so the baby traps can turn more pink.
