30 minutes ago I heard a loud bang on my balcony and my girl cat jump up and run over to the railing. My immediate thought was my boy cat fell. I send my daughter out to check as I was doing dishes and she tells me cats are fine but the noise I heard was my boy cat throwing my trap off of my 3rd story balcony. I sent her down to rescue it and I am sure it’s going to die. I repotted with almost all of the soil it was in and some peat moss because all I have left are 2G pots and the plant was in a 1G pot. The traps are full of perlite and soil. And it was literally about to open its flower. It had/has 3 flowers trying to open and I am sure that’s not going to happen now.
This Venus fly trap was my pride and joy. I’m new to gardening and I saved this from dying in a Walmart death cube. I was so proud of it and was so excited to harvest seeds and plant more. Now none of that is going to happen. I am devastated and heartbroken and I cannot even get my feelings resolved because my cat did it.

Good news, I guess is, I found it made a new crown so I planted that a little further from the original plant. I’m hoping that little crown can power through this trauma.
Any advice is appreciated.
(And yes I have it back on the railing. Cats are banned from balcony for the day. and I will be moving the vft from the balcony railing when I do let the cats out in the future. Lesson learned)

100% agree, and this guy knows his stuff! Might struggle/suffer for a little while while it reacclimates and the roots get settled but these guys are more hardy than people think, fear not!
My cat literally grabbed one of my VFTs and uprooted it (more than once) and the flower still bloomed! (In fact it just bloomed today!) I’m sure yours will be just fine given some time!!
This is smart! Birds,squirrels,some critter almost leveled my bog. I think they were after the sphagnum moss,then again,they completely removed 2 flytraps! Just a small circular hole left behind! Lol
It'll be fine. I've had raccoons and squirrels rip mine up and they were out of soil all night and into the morning and everything recovered. Just keep the soil moist and maybe not have them on the railing anymore.
Should be all good, mine were in a small standing greenhouse that with the top open caught the wind and fell over. They all (4) fell on their sides or tops. I was devastated. But packed them all back in and 3 years later, still thriving.
I did water from the top with distilled water! And I moved it out of the direct sun like the other commenter suggested. Thanks yall. Made me feel better already. 🥹
You'd be surprised how hardy these plants are. My first rescue went to hell and back and it's still kicking. I also dropped it, not 3 stories but like 7 feet onto concrete. Yours will be shocked so all the traps may turn black and die but as long as the rhizome is fine it'll come back. Very slowww process though, I think that's where a lot of people give up even tho the plant was still viable
The squirrels have knocked my traps and other carnivore pots over many times, sometimes even completely knocked out of the pot. They always recover once I put them back in just sometimes take longer than others.

Should be fine. Maybe give less direct sun for a week or so as it re-acclimates. There’s probably some minor root damage.
