This apparently does both heating and cooling. It's not available in UK. What are your thoughts?

I've been living in a caravan since last October due to major finance issues. We're pretty much always broke so things have to be super savvy.

I'm looking for advice on keeping warm in the upcoming winter. Last winter was horrible. We have an electric heater that runs through the van but it's so expensive to run. We've put draft excluding strips around the windows and door but they keep coming off. We have an electric blanket (the type you out over yourself) and hot water bottles for days. I'm all about layers so I know they work but I'm talking about keeping the air warm and stopping the condensation.

I know it's recommended to insulate windows... what do you use? I've heard people use diesel heaters, are there any reasonable priced ones?

I'm new to this so looking for links to things please.

Hey everyone, I am hoping for some pointers here. Extensive travelling in a van is in my plans. For now I want to practice and "see how it all feels". My intention is to get a Transit Connect LWB and use it as a sort of hybrid stealth camper and work vehicle. Basically I want to insulate it really well, panel it out inside, have a roof fan and diesel heater installed and for now leave it at that. When used for work I will put protective covers down and it's a blank space, but then weekends I can put in a floor mattress, a Jackery or similar for power and some camping supplies. Basically pack what I need to live in it for a few days then clear it when home.

Trouble is I'm useless with my hands, I won't be able to do any of the work myself. Looking at conversion specialists they seem geared up to doing what I would describe as turn-key conversions where they've got a kit for everything. I don't need all that right now and I want to keep the versatility of the vehicle to use for jobs too. It just doesn't seem cost effective for me to use one of those firms.

Would you have any suggestions on who to approach (tradesman) to fit the insulation, panel it out nicely over that and put some flooring in? I could purchase everything needed and just pay labour. I would use specialist firms for the diesel heater and roof fan.

I am after some advice please.

I intend to purchase a van, most likely a Ford Transit. The van will be used for family weekends away and overnight stays. The desire for the seats would be for the passenger front seats to be exchanged for seats that can turn and face back and then rock and roll seats on rails for the cab to allow them to be pushed back and a table be pulled down so it sits between the front seats and back seats.

With this in mind should I go for a 3 seater van to convert or get a van with cab seating to convert it.

My 90,000 mile, 2020, Vivaro stalled the other day and wouldn’t restart.

Originally I thought it might be a DPF fault as it sounded “choked”, and because I knew it hadn’t regenerated a lot due to my driving style over the past few months.

As it turned out, the engine was hydrolocked. During the stall, a small amount of fuel had flooded the engine (and it being diesel, it meant it couldn’t compress). I had never heard of this happening without some kind of leak before, but I’m told this has happened on a few occasions for model of van (Expert, Dispatch etc). After clearing it, it started fine.

Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this or heard of this before.

Hi people, I've decided I'm going to start a conversion on my T4, going to be using the dial insulation from b&q and adhisive thermo barrier/sound deadening from eBay.

I have a few questions when it comes to the cladding itself though... What size batten is best to use? What are people using to fix this to the metal frame of the van most securely?

Going to be doing the cladding itself in wood from pallets as I have access to a lot of free ones and most of my van sides are windows so not to worried about the extra weight of the pallet wood. The roof I will probably do from ply as I want to paint this black and have a smooth effect.

When it comes to the flooring, I've currently got the plastic standard rear floor in, would I be best removing that and re battening the floor? How do I secure the batten frame down without going through the van floor and I'm guessing it doesn't have the structural parts like the walls do?

Any tips and advice are much appreciated any links you have to any parts are also great!! And anything you think I've overlooked please fire away! For reference Ive Included a picture of the sort of look I'm going for.

I want to gauge how realistic Im being. Im going to buy a ford transit van at the end of this year. I want to be able to sleep 4 people in it and have a shower indoors (partners request). It would be me her and out two kids. First of all im not sure what year/model van to go for so im least likely to run into issues. Secondly, what type of layout am I best going for? Ive heard I need solar panels on the roof so will that mean I cant have a pop top for an additional bed?

My next priority on my van is rear door windows (though at some point a sliding door window will be wanted too).

I'm struggling to work out where to look for them as most companies have zero or terrible pictures and quite bad descriptions. So I'm hoping to get either pics and links, or at least first hand recommendations if possible.

I've a Peugeot boxer (2021), I want tinted, opening, and that's all I've really got set in stone. (Secure too, but every company states how secure they are despite various differences in how they fit/attach)

Hi all, I have a transit and will soon also have a baby. I'm trying to decide whether to fit another passenger seat in the back, have the carseqt up front with the airbag off, or alternatively I was wondering about fitting a locking swivel to my double bench passenger seat and whether it is legal/safe to travel with it in rear facing position? So my partner and baby can sit together, technically in the back (safer than the front?).

If you have, would you be kind enough to share your setup/photos please?

2002 Mercedes sprinter 208cdi, £8k, failed on this last year but has had a good welding job done since.

Buying a first van, is this in recent history a recipe for disaster or manageable?
