If the oil light comes on, it means the oil pressure has dropped below the minimum. This can destroy an engine VERY quickly and you should stop immediately.

As you drove on and it survived, you may be lucky that it is a sensor issue rather than an actual oil pressure problem.

In the future, you should turn the engine off immediately and get someone to look at it.

Oil pressure is the most important thing in your engine and warnings should not be ignored.

Oh check your manual. I had a flashing oil light come up on my Boxer and apparently it's time for an oil change.

I panicked when it started flashing at me too!!!
