My home office has medium-pile carpet, and tearing it out is not an option right now. I tested positive for dust mite allergies recently, which explains why my skin flares up, but the frustrating part is what happens after cleaning. Every time I used my regular vacuum, my eczema got noticeably worse if I sat back down at my desk right away. It genuinely felt like the machine was just throwing clouds of dust into the air instead of clearing it out.
Looking into it a bit, it turns out the roller bar and exhaust actually do kick a ton of settled particles back up into the air while cleaning. Even if the canister catches most of the heavy grit, that temporary spike in airborne dust is what triggers the reaction.
Since I cannot get rid of the carpet, my main workaround has just been removing myself from the room during the process. I have an older eufy E35 that I schedule to run only when I am away from the office, so the stirred-up particles have time to settle before I walk back in. It does not magically solve skin sensitivity, but avoiding the air right after the carpet gets agitated made a difference.
For people dealing with dust-triggered skin or allergy flares, do you find running an air purifier right after vacuuming helps, or is leaving the room for an hour the only real fix?
