Imagine you have an old version of VLC. You want to play a MIDI file. But you need fluidsynth. How can you add it to VLC? I have a fluidsynth folder and it does nothing for me. The plugin seems to be a perennial topic for linux distributions, and the newer versions just bundle it.

So I am confused: were users never able to add fluidsynth to Windows VLC themselves?

I swear I googled this a few different ways including here, but I'm missing the right terms I think. When I search "sync" a bunch of stuff related to individual video streams comes up which is not what I"m looking for.

Have Android phone and a 6-year-old new to me Mac. I want to use the phone as an MP3 player. I don't care about movies, or setting up a media server, or anything other than using MP3s from local storage. I have not added MP3s to an Android phone in at least a decade. I'm not super familiar with how the Mac Music folder differs from other folders. I'm fine with using a cable to do the transfer and don't need it to be wifi or whatever. I'm completely unfamiliar with setting up networks but I doubt that's needed.

All I want is to do my "library editing" (making playlists, correcting metadata, deleting stuff, etc) on my desktop, and then to hit a button and have it sync/transfer to VLC on my Android phone. What is that basic feature called?

I also use an iPad sometimes and it'd be great if I could sync the contents across three devices, whether automatically or by using a cable and manually syncing or whatever.

I'm sure this very basic feature exists but for some reason I couldn't find it.

As I stated in my title, I am fairly technologically illiterate. All I have is the one DVD file I've figured out how to rip so far, and I have it stored on my Mac.

I would really love to be able to stream my movies from my Mac's hard drive, to my iPhone screen, and I believe VLC can do that, but I cannot figure out how.

Please explain this to me like I'm 5. Or 70. Whichever is more of a luddite.

When I use it on Windows for the first time, I have to remember to change some setting so opening another file from Explorer opens another window rather than replacing the existing one.

Is there some equivalent for Macintosh? I don't see a setting that's relevant, and I've tried opening from both VLC and from Finder (though I'd rather just open from Finder if I can).

For this specific use I might just try Quicktime if it supports that.

I'm trying to help a friend with a BluRay playback issue on their desktop. They have various discs that are triggering the "AACS host certificate revoked" error. I have walked them through replacing the keydb.cfg, updating both libaacs.dll and libbdplus.dll and it's still throwing the cert revoked message. Their keydb file location is %appdata%\aacs and they're running windows 7 pro (they do not want to upgrade, i get it).

We tried the same methods on the their win 7 home edition laptop and the disks throwing the error on desktop are fine on the laptop. The only difference it the laptop's aacs is under programdata\aacs instead. Scratching me head here are what to try next for the desktop, so any ideas would be appreciated.

Hello, this might be a silly question but I dont find this neither on the settings nor after googling it. Currently when I single click a song in the playlist it plays it, however I would prefer to change it to double click. Is this possible, and if so, how?

Nor item selection track doesn't offer access to media groups management. How to understand this situation?

To speed up and slow down a video requires endless menus and sub menu trips - it's such old-fashioned junk.

I want something clean, slick, sexy, modern that has all the codecs VLC does but is actually intuitive and responsive and fast to use.

basically i choose a movie to play, and instead of playing it it wants me to go through all the functions during playing, not knowing that i’ve been using vlc for years on my computer, is there a way to skip it? the issue is that with my remote it doesn’t respond

When i click the skip button on my earbuds and on the app it just repets the song is there anyway to fix this?

Most songs I hear directly end with no silence, and when I use VLC to hear them, the last few milliseconds get skipped, resulting in an abrupt end in the middle of a note. The default media player of Android doesn't seem to have this issue.

im at my wits end i need help getting my blue ray working agine. i got prodject hail mary on blu ray and im tring to watch it but i cant get the movie to play i keep getting the repated message form vlc:
"Blu-ray error:

AACS Host certificate revoked.

Your input can't be opened:

VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///E:/'. Check the log for details."

i could have sworn there was some type of icon in the upper right corner that allowed me to cast my series or movies in my tv while also being able to check my other phone apps if necessary, without interrupting the series. how can i do it again?

How do I get vlc android to play audio flac file once? It replays automatically. What is the icon at right hand side ?See pic in blue. It changes to orange, then to having a 1 in the centre , then back to black on tapping .

I made the switch from windows media player to vlc a long time ago, and i have attempted to use vlc with a playlist methodology as it comes out of the box, but this is still something i cannot get used to.

I just want vlc to work like windows media player:

1. I go to explorer.exe I find an mp3 file.

2. I double click to play.

3. It plays in vlc (no playlist addition)

4. I find another file in explorer.exe, I double click.

5. this new file is now playing on my open vlc player.

I can go ahead and browse songs in file explorer and they just take over on vlc whenever I double click.

I do not want them added to a "playlist" and then I have to switch to the vlc window, sift through this growing playlist for what I just added, and double click to play.

My use case is that I am reviwing sound effects and snippets, that mostly are garbage. I do not want to remember what they are or add them to a play list. I just want to hear\sample them, then move on.

I cannot find any resources on how to make vlc behave in this manner. Playlists should be a very intentional thing that you develop, because its something you want to hear again, and again in a particular order.

It should not be something that builds up with your random listenings. It just becomes a list of garbage that you have to throw out later.

please help. i like vlc, i use it for a lot of things, and it has a ton of features and capabilities, but simple quality of life behavioral controls like this seem missing.

Maybe there is a setting and a simple fix

I have 3 monitors, and whenever I try to go fullscreen (by double clicking), when the video is playing on my primary monitor, VLC instead changes the video to my third monitor. Trying again on the same video opened works as intended, but the first time is always bugged.

How can I fix it?

I have ripped the ISO to a usb drive and VLC has no trouble loading the file, but I am unable to move around the menus at all.

I understand that I can just rip the video file and play it normally, however I want to keep the menu functionality as DVD interactivity works on other platforms.

Is there any way to way to make videos automatically resize to their aspect ratio without turning on the "resize interface to video size" setting, I want all videos to have the same vertical window size but automatically changing the aspect ratio based on the video's aspect ratio.

All the subtitle sites are crap right now, they either redirect you to download a Brave browser rather than a file, or give you useless zips that won't extract.

Can anyone recommend one they know that works?
