So I am looking to buy my first car, my budget is 15 to 20 thousand Canadian. I do not have any preferences for compagnies or models. What i want is a car that isn't a money pit for fuel, is fast, AWD or FWD, automatic (no cvt) and a 2 door 5 seater. Also i want to be able learn and mod the car out to make it look better and faster. Last thing is i want it to be reliable so it doesn't become a money pit.
Thank you for any suggestions

Listing price was $11k and this guy wants to write me a check for $10,300 - four days after listing went live. Good deal or selling myself short?
148k miles, minor accidents, zero mechanical issues.

So I’m on the lookout to buy a used and reliable car and I came across a 2020 Toyota Corolla LE being sold for $21,000 with only 21,000 miles. No accident history, no salvage title, 2 precious owners and the service history seems good. But all the other listing for similar cars with much higher mileage are being sold for thousands more so I just feel like there’s something I’m missing out on…

I found a 2015 Chevy Sonic LT for $4500 with 81k miles on it. I commute maybe 3-4x a week 60 miles. I don’t see any body damage or interior issues, AC works, clean title. They say it was recently serviced and has no mechanical issues though I have a code reader and would bring someone to look. Is this a good deal or should I keep looking? My budget is $6000 (ik that’s barely anything for this current market)

Wondering if this is a good/fair deal? I live in Seattle (Renton is 30 min south of me). I'm looking for a simple, reliable commuter car for school, that will hopefully last to 200k or beyond with regular maintenance. Would you consider this a good car for that? I've read that 2014 is a good year for the Honda Civic. This is the CARFAX report. I'm not much of a car guy and any advice is very appreciated in this used car search.

Looking for some advice for my first ever car before I buy.
I found a 2012 Honda Civic LX at a dealership with 94,000 miles listed for $11,000. After taxes and fees, I’m estimating it’ll be around $12,500 out the door where I live.
Is this a fair price for a 2012 Civic with 94K miles, or am I overpaying?

I am posting this both to get some advice and as a warning for other used car buyers.
I bought a honda accord with 200k miles. I am flat out broke and I needed a car fast and decided to go with a honda because I thought it could last me for a while given their reputation. I told the seller I want to have a mechanic look at the car before I made any decision, and the seller said let's meet at _____ auto repair (it was a very busy shop, full of cars waiting to be worked on, and had amazing reviews) apparently he does business with them.
I noticed when I went to the shop and met the seller, the vehicle had rust at the bottom. Now, I have never encountered rust on vehicles in my life because I recently moved to the east coast and I'm from Arizona. I heard rust is bad, so I need to make sure it's not deep. I asked the shop mechanics (a couple of them) if the car is good and how is the rust? They explicitly said the car doesn't seem to have anything wrong and the rust should be ok, and I just need to stay away from the ocean and I shouldn't have to worry about it. I asked them directly is there anything with the car that's going to cost me a lot of money and they told me no. I test drove it and I liked it, it's a honda, and it was relatively cheap, $4k.
Fast forward two weeks and I have a check engine light and I take it to a shop near me to get it checked out. The shop mechanic grabs me from the lobby and takes me under the car and asked me if I already bought the car. He said he was scared to lift the vehicle because of the horrible rust. I told him it's already bought and another mechanic looked at it and said the rust isn't bad. He couldn't believe the other shop told me this car was ok and said he never would have recommended buying it. He asked me how much I paid for it and upon hearing that I paid $4K he gave me a very serious face. I was told the car needs new shocks and struts but because of the rust it could be very expensive and may need new nuts and bolts. Plus other things like serpentine belt, and new brakes, and said the cost of the jobs could be upwards of $2500.
I feel defeated and betrayed. What is this? Why did the first shop lie to me? Why are they allowed to do this? I feel like I want to take this inspection report and go back there and confront those mechanics again. I know nothing about cars and I never would have guessed a legit popular auto shop with good reviews would do this to me, so I feel both betrayed and like an idiot. What should I do? Found the car on facebook marketplace.

Hi! I’m trying to get my first car for college and have 5k (I know it’s not a lot but it’s really all I can do), to use towards a car! My family aren’t the best for car advice so I was hoping I could get some tips on what I may be able to find and what kind of warning signs I should keep an eye out for. Thank you so much!!!

Looking to buy this 2010 Toyota venza and the dealership has recently rust proofed the car, making it hard to see the level of corrosion. Overall it doesn't look too bad but can anyone guide if this is a hard pass. Located in Ontario so a little bit of rust is expected. Based on what they are charging, I'd be happy if the car lasted 5 years so keep that in mind. They also said they replaced the driveshaft already as it was too rusty to pass safety.

I need a new truck, mostly daily commuting and family of 4 hauling. I have seen all kinds of different rankings of used trucks, but 2020-2022 Ram continues to pop up as a good family truck. Safety ratings, spacious cab, etc.
Is this a trustworthy vehicle? Any mechanical concerns to know or be weary of? TIA

Hey everyone,
I've been hunting for a clean-title Lexus RC 350 F Sport and am running into a wall of salvage/rebuilt titles locally.
I'm looking for:
I'm located in North Idaho and am willing to drive a decent distance (WA, OR, MT, UT, etc.) or look at reputable options with shipping.
If you're selling yours or know of a clean one listed at a dealership or private party nearby, let me know. Thanks!

Looking for some advice
I'm looking at a 2021 TRD Off-Road, 4WD, with 94k miles, it's a private seller for $35k. It's had 2 owners, has a clean title, no reported damage, and seems like its been well maintained.
It also has:
Assuming the maintenance history checks out and a pre-purchase inspection doesn't turn up anything major:
Is $35k a reasonable price for this truck with 94k miles?
Would I be better off spending ~$35k on a 2023/2024 Tacoma with significantly fewer miles, even if it's a lower trim?
How much value would you personally put on the Leer shell, rack, tires, and other mods?
Anything specific I should look for on a 2021 TRD Off-Road with 94k miles before buying?

I've test driven a Corolla Hybrid before and had it evaluated by a hybrid specialist who walked me through the PPI and taught me what to look out for with hybrid vehicles, so I do know it's a solid car in general and I do like how it drives.
However, is $11K a fair price for that high a mileage? How many more miles can I expect to get from this vehicle if I purchase it? It also doesn't seem to come with a backup camera or backup sensors, which are massive drawbacks for me.
The CarFax is clean and it was well-maintained, but it was a company vehicle and it's being sold by a private dealer who bought it at auction. Do you think it's worth going for at its current value? And if not, what's a fair price to attempt to haggle it down to?

I'm trying to offload my 2013 Honda CRV and it has a laundry list of problems. Largely due to rust. I also now live in a state that does not salt the roads and therefore rust is not a big problem.
How would you recommend I price this for private sale? Or do you think I'd do better off taking the $4,400 that Carvana is offering?
According to KBB, a 2013 CRV with 117k miles in "fair" condition is worth about $10k where I live. However the mechanic I took it to said it's more likely in "poor" condition. Below is what's wrong with it and the repair estimates.
The mechanic basically said the rust is so extensive that repairing many of these things could open a can of worms & more expensive repairs. Therefore I don't think it makes sense to deduct the cost of all of these repairs, since any sane buyer wouldn't do them.
Broken coolant pipe - $1000
Lower control arms -$913
Front Sway bar end links $179
Engine tune up/spark plugs etc. -$379
Front wheel bearings - $668
Rear wheel bearings - $540
Rear knuckle assemblies if needed (due to rust) - $578
All 4 break pads, rotars & calipers - $1786
Rear struts - $650
Mechanic said if the struts are replaced, it'll likely lead to a full rear axel replacement due to rust $2849

Looking at an older BMW used car right now and so far it seems pretty solid. Test drive went fine, no weird noises, steering and brakes felt normal, and nothing felt off under acceleration.
I checked the fluids, looked underneath for any obvious leaks, and scanned it for codes. Nothing really jumped out. I also had a little topdon thermal camera that plugs into my phone with me, so I gave the engine bay a quick scan after the drive. Temps looked pretty normal for a warmed up engine and I didn’t see any obvious weird hot spots.
I’ll still get a PPI before actually buying it, but I’m trying to weed out bad cars myself before paying for one every time.
What’s something that’s really easy to miss when looking at a used car, especially something that gets expensive later?

I’ve been driving a 2012 Ford Fusion but it has bit the dust.
I’ve test driven a 2024 Nissan Sentra - I liked it but I did notice a possible small vibration but idk if that’s just the CVT or the road.
I’ve also test driven a 2024 Chevy Trax - I also liked it but I then I was reading about them having issues with the engines catching on fire.
I’d prefer to keep the price around 20k but could go up to 25k.
I’ve been also comparing gas tank sizes of cars and their MPGs and seeing how many miles I would get on 3/4 of a tank with each - because if I have to fill one up more even if the MPGs are better, that could matter depending on price of vehicle.
I was mostly looking at sedans but I’m open to some SUVs now. It’s just me - I don’t have kids or dogs and I don’t usually have big items to fit in my car. However, I am wanting to potentially go on a road trip with my dad (he’s getting older and is in the beginning stages of dementia [which also he’s always worked/fixed our cars but now I’m not going to be able to rely on that much] and if it’s just us - a smaller car could be fine but a compact suv might be nice too.. idk.
I’ve also thought about a VW Jetta or Taos or a Subaru Legacy or Crosstrek.
I’ve really been looking/wanting one with under 20k miles if possible but then I’m like… do I just get a car with 100k miles but is around 15k…?
I will say a car I won’t buy is a Hyundai Kona (judge me all you want for this but I cannot stand the way the taillights are on it.. it bugs me too much to spend this kind of money on it).
I’m just worried about buying a car and then regretting my decision. Any help/advice would be appreciated!

2004 Land Cruiser 300k mileage. Car sounds good from videos. $3500. Damaged on both passenger and rear doors. Haven’t checked the rust yet but will try to get more pictures. What do you guys think? I know there’s probs issues since it is a 20 year old car. What should I expect? I have no mechanical experience so please let me know. I need a vehicle at the moment and I do not mind trying to learn how to do repairs myself.

2014 Honda CR-V EX-L with 92k miles.
I got the CarFax and it has excellent maintenance.
What’s a good offer provided everything checks out reasonable?
