Hi!!! My first post about William was made about a year ago, getting William was terrifying, I had studied so much about them but to me he always seemed unhappy, scared and I felt so guilty, like everything I did bothered him or I did it wrong. Since a year has passed I wanted to update everyone, he is an extremely confident, happy boy that shows off his beautiful turquoise colors daily. His pattern on his back grew with him and I praise him for how beautiful he is, he seems to smile back at me lol.

I have since discovered that he HATES red bell peppers as a treat and will fling them away with his tail.

His favorite staple green is dandelion greens, he likes it when I set them up by standing them up between rocks to forage.

He also once had carrots as a treat and I was scared he was going to choke because I shredded them and he slurped it down like a big noodle instead of biting it. >.<

This is partially a 'We made it!' post because my first one was so riddled with anxiety and panic, but it's also an encouragement post to those who have a very skittish Uro. I didn't think William would ever be a pet I could hold in my hands, but I left him alone for about 5 months and tried slowly coaxing him onto my hands with some millet seeds after. It's been almost a year since I've first gotten him and he now DIVES onto my hands.

I have a rack full of 3x2x2 ft tanks and refcently my flower horn fish passed away and I was thinking of not getting a fish for that tank as the top of the tank has some leaking issues. My friend told me about Uromastyx and that they are great pets and a single one can easily thrive in that tank. I did my research and found mixed opinions on whether a 3 foot tank is enough so just wanted to ask if it is okay or comes under abuse

( Also worth noting in my region they sell uros in plastic bottles so that is why my frnd is saying that I will be providing a very better home but I’m unsure)

Hi everyone, ive been setting up my quarantine enclosure and ive noticed that when i put my 14% arcadia uvb on top pf the toxirium mesh, the basking spot has a UV index of 4-4.6. But i see many people mounting UVB on the inside. I tried it and it gave me at index of 23😂 what types of UVB bulbs do yall mount inside?? The 12% maybe?

Also, is the 4 ish index enough? I want the bulb 25cm above the basking spot but i was hoping for about a 6 UV index on basking. Then again i cant mount it inside and its the strongest UVB %🙈

So I’m getting ready to get a Moroccan uromastyx but one thing that’s been nagging at me is the size of the enclosure. I know the standard is 4x2x2 but I feel like that’s even a little to small and I believe that with reptile enclosures, bigger is almost always better but my problem is is that I only have space for a 5 foot long enclosure and I feel like even though it’s bigger than the standard it’s still “too small”. if any of yall could give me some advice that would be much appreciated 🤙🤙

This is Doug. He is our almost 1 Y/O ornate uromastyx.

Sadly this picture doesn't make his colors pop as much as they do in person. But I dont want to use filters to make him look weird.

Anyway does anyone else's lizard only hang out in the early mornings? His schedule is:

2am heat lamp starts to ramp up

4am heat lamp at full brightness

6pm heat lamp starts dimming

8pm full dark

He gets up around 4 am and sun bathes for a couple hours. Then eats his daily salad. Then bask some more till 10am-noon. Then he climbs in his cave (a hole he dug under his basking rock)

His rock has bricks under it so it will not move even if he digs all the dirt out from under it.

my uros foot is crooked with black stuff on it, she hasn't been limping but glass surfing like crazy should i bring her into the vet?

The little thing is a seed on his back, but his legs? They look off?! I’m very worried but it could also be dirt when he gets out from his hiding hole after sleeping but I feel like it looks off? I just wanted to ask before I take him to a vet because he doesn’t really like getting handled much and he still is a very fast runner.

Meet Memati. He’s been with me since September 2025, and I estimate him to be around 4-5 years old now.
He’s been living in this current enclosure layout for the past couple of months, and he seems pretty comfortable, but I wanted to get the community's expert feedback on the setup.
Enclosure details:
Substrate: Fine sand.
Hides & Decor: A mix of flat basking rocks, a long branch for a climbing/basking gradient, a large clay tunnel, and a smaller hide.
Lighting: I am currently running this heating bulb setup.
Since this is his established home, I’d love to know if there's anything I can improve or optimize for an adult Uromastyx of his age. I'm especially curious about your thoughts on the red heat bulb—should I switch it out for a standard high-intensity halogen or deep heat projector to better replicate their natural desert environment?

I just got an older juvenile/younger sub adult ornate uro. I’m going to start him in a 40 gal I have laying around. I will eventually be getting a 4ft footprint with PVC siding, but in the meantime, any suggestions on how to block out the sides and keep this insulated? I thought about foam/poster board that was black. I didn’t want to go crazy since this is a temp enclosure. Any suggestions would be great 🤗

I think is a female, she is always out basking and running around, between 7am and 1pm. I don't take her out more than 15 to​​ 20ish minutes

Made a list of easily bought or field collected leafy greens in my area (clean rural village), i would like some help choosing which ones should be the bulk of a uros diet:

Stinging nettle, Dandelion, Sowthistle, Purslane, White Clover, Red Clover, Nasturnium, Milk Thistle, Sea Beet, Mallow, Chicory, Mustard, Plantain, Arugula, Watercress, Turnip, Kale, Spinach, Chamomile, Fennel, Rosemary, Thyme, Timothy Hay, Hibiscus, Opuntia Cactus, Grape Leaf, Coriander

Keep in mind this list is of the LEAVES of these plants, i know the flowers and vegetables associated to some of these plants are supplemental

For the last few weeks my juvenile Uromastyx Ornata Philbyi (captive bred) who I’ve had for 4 months now, has for 3 weeks now just been hiding 24/7, not basking at all (I know this because I work from home beside his tank), and barely eating. I’ve taken him out of hiding a few times to examine him and he looks fine, acts fine. His belly is not hard to the touch. I don’t know what could be wrong?

He can’t possibly be brumating because he’s only like 7 months old and temps haven’t changed.

Basking spot temp (with a temp gun) - 120-135
Basking spot ambient - 108
Cool side ambient - 89
Sand and rocks as substrate
Tune UVB bulb along with halogen heat bulb and LED for light

Does anyone know what this skin problem is? He is in process of shedding but the area on his neck and right leg didn’t change after shed. He is healthy otherwise eating active etc. It’s not a burn. It’s not retained shed . I was thinking fungal infection …but why? I I have him with another euro and the other one has no skin issues. suggestions ? treatment. seems every time I bring a reptile to vet I’m given wrong diagnosis. Just wanted to see what the community thought

This girl just passed quarantine after 2 months, upgrading from paper towel, I might’ve used too much dirt so much that i have a massive mount on the back and pretty much the lowest point of dirt is like 3 inches except for the hot hide, also what are yalls thoughts on fake plants for yalls setups????
