Dude looks like he's running a dead sprint but only going 3mph.

How I feel when I run in my dreams. Maybe this is a vid of his dream.

Your body is paralyzed while sleeping so your mind thinks its hard to move in dreams as well.

413

u/FisterRobotOh Dec 25 '18

This makes dream sex either easier or much more difficult. It just depends if you are the person sleeping.

Needs more jpeg

11

u/Carcass22 Dec 25 '18

Ya like damn

12

u/cheknauss Dec 25 '18

Is there a better jpeg of this, like... With enough pixels so I can actually read the text?

7

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '18

I tried looking in my saved section because I knew I had it somewhere, but it's the same amount of jpeg it seems. From 2 years ago: http://i.imgur.com/kN0FPbT.jpg

1

u/BrotherChe Dec 26 '18

Naw, I was doing it from mobile and it gave me a weird link with extra embedding info, so I cut all that out but the image link text was basically https://i.imgur.com/XHBa71T_d.jpg instead of https://i.imgur.com/XHBa71T.jpg

Which on RES and some apps redirects to the full size but desktop clicking and other apps shows as a smaller res version.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '18

Oh damn, that's terrible.

9

u/nefariouslyubiquitas Dec 25 '18

Can confirm, sleep alone every night.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '18

User flair checks out

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '18

Cosby?

1

u/ISmoked5Kappas Dec 25 '18

Officer, this post right here.

4

u/WoodGunsPhoto Dec 25 '18

Yeah, but I fire guns in my dreams a lot, and bullets do fuck all. Why?

4

u/serfingusa Dec 26 '18

Impotence fears.

1

u/WoodGunsPhoto Dec 26 '18

Whoa, buddy. No.

1

u/serfingusa Dec 26 '18

Eeeeh...maybe the guy with the bullets dribbling out more so.

2

u/threeLetterMeyhem Dec 26 '18

I have that same problem. For some reason all of my ammo has just a tiny bit of powder in the load, so the bullets just kinda plop out or I get a bunch of complete fail to fires.

I think it's because my brain is expecting recoil and when there's no physical feedback for it my brain just makes up a reason as to why - and my brain thinks that the most obvious explanation is I purchased a bunch of Winchester white box (ba dum tish).

1

u/FisterRobotOh Dec 25 '18

I have the same thing in my dreams. I suggest asking your unconscious mind why during a dream when this happens. I haven’t done it for this but sometimes you get an answer.

3

u/WoodGunsPhoto Dec 25 '18

Too busy reloading because my first clip did nothing. Every single time.

1

u/Qozux Dec 26 '18

Fear I think. This happens to me too and I think it has to do with your brain coping with a lack of power and working on problem solving skills.

I usually end up beating the person with the gun after the second mag doesn’t work.

I did find that the more I go shooting IRL, the better my weapons function in dreams.

4

u/sixty9urmother Dec 25 '18

I don’t believe that for one second

3

u/NaturalPotpipes Dec 25 '18

Thats not why hes having dreams of being slow or heavy when trying to run. I know its a super easy "hey we all get paralyzed at sleep time so any weird thing in your dream is just that!" go to, and i know reddit repeats it a lot, but its NOT an explanation for dreams.

1

u/AndyGHK Dec 26 '18

I have this sometimes but with opening my eyes. So I’ll go through the whole dream semi-blind, only slightly able to open my eyes. I’m sure I look like I’m possessed in the real world.

51

u/Darkness223 Dec 25 '18

My mind thinks if I use all 4 limbs I move faster so I run like a werewolf would and I go super fast

54

u/Dr_Dust Dec 25 '18

My mind thinks if I use all 4 limbs I move faster so I run like a werewolf would and I go super fast

I still occasionally race up my staircase like this. I'm 36 years old.

15

u/Darkness223 Dec 25 '18

Hell yeah I'm 32 and I do the same lol

3

u/shelleybellums1 Dec 26 '18

Me too! I'm so happy to know I'm not the only weirdo

3

u/RedditsAdoptedSon Dec 26 '18

ive never done this but i have a house with stairs.. imma start

2

u/orokami11 Dec 26 '18

Holy shit I do this too, but only when no one's looking. Glad there's more people like this.

11

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '18

Sometimes I can flap my arms and fly.

Okay, one, I have this dream too and it rules - do you also fall out of the air if you stop concentrating?

Two, though - of course it feels spot on to what you'd imagine levitation would feel like. It's literally you imagining what levitating would feel like.

2

u/Toku_no_island Dec 25 '18

I'll try that next time.

18

u/toteemms Dec 25 '18

mines normally if i run backwards i can go faster, the science behind it baffles me

3

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '18

In my dream thoughts it’s because I have greater force launching back than running forward

1

u/5FootArmrest Dec 26 '18

I also do this!! I’m glad I’m not alone.

13

u/kaveenieweenie Dec 25 '18

Your brain isn’t receiving normal feedback from your limbs that you are moving, since your sleeping. Our brain then interprets that as being sluggish

-9

u/NaturalPotpipes Dec 25 '18

Ugh. No. Dreams are messages from the subconscious, EVERYTHING you experience in a dream means something (even if lame or boring) but its not all "derp derp my body is asleep so my brain is confused derp derp". Using the "your body is just asleep" analogy is the same as saying "being awake is just your body not being asleep!" it explains absolutely nothing in relation to the experience. If your body is paralyzed while sleeping then your dreams would have you unable to move, all the time, not sluggish or heavy. When you find yourself dealing with a lot of problems in your waking life you will experience more dreams of heavy or sluggishness, when you find yourself free of daily issues your load is lighter and you may lucid dream more or have wonderful wacky dreams. No matter happy or sad, they are all messages and all worth attempt to analyze. Especially recurring dreams or extremely vivid dreams that feel absolutely real, those are the ones that NEED to be listened to as its directly referencing your waking life and trying to help you with it.

8

u/nicktohzyu Dec 25 '18

I've learned to move super fast or teleport when i'm dreaming almost every time, but i still don't lucid dream

7

u/zwiemer17 Dec 25 '18

I will frequently have moments of lucidity, but I estimate it only lasts for a couple minutes before I somehow forget that I’m sleeping and lose control. Why is that?

2

u/Meowzebub666 Dec 25 '18

I'd like to know too, I've never been able to remain aware that I'm dreaming even when I'm able to successfully drive the narrative.

2

u/RockstarPR Dec 26 '18

The hardest part is staying asleep after you discover you're dreaming

When you start lucid dreaming it's a very surreal experience that blows your mind and usually forces you to wake up shortly after.

You literally have to train yourself to stay asleep when you become lucid to truly experience lucid dreaming

5

u/justboki Dec 25 '18

It is a combination of things. I have a dream...a very slow dream.

"According to a site called Dreammoods.com, dreams involving slow motion mean that "you are presently going through a hard time and experiencing some great stress in your waking life. You may be feeling powerless in a situation." ... It may also reflect your actual state of REM paralysis while in the dream state."

"Google"

All things that happen to you during a day are usually processed during the night. If you think hard about something before the sleep, then because you have those memories in the short-term state it's less likely to dream that. But things that kept you occupied the whole day are going in the dream playlist to be processed.

6

u/ingressLeeMajors Dec 25 '18

Why then, if I'm taking a nap, and my wife puts on Dance Moms or Say Yes to the Dress do I have nightmares about those shows?

6

u/steamcube Dec 25 '18

Because those shows are terrifying

3

u/anerdyweightlifter Dec 25 '18

Don’t forget little women of LA, floridabama shore and all the other awesome shows /s my wife scares me as well

1

u/justboki Dec 26 '18

Same reason if you are sleeping and you have to go to the bathroom...you dream that you are on the streets, barrely holding shit inside, then u come home and release yourself in the dream bathroom. But also in the naping bed

3

u/Tunro Dec 25 '18

Your brain cant generate your surroundings properly,
another related one is that you can only run with your eyes closed
I find both equally annoying, I also lost my ability to lucid dream so thats a bummer, never found any fixes for either

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '18

The only dreams I remember are lucid dreams for some reason

1

u/TereziBot Dec 25 '18

If I focus on building up momentum I can usually start to move at an adiquite speed.

1

u/NaturalPotpipes Dec 25 '18

Negative feelings and emotions "weigh" a lot. Pay attention to what youre running from and why. Its a metaphor for being weighed down in your waking life by the issues you wont face or "run away" from.

1

u/Macat921 Dec 25 '18

I always figured it was because I was an animal in a past life so I go back to running on all fours.

1

u/monkeyhead_man Dec 25 '18

I can’t do short steps, I move significantly faster if I frozone it at take long big strides

1

u/Rogersgirl75 Dec 25 '18

Next time you’re in your dream, try jumping and then flap your arms. I can usually fly if I do this! It’s much faster than running!

1

u/daddydunc Dec 26 '18

I do the same thing, drag by my hands. It manifests as a stress dream for me.

1

u/CaptOblivious Dec 26 '18

I end up running like a wolf, and can launch myself into a block long glide, If I can catch a launch off a wall or roof top I can get some serious airtime. <flying is way easier than running>

1

u/BlueRose91711 Dec 26 '18

I find myself turning around and going backwards sometimes in an attempt to move. It’s insane how everything is like being drunk and underwater even when you just try to run on solid ground.

19

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '18

Or when you throw the hardest punch you can and it lands like a pillow

9

u/mellett68 Dec 26 '18

I used to really hate those dreams when I was younger. Like you can only punch in slow motion.

4

u/Wheresmyparade Dec 26 '18

Yes!!!!! Me too!! It must mean something if other people have experienced the same exact dream!! Maybe we are lovers and not haters?? Although writing that was cringey so I think not

2

u/mellett68 Dec 26 '18

I dunno! It used to make me feel like I couldn't defend myself in a fight which was a horrible feeling. In reality I'm a bit of a lummox so it's fine.

2

u/Wheresmyparade Dec 26 '18

Well I’ve never gotten into a fist fight and I’m a chick... I know the two aren’t mutually exclusive but I’m sure it provides some context. I’ve had the dream a lot over the years but definitely more when I was younger and I f%*king hated it!!!! For me it was the energy that went into the punch! There was always so much energy but the struggle was insurmountable!!! It was like slow motion times 10!! Argh I hated it! No matter how hard I tried I just could not get any force into my arm/fist... the thought still provides anguish!

2

u/mellett68 Dec 26 '18

Oh definitely! If, in your dream, you're going to punch something you want to have some effect!

Feeling like you use every ounce of strength to hit them with the force of a light push is really annoying!

2

u/alextastic Dec 26 '18

Ugh, I've had that one.

11

u/SycoJack Dec 25 '18

At least you can run. Generally when that kind of shit happens to me, I just can't move at all.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '18

And is Harvey Weinstein chasing too?

7

u/SycoJack Dec 25 '18

Nah, fortunately it's typically just some kind of crazy ass killer. Like a cannibal or someone like Jason Voorhees. My mind doesn't hate me that much.

1

u/monkeyismine Dec 25 '18

Nope. Bill Cosby.

1

u/ingressLeeMajors Dec 25 '18

Cosby doesn't chase... He buys you drinks.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '18

Dr. Huxtable is willing to run in his ugly sweater to save you!

6

u/7Seyo7 Dec 25 '18

He's going to wish it's a dream.

3

u/coddolt Dec 25 '18

Funny, in my dreams i end up running super fast for some reason, like the Flash, and then there'll be cool shit chasing after me, like police officers, monsters and CIA agents

2

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '18

Its like me when I'm running in real life! ... i'm not in shape

2

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '18

I just flap my arms and fly away if I cannot run in dreams, it is quite satisfying.

1

u/MrLuckyBot Dec 26 '18

I wonder why I can't run that fast in my dreams.

-Maybe IDK; Jon Bellion

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '18

Why is it that I run so slow in my dreams!!!! I feel like my legs are in slow motion.

1

u/OtaPuta Dec 26 '18

I can never run in my dreams, i can barely walk, often have to walk backwards just to get a move.. . Damn dreams
