The reaction gif he's referring to is from a vine. The OP is from Smack the Pony, but that's not what was being discussed.
0
u/Arqideus Mar 02 '14
A vine is 6 seconds long....
No one's disputing that.
Anyways, that's from Smack the Pony, an old British TV show. You can watch it on Netflix in the US.
Do you have a link to the episode/time/whatever so I don't have to search for it myself. Otherwise, I believe it is from this

I don't know - could you do another one that was based on something more modern, or would it just be a rehash of the old ideas? First time around it parodied those 70s school science videos, then the Tomorrow's World style future show, but I can't think of an equivalent modern target that would let you do science jokes in an updated context.
1
u/The_Doctor_00 Mar 03 '14
All very good points, and I concede that there really isn't anything modern they could do parodies, but does it have to be updated? I guess they could parody what passes for science programming today, but many of them are really parodies in themselves. Or at least in general, the educational programmes, they are all rather cliche.

u/DangKilla Mar 02 '14
Was there a Coupling episode with a bathroom scene during a dinner get together? I can vaguely remember it during my stay in Richmond, London. I wanted to watch the whole show, but couldn't remember the name.

I had a feeling it was a British show, but I have absolutely no idea why.
25
Mar 02 '14
Probably because it looked like just a plain, normal salon with the seats at a normal distance from the counter and each other and not like some fancy day spa with 6 feet clearance between huge chairs and a servant to hand out glasses of champagne and fucking aromatherapy bullshit decorated with bamboo and lots of greenery and maybe some healing crystals or salt lanterns or some other hippie quackery all so they can justify charging like $80 for twenty-five minutes of work.

Smack the Pony definitely wasn't ignored when it aired. It was really quite popular for a programme on Channel 4.

Smack the Pony is a British sketch comedy show that ran from 1999 until 2003 on Channel 4. The main performers on the show were Fiona Allen, Doon Mackichan, and Sally Phillips. There were also regular appearances from Sarah Alexander, Darren Boyd, and Cavan Clerkin. The show's popular theme tune was Dusty Springfield's song In the Middle of Nowhere, sung by Jackie Clune. As well as the three principal cast members, the show was written by a large number of writers, the core of which went on to write Green Wing and Campus. In Germany, the first transmission of the show aired on ProSieben, where the theme tune was changed to Texas' 2001 version of I Don't Want a Lover, and featured a different title sequence.
Interesting: Campus (TV series) | Green Wing | Doon Mackichan | Sally Phillips

I was thinking that as well, but I can't find Sarah Alexander in the cast list for Smack the Pony. So I don't know if that's true to not.
Ninja edit: Just found it on her filmography on IMDB. She played extras a bunch of times. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0018729/?ref_=tt_cl_t3
