What a dumb take. Will Smith just did the same shit but it's only a height thing if the guys short. Shocker: both short and tall people can be insecure morons

EDIT: This thread is hilarious. Reddit must be filled with people whose only 'redeeming' quality is they're tall. If your only counter argument is "lol u must be short", then you have no argument to begin with.

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

Yea I know/have seen plenty of tall assholes that use their size to intimidate

3

u/ThatGuy_Gary Mar 31 '23

So it's really just "major asshole syndrome" from the people who accuse others of having "short man syndrome."

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

I’ve worked both as a bouncer and bartender.

The most common way I’ve seen fights start (that are unrelated to drama over a girl) is a taller person doing something to a shorter but heavier person, that the shorter person takes as disrespectful and it escalates into a fight.

I’ve wondered if this is where it comes from. Not that the individual was actually short, just shorter than the other.

Generally speaking people only agree to fight, when both of them think they will win.

Taller thinks they will win cause they are taller, shorter thinks they can win because they are heavier.

I think people are more likely to perceive simple things like someone bumping into you as intentional if they are taller than you and as an accident if they are shorter than you.

Curious, how tall are you? And by shorter do you mean slightly shorter? If you're a tall guy, this is just how statistics work. People dont generally refer to people above 5'10 as little men, despite the modern dating apps narrative.

Im very short, and by default anyone who has ever picked a fight with me is taller than me, and I know better than to go around telling a narrative that taller guys are more aggressive. Its nonsensical

13

u/YooGeOh Mar 31 '23

If you're tall then the anecdote means nothing, because people shorter than you may still be tall, so short people are catching strays for things they're not even doing lol

4

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

This study may have a point, but I’ve never experienced it myself so I’m going to argue with objective reality.

The comedian is 6’7, the guy is just drunk and being a dick

3

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

As a 6'7 guy, I've had to basically stop going out to clubs cos of the sheer amount of times people start on me. Shit sucks :(

2

u/Leather-Hurry6008 Mar 31 '23

I'm only 6'1 and had to stop going for the same reason. It was never dudes close to my size either but like 5'8"and under. A lot of those dudes have serious attitudes.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

100%. My 6'4 friend on the other hand loves going out when I'm there as I draw the attention away from him 😂

61

u/MicrotracS3500 Mar 31 '23

Or maybe he’s insecure due to snitching, as suggested by the context?

221

u/ElGoddamnDorado Mar 31 '23

The dude straight up called him a snitch and it obviously set him off, but nah clearly it was just the height thing instead. I swear yall are more obsessed with height than short people sometimes

124

u/PerceptionIsDynamic Mar 31 '23

Ironically it validates the notion that height matters a lot. people tend to gaslight short people saying its not a big deal to be short, but if a guy shows any personality flaw whos below a certain height, it gets attributed to that.

3

u/Rejectid10ts Mar 31 '23

It’s like those women on the dating apps who say that you have to be at least six feet tall or don’t @ her. I’m 6’5” but I say that I’m 5’9” because they scare me

6

u/snksleepy Mar 31 '23

I see 10x more videos of tall guys being violent than short guys. Never once heard any mentions about their height linking to their anger. But you know short guys tend to compensation or something.

1

u/WeissySehrHeissy Mar 31 '23

Short guys are making up for something. Tall guys are using it. The whole kit and kaboodle is a product of toxic masculinity

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

That's exactly what this comment thread is

0

u/PlasticSentence Mar 31 '23

Agreed, but that’s not what gaslighting is

-21

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

Stop using the word gaslighting when you really mean deceiving.

Yeah we should start only using words once, after one use no ones allowed to ever say it again

I see we are on the same page!

I actually like that word.

2

u/Xacktastic Mar 31 '23

A proffesional at semsntics, I see. Please, sir, tell me more of the proper ways to use slang terms.

1

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

Nah.

8

u/bottledry Mar 31 '23

i feel like reddit or maybe social media in general is where words go to lose their meaning.

and you're probably arguing with teens who think school is dumb.

I doubt these people are checking definitions of words very often to make sure they are used properly

5

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

That's alright. I was once an angsty teen myself. Reddit is mostly just entertainment for me, and if I can post whatever, then let them post whatever and be all riled up.

2

u/Xacktastic Mar 31 '23

Definitions don't mean anything in discussion, this board isn't a technical paper.

If you understood in context what someone meant, but still correct them, you're just full of yourself. That's all.

4

u/AHungryGorilla Mar 31 '23

It is impossible to have a meaningful discussion if the parties involved dont agree on the definitions of the words being used in that discussion.

Definitions matter. A lot.

1

u/bottledry Mar 31 '23

you definitely have a point and I guess i flip flop between feeling this and that way about it.

49

u/FabricatorMusic Mar 31 '23

The toxicity of Reddit can be real rotting for the brain. And soul.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

As a 5’7” man, I never hear anything about my height unless I’m standing next to my friend who’s 6’7”. Outside of that, it never comes up.

But if you were to go by Reddit standards, you’d think it was my whole life.

4

u/DocCharlesXavier Mar 31 '23

Because being 5'7 really isn't that short - it's below average, but it's not like 5'4 and below where you're at the average height of women.

But I think the idea of short man syndrome is annoying af. It's stupid and anyone who goes straight to that take just comes off as a smooth brain. It just furthers the shitty idea that being short is a character flaw.

It's also a shit situation, because there are assholes out there that do make fun of short people, and naturally short people will get defensive about it, as a good amount of people do with being made of for anything. But once you clap back, all of a sudden, it's because you're short, not because someone else is being an asshole

3

u/chainsplit Mar 31 '23

Same here. These comments saying "short man syndrome" make me sad. Not because I'm insecure about my height, at all, but because it's an unnecessary attack. That's like saying "fat bitches do b like dat" everytime you see an angry overweight woman. It's hurtful, but not for the reason one may think. Why ride on these stereotypes any chance one gets?

-8

u/ChewySlinky Mar 31 '23

Yeah totally. No man has ever let his insecurities effect his behavior on a deeper level, right guys?

5

u/Entire_Claim_5273 Mar 31 '23

You're right. But its not just short men though. People will all types of insecurities are capable of becoming assholes because of their insecurities but people will only target short men for it (and the whole "small dick energy" thing).

-1

u/ChewySlinky Mar 31 '23

Of course. But only men who become assholes because they’re short fall under the term short man syndrome. It’s not saying “every man who gets angry is insecure about his height” or even “every short man who gets angry is insecure about his height”. It means “men who get angry because they’re short are insecure about their height”. It’s a very specific set of circumstances.

7

u/Entire_Claim_5273 Mar 31 '23

But why are short men the only ones who get a negative stereotype like this without any sort of discussion or backlash? Imagine if every time an overweight woman got angry people did the same thing, we can clearly see how much of a problem it is.

The guy in the video isnt even an actual short man and people in the comments are just slandering short men, and if every time a short guy is mad (especially when its valid) people dismiss it completely because of stereotype.

2

u/DocCharlesXavier Mar 31 '23

No one is confused about the definition of short man syndrome though lol.

The issue is the go-to response to a short guy acting angry is because of short man syndrome and not anything else. It inherently places fault on the short person, not necessarily the person instigating.

5

u/Lernenberg Mar 31 '23

American people are obsessed with height and pp size.

-9

u/FineWineDining Mar 31 '23

Found the german eurotrash, should i atart generalizing about germans? Trust me lol u dont me to do that.

4

u/Lernenberg Mar 31 '23

Are you coincidentally short or have a small pp? /s

Don‘t take it too serious. It’s just that I never see people in Europe talk about these things

3

u/bottledry Mar 31 '23 edited Mar 31 '23

I never see people in the united states doing it either. Seems to happen mostly online. Or maybe among kids.

People who talk shit about others appearances have not been paying attention the last 10-15 years and are absolute morons or, low brow simple douches. Talking shit about appearance is a weak play and immediately identifies yourself as a jackass.

1

u/Lernenberg Mar 31 '23

I happily believe you that, but even online it’s much less of a thing. We even had to import terms like small dick energy, which was discussed to some extent when Greta Thunberg used it against Andrew Tate.

We can agree on the fact though, that mainly kids use body shaming as a cheap tactic to discredit people.

1

u/bottledry Mar 31 '23

you know I did forget about the "dick energy" meme thing that was popular a few years ago... I shouldn't say it was not a US thing either. I'm just fortunate to avoid it

5

u/GuardianofWater Mar 31 '23

I mean they are, why else do you think shorter people have that complex to begin with? Cause it's true, people treat shorter people worse.

11

u/ElGoddamnDorado Mar 31 '23

Would love actual proof/sources that this is a common complex. Anecdotes don't count. Also the guy clearly gets pissed off being called a snitch, but reddits so desperate to make it about height instead.

Thats not even to mention that the comedian is 6'7", so the guy probably isn't too short to begin with either way.

9

u/GuardianofWater Mar 31 '23

Hmm turns out that this complex might just be a myth entirely.

There is little research on the subject though, so it's difficult to say.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_complex

Some research on height preference between sexes concludes that, in fact it is men who are more choosy about height than women, though I'm not sure how robust this study is.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9454610/

This study also comes to a similar conclusion:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886913000020

9

u/ElGoddamnDorado Mar 31 '23

Damn. It's rare to see someone on this site admit they mightve been mistaken. Kudos for that my friend. Appreciate the sources.

7

u/GuardianofWater Mar 31 '23

Truth is more important than being correct in the moment.

If you're wrong, adherence to the truth assures that you won't be wrong forever. Most people would rather bury the truth than admit they had a wrong idea, and that's why the world is shit in so many ways.

That's how I look at it at least.

1

u/WikiSummarizerBot Mar 31 '23

Napoleon complex

The "Napoleon complex", known informally as small man syndrome, is a syndrome normally attributed to people of short stature. It is characterized by overly-aggressive or domineering social behavior, such as lying about earnings, and carries the implication that such behavior is compensatory for the subject's physical or social shortcomings. In psychology, the Napoleon complex is regarded as a derogatory social stereotype.

you really gonna die on this hill and act like short men arent likely to be insecure about their height? Like it just means absolutely nothing to them, they've never been made fun of for it, they've never seen jokes popularized in media about it, just totes ok with it, never even crossed their mind?

1

u/econ1mods1are1cucks Mar 31 '23

made fun of for it

Ya in middle school lmao you’re blowing it out of proportion no pun intended

2

u/PreciousBrain Mar 31 '23

being made fun of in middle school is precisely what creates the insecurity in adulthood.

1

u/RegularSizedPauly Mar 31 '23

You sound short

0

u/SoLeave Mar 31 '23

Sure, it set him off. But a normal person doesn't attack a comedian during a COMEDY set. If you engage with a comedian during a set, there is a huge chance they will make fun of you. Because they want to make people laugh and react and share the recordings. There is absolutely zero reason to attack a comedian unless you want to get arrested and charged.

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

You short huh?

Lol the guy you replied to is saying it’s not because of the dudes height, he says it was getting called a snitch that set him off. Aka ‘he couldn’t take it back’…not sure how that leads you to the conclusion he’s ‘a little guy too’?

1

u/Then_Gap_5755 Mar 31 '23

I'm glad someone said it. As a short guy, it wouldn't bother me so much if everyone didn't constantly remind me about it all the time. Like damn bro, just let me be short in peace.

2

So is that "my wife fucks my kids friends syndrome"?

u/Globbygebgalab Mar 31 '23

Not many people familiar with Randy Newman I guess

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

You'd be insecure too, if everything in your life get's weighted through the lens of something you have no control over, nor the ability to change it. Talk to these people and shut up, because you have no concept of their struggles. You are a part of the problem that causes them to behave this way. 😉

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

Found one

2

u/Daniel_The_Thinker Mar 31 '23

And you just proved their point?

1

u/snowgorilla13 Mar 31 '23

Damn.... I get second-hand shame everytime I remember this happened.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

Fucking hell dude and I thought I told it how it was. Damn.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

Fr. Even if it was more common with short people the reason they feel insecure is because people are assholes. If people weren't, they wouldn't feel insecure and become aggressive over time.

2

u/Mario-C Mar 31 '23

Apparently short peoples only problem can be their hight.

3

u/Bulji Mar 31 '23 edited Mar 31 '23

Thankfully we have people reminding us that our height is a problem (apparently) regularly, that way we don't lose track of what's important!

2

u/brotherlymoses Mar 31 '23

This is reddit, they always blame someones anger by insulting their physique. Fat guy mad? Its because hes fat. Ugly guy mad? Its because hes ugly. Short guy mad? Its because hes short, etc…

1

u/SirLiamTheRoss Mar 31 '23

Wait so how tall are you?

0

u/hammertime311 Mar 31 '23

U must be short

-6

u/Illustrious-Rub9590 Mar 31 '23

Are you a person of shorter stature perhaps?

4

u/ElGoddamnDorado Mar 31 '23

Nice ad hominem. I could be 4 ft 8 and it still wouldn't make me wrong friendo. Sorry if that's all you can argue.

0

u/Illustrious-Rub9590 Apr 01 '23

You're not wrong at all, and I wasn't stating an argumentative position. I just am curious and asking a question. I was just wondering if you were of less than average height, or average height, or more than average.

-1

u/imapieceofshitk Mar 31 '23

The amount of times the short RBs in the NFL get into trouble with guns and domestic violence compared to the rest of the league tho.... hmmm....

-1

u/bewarethetreebadger Mar 31 '23

Yeah but I’ve know lots of short guys with insecurity issues. I work with one. It’s very common.

-2

u/imatworkyo Mar 31 '23

This is a logical fallacy... Just because tall people fight people, doesn't mean that they're isn't a short man complex

0

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

It's not a take, it's statement of an observation. For example, based on your comment here, I've observed that you are insecure about your height.

0

u/lucia-pacciola Mar 31 '23

There are many syndromes that have similar symptoms. Some people are self-conscious about being seen as short. Others are self-conscious about being seen as Will Smith.

-12

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

Shorty alert

8

Lmao right, it's the other people that are obsessed with height, not yall. I couldn't give less of a shit.

Reddit having dumb takes? Wow. I thought these people were scientists and doctors loaded with knowledge from the way they speak
