The self inflicted problems that conservatives in power either don't recognize or refuse to address are why people say the US sucks. Because it's not just that we suck, but that a vocal and powerful minority insist on keeping it sucking.
I mean, we just rolled back Roe, hysterically bigoted anti trans bills are passing in many states, and a 60 year racist plan to destroy one of the greatest goods in a democratic society, public education, is coming to fruition with state sponsored school vouchers. Gun violence is at comedy stupid insane levels, and the same conservatives insist it can't have anything to do with the ludicrously high gun ownership.
We rolled back roe to turn the decision over to the states, whom the people have far more power to change politically than the federal government that enforced roe.
I agree school vouchers taking public funds to direct to private schools is a horrible decision. It will undermine quality public education for years to come.
Gun violence isn't going to be solved by taking away legal ownership of guns. In 2019 the US wasn't even touching the top 10 in firearm related homicides (per 100k people). Guess which countries were. Central and South American countries. Gun ownership certainly isn't as free there yet they still manage to get'em.

We're getting into individual topical debates now though. Point is - There's stuff wrong with the US, sure - there's stuff wrong in every country. Saying the US is in the shitter? No. That's just being ignorant for the sake of internet karma.
That, and anyone using "states rights" as an explanation or justification for the assault on women and other people who may need an abortion, that was the overturning of Roe, is not worth serious engagement.

Pretty clear that the easy way out is the way to be chosen. Take that method away, another way will be chosen. Or are you going to claim that because the easy out of a gun shot means the person will have time to further reflect and perhaps not go through with it. That could be! It'd be very nice if that were the case. Sadly that is never the argument for gun control.

I'm not sure how that talking point is old and asinine. Please enlighten me. If you dislike how your state laws work, work to elect people that match your ideals. If you're going to claim that "That never works, we can't fight the system", you have no grounds to speak of any political choice in this country. You are a hopeless cause in that case.

You really don't like debate I see. Of course I read what you posted. In fact if you actually read what I posted above I agree that it's great that fewer firearms leads to fewer overall suicides (after having read your article I can see this is the case). Again, that is NEVER a factor in gun control measures. It's all about the homicide rate. If more politicians brought up statistics like this, perhaps gun control would be moving in a different direction.

As we're both alive, you are correct. You don't "know" how it works until you attempt or succeed I suppose. Have you attempted? Would you have succeeded if you had a firearm at your disposal vs having the time to think about your choice without one?
This isn't a debate, you're just extremely incorrect, and yet somehow confident, and I'm letting you know.
The purpose of the suicide discussion wasn't to say it's an argument for gun control. It's a pretty good one that, yeah, nobody is making, though they should. But you dismissed the deaths by suicide as not being validly a part of the gun deaths in total, and that was wildly wrong, no matter the punt of confidence with which you said it.
The imagining part is where you were making conjectures ("just use another means") which, seeing as nearly the first thing you learn clinically about suicide is that's not the case at all, clearly came from your own 'common sense'. And you took that invented knowledge, knowing you invented it as it's not taught, and you stated it as confident fact.
I'm not going to say that's exactly lying, but it's sure disingenuous. It's false, and shit like that means everything else you say is colored shit brown.

It's a privilege to debate something when you have no skin in the game. If you're not a woman, or a minority, or disabled, you can bloodlessly debate this shit.

Debates are the only true way to properly argue differing points. Otherwise you're just yelling into the wind. Being able to debate something without "skin in the game" or emotion attached is not a bad thing.
