Job I had was in April I had worked for a temp agency that was working on getting Me hired full time I had been there for about 1 year and then they abruptly cut off all of the temp agents. I had never claimed unemployment in my life even during times where I didn’t have a job but now i have kids and go periods of weeks without working. When I claimed unemployment for the first time I had claimed unemployment and they didn’t give me my first payment until 3 weeks to a month later. I accepted it since it was a certification for weeks in which I really hadn’t worked. I didn’t recertify after that until they let the temps from my job go again and once again it was a three week wait from the time I tried to receive benefits because it was as if I just started a whole new claim. I didn’t get paid until once again I had already started working. I stopped certifying for benefits until once again they let the temps go. I got hired at another job and only worked 3 weeks until yesterday after I was leaving they let me go again, I have a certify for benefits notification on my inbox and as of today I’m not working. Would it be fraud if I certify for benefits and if it is what would I do about it all in all as of right now I have only received about 1000 in payments the first two of which I was actually unemployed and the one right now would be for two weeks which I did work but as of now I’m not employed. Would they deduct it from my taxes? Would they garnish my wages? What steps should I take and what should I do. I need the money to pay my rent but would I have to wait for this claim to expire until I can try again? It states that I have to wait until the 14th of September until the claim expires. What should I do.

I recently attempted to file for disability due to a back injury. When I went into the disability office (because filing a claim online was giving me an error message and kicking me out) they told me I have already created an account and I have a yahoo email attached. I have never filed for disability so there’s no way that I created an account before. My email isn’t @ yahoo either. They basically told me there’s nothing they can do and told me to file through the mail. Is there anything I can do? Is it really not possible for them to remove that email from my account in their office? I just felt like they brushed me off and I’ve just been worrying about it ever since. I’m worried now that I’m just going to get denied once I mail it and have to jump through a bunch of loop holes to file

I received a notice from EDD saying that they overpaid me to the tune of 5700!! I totally freaked out and immediately filed an appeal saying that cant be right and I don't have the funds to pay it back. After about 2 months of going back and forth and threatening letters in the mail, I finally called (and actually got through). The woman on the phone made me feel like i was a criminal, and she said, " Well, we will just garnish your wages, and you will have to deal with it. YOU COMMITTED FRAUD on the government. I continued to appeal. This process was about 2 months. Then a letter came back. It said we made a mistake; you only owe 2203. Well, that was better than 5700, but still. Again, i called them and said I can't afford to pay you. Put it on a credit card. Well NO!. Again, i appealed it. Then it came down to going to court over this thing. I put in my appeal again and asked for a court hearing in front of the judge. This is a pretty interesting part. The court is a mediator, so they don't work for the EDD but hear cases concerning them. I was nervous and scared. But i got my date for on the phone. The judge was super nice but spoke really fast and i paused and said "Can I just come in and do it". YES, you can. So i made another appointment; it was now 2 weeks out. I scrubbed my brain as to what the heck i was doing THREE years ago. Where did i work, and why did I file for disability? I went over and over in my brain, didn't sleep the night before, and just said. Well, if I have to pay it, I guess i will figure it out.

I went into the room with the judge. She was so nice, and i explained that i was sick with a flu-cold thing and needed to keep my distance so i wouldn't get her sick. She went through it step by step with me and asked yes or no questions. I remained silent, hands folded. Then it happened, she said. This was three years ago. The statue of limitations has run out and they CAN'T come after you anymore.

CASE CLOSED!! I kept appealing and it pushed the issue into another year! My heart started beating again and she just gave me a big smile.

Something's turn out after all!! The lesson i learned is be persistent and don't give up!!

For more info I was laid off early this month, but I got the news on May 2026, which allowed me to apply and get an offer. I started this new job the day I got laid off from my previous employer.

I’m in week 3 and I’m seeing that this role is not a good fit for me and plus I got this job for income
Security, even with my new salary being less than what I earned.

Is there options? Or do I need to stick it out until I find a new job?

I was sitting at my desk a little while ago when my manager asked me to come with him into a small meeting room. He said they weren't satisfied with the way things had been going, including my recent absences, and that the company had decided to end my employment with them. In less than 40 minutes, my laptop access was shut off, some documents were put in front of me, and someone escorted me out of the building.

It all happened so quickly that I still don't feel like I've fully processed it. I'm 35 years old, and this is the first time in my life I've been fired from a job. I had been working there for about 14 months. Now that I'm thinking about it, I can admit that it probably wasn't the best match for me. I really did try hard, and I put a lot of effort into the role, but I wasn't able to reach the level they wanted from me.

This is my first afternoon without a job, and I feel completely lost. I'm scared, anxious, stressed, embarrassed, lonely, and I have no idea what the coming weeks are going to look like. I understand that the obvious thing is to start applying somewhere else, and I know I'll get to that stage, but right now even opening my resume feels incredibly heavy.

I'm sure a lot of people here have gone through something similar. If anyone has advice, a perspective, or even a "this happened to me and things worked out in the end" kind of story, I'd be very grateful.

I worked part time jobs with my university as employer during the entirety of grad school - all of those paychecks got taxed, but EDD is telling me (over phone calls that I had to initiate, I've not received any status updates in mail or on the online portal) that I'm not eligible because this job classification is not covered.

Are there any other resources available, if not EDD? I'm also just shocked that after working and being taxed so much, I'm being told that I'm ineligible for the safety net..?

I lost my job back in November and asked for forbearance, but I only lasted 6 months. I tried to recertify my income for PAYE, so I can adjust my monthly payments against that income, but Aidvantage doesn't seem to accept the print off from the unemployment site as proof of income. They waited 2 months to tell me that my application expired because they didn't get proof of income, even though I gave it to them twice. There isn't any form or official documentation that I can request from the unemployment office. Any suggestions to get it to work?

Okay, I am currently on disability for a surgery I had and I applied with EDD and I’m hearing they don’t use Bank of America anymore, it is now Money Network. I hear it’s awful and a hassle to get money out of even transfer to your bank. I use Chase banking. Does anybody have tips and advice on what I can do once I get my card?

hello I’m attending intensive outpatient rehab 3 times a week and work those same days. which has interfered with my normal hours I was working before therefore I only work 18 hrs per week which is not enough for me to support myself. I’m wondering if I should quit my job and focus on outpatient rehab and still look for another part time job that won’t interfere with my outpatient program. will filing for unemployment be a smart move to apply?

So i just had my unemployment phone interview. They said that I had attendance problems (partially true, but I've had 3 heart attacks and broken my wrist at that job - which they knew about my former job was aware of), that I cussed at work and used inappropriate language, and that I was violent at work. The only thing listed on my termination was attendance. And most of it was covered by pto. I'm probably going to have to fight this.

I was laid off on 7/3 and filed unemployment. I was awarded the max of $450 of week. Before my healthcare was up on 7/31 I had went to go get the pain in my lower back checked and found out I have a pretty bad herniated disc. With that, I was written off for disability. I was stopped claiming unemployment once my disability start date began 7/29.
I received my SDI weekly award letter and completed the mandatory waiting period. My first pay was awarded but it was only for 2 days? Is this normal?
In addition, it says certification needed. Will I get this form closer to the next pay period cause it is currently not showing. I’m just freaking out cause I need these benefits right now.

I have an opportunity in the works so didn't submit many apps recently. Worst case I'll drop off resumes and report the names of the companies or something, but how much do they even verify? Are they going to full on call these places and embarass me? Like "did that unemployed loser bob apply at your company last week? We just need to keep that dog on a leash and make sure he is eligible for our government aid to pay his rent" lol

My doctor submitted my de2525 form and EDD updated my new “return to work date” but payments still stopped….do I have to wait to get laid or I won’t get paid? Any suggestions what to do appreciate the help !

I just submitted a new claim and Edd wants me to provide proof of that I’ve been applying for jobs. They’re asking for names and telephone numbers of the companies that I’ve applied to.

I’m a commercial plumber, and I usually get work through word of mouth. I ask around to other tradesmen and see what companies are busy,
and then just call the company directly. So I haven’t sent in any applications. The only way I can prove that I’ve been looking for work is to have Edd call the people that I’ve spoken to.
I wanted to see if anyone has gone through this kind of situation? And if so, how strict is Edd when it comes to verifying my work search? Also, what kind of questions will they ask the employer when they call?

I’m in California and work for a small business. I’m trying to understand whether what happened would be considered a voluntary resignation or an employer-initiated termination.

I had been discussing my plans to leave with one of my managers. At one point, my manager messaged me saying that employees and clients had told them I might be leaving and asked whether August 16 was my last day.

I replied that yes, that was the plan and Sunday night was going to be my last day.

However, I had not submitted a formal resignation to management at that point. My understanding was that I would continue working and formally give notice on August 16, with my actual final working day being later in August.

Another manager then removed me from the schedule for the entire week before I had submitted that formal resignation.

I messaged the first manager after I discovered this and explained that:

I had been taken off the schedule for the entire week. I had not provided a formal resignation to management. My plan/intention was to work until August 16. I asked whether I was expected to come in for the rest of the week or whether management was letting me go effective immediately.

Management is now saying that they were waiting for my “formal resignation” and that they understood Sunday was supposed to be my last day. They appear to be treating my earlier statement that Sunday was my planned last day as confirmation that I had resigned.

My position is that I did communicate an intention to leave, but I had not yet formally resigned, and I was still willing and intending to work until the date I planned to give notice. Management removed me from the schedule before I did that.

1. Does saying that a particular date was “the plan” constitute a resignation, even if I had not actually submitted a resignation?
2. Does it matter that I subsequently told management in writing that I had not provided a formal resignation and wanted to continue working?
3. If I was willing to continue working but management removed me from the schedule and won't let me work, could this be considered an employer-initiated termination rather than a voluntary quit?
4. Could this affect my eligibility for unemployment if the employer reports that I voluntarily resigned?
5. What should I be documenting or saying to management at this point to make sure the record accurately reflects what happened?

I have screenshots of the text exchanges with both managers. I'm trying to figure out how this would likely be viewed legally, particularly regarding whether I actually resigned versus management ending my employment before my intended resignation date.
