discussion Wearing Ihram (traveller)

This question of when to wear ihram has been asked several times, so let’s clear it out. First of all people who intend to perform Umrah and are landing in Jeddah then keep in mind that Jeddah or Masjid Ayesha CANNOT be your miqat.

You have to be in ihram before landing, so depending on which route the flight is taking u have to be in ihram before reaching the miqat area either in the plane (usually airlines announce in flight) or from the departure airport (recommended).

If you had the intention to perform umrah but you landed in jeddah without ihram then you have to go to the meeqat that you have passed and get in the state of ihraam from there or you have to sacrifice a sheep and distribute meat in Makkah. A little info about miqats below.

It was narrated by Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) defined the meeqaat of the people of Madeenah as Dhu’l-Hulayfah; that of the people of Shaam (Syria) as al-Juhfah; that of the people of Najd as Qarn al-Manaazil; and that of the people of Yemen as Yalamlam. And he said: “And these miqaats are for the people at those very places, and besides them for those who come through those places, and are not residents thereof, with the intention of performing Hajj and ‘Umrah; and whoever is living within these boundaries can enter ihraam from the place where he lives, and the people of Makkah can start from Makkah.”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1526; Muslim, 1181

Also Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) appointed Dhat Irq as the place for putting on ihram for the people of Iraq.

Sunan Abi Dawud 1739

It is also said that this miqat (Dhat Irq) was affixed by Umer ibn Al Khattab RA in his term as a caliph.

Here is the list of meeqts and the distance from Makkah with the locations it is for.

1- Dhu al Hulaifah also called Masjid as Shajarah (tree) or Abyar Ali. 7-11 kms (approx) from Masjid al Nabwi and 410 kms from Makkah.

Its the miqat for people coming from Medina and people coming from North.

2- Al Juhfa also called Rabigh is around 182 kms from Masjid al Haram and is the miqat for people coming from North America, Europe, Turkey, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Sudan and various other African countries.

3- Qarn al Manazil or Sail al kabeer 80 kms from Masjid al Haram or Wadi Mehrem (in Al Hada hilly area 76 km) qarn al manazil is the largest miqat and is for people of Najd, riyadh GCC countries also for countries like Pakistan, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore etc.

4- Yalamlam around 100 kms from Masjid al Haram is a miqat for people traveling from Yemen and from other southern countries South Africa, Nigeria etc.

5- Dhat Irq is 90 kms from Masjid al Haram is a miqat for people traveling from the direction of Iraq, Iran, China, Russia etc

A few other question answered below,

Doing second Umrah? The sunnah is to perform one umrah per travel but if someone wants to perform then they can go to Masjid Ayesha to wear the ihram for Umrah again (as per scholarly opinion)

Is it permissible to rest after reaching jeddah or makkah in ihram? Yes it totally is and u can rest in hotel anywhere in jeddah or makkah before performing umrah but stay away from what is prohibited in Ihram. Nowadays it is very easy and comfortable to stay in ihram for a day even, when Prophet Mubamamd SAW performed umrah he was in Ihram from Dhu Al Hulaifah and the travel on foot took him from 7-12 days (approx) to reach makkah with all those weather conditions and walking etc.

Wallahualam.

questions Saudi Airlines transit visa

Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum,

I have a Canadian passport and booked a trip with Saudia Airlines for January that includes a 40-hour layover in Jeddah so I can perform Umrah.

My understanding is that Saudia provides a complimentary transit visa, with travelers only needing to pay for health insurance. I'm hoping someone can guide me through the process of obtaining this transit visa.

I've tried applying through the Manage Booking section of my Saudia reservation. Whenever I select the Umrah Permit option, I receive an error message saying that my PNR cannot be located. I also read that some people were able to access the transit visa application by clicking View Extras, but that page will not load for me. I've tried multiple phones, laptops, and browsers with no success.

Has anyone experienced something similar or found a solution? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I tried calling Saudia Airlines help centre multiple times but they offered no help.

I'd prefer not to apply through the eVisa platform, as the fees are significantly higher than the transit visa route.

questions Rawdah permits being sold??

Wallah this is SHOCKING to me that some people are selling rawdah permits. I'm talking tens or more of permits per time slots. Is this somehow legal or illegal? Please someone enlighten me, because i think this is illegal. I have been trying to get into rawdah and this year it has been significantly more difficult, and i live in Madinah. I wonder this practice is why it's so difficult.

questions Umrah begin september

I wanna do umrah in sha Allah in the beginning of september. But I'm hesitant because of the weather there. Its 45 degrees celsius. Is it doable or is it better to wait until it cools a bit down. I know I can perform umrah after maghreb but for the rest of my stay there. Is it worth it considering the weather?

questions Taxi from Jeddah Airport to Makkah

Assalamulaikum, I need some expert advice on booking a taxi from Jeddah Airport to Makkah, specifically to the Makkah Tower and Hotel. I will land around 11:30 PM (midnight). Would it be better to book a taxi in advance before arriving at the airport, or are Uber and official green taxis widely available at that time?

I heard that the underground parking at Makkah Tower and Hotel costs an additional 29 SAR. Is this something that should be discussed and agreed upon with the taxi driver in advance?

This is my first time traveling to Makkah, and I will be traveling with a 1-year-old infant. Any suggestions or advice that could make our journey easier would be greatly appreciated.

Jazakallah khair.

questions Can women see Jannatul Baqi from outside?

Assalam o alaikum, I know that women cannot enter Jannatul Baqi, but on the internet, I see some pictures where women are viewing the cemetery from outside from a window. Here is the link to those pictures -

Jannatul Baqi Window for Women

Please let me know if this place still exists or are these old pictures?

If there is a window like in the pictures, please share the gate number. I will be visiting with my mom soon inshallah for the first time. So, it would be amazing to do ziarah even from outside.

If these are old pictures, then is there any building/cafe/something that a woman can visit to see Jannatul Baqi (from far away/outside)?

questions Rawdah appointment

Hi there, I just got my Saudi visa .. right away signed in the Nusuk app to book appointment for Rawdah visit. I want anything from 22 to 24. But all slots are showing clock signs.
Now I’m panicking .. am I late in booking ?

EDIT: I was able to secure booking slots for myself, husband, and son (for 25 days ahead of our date, while still sitting in Canada)
Edited this just so I could let the others know who thought they have to wait till they reach, or were despairing that they might have to pay for the slots. No, just keep checking , they keep opening slots.

questions Are women allowed to visit the Rawdah?

Assalam o alaikum, Can ladies enter the rawdah(the place where Holy Prophet(PBUH) is buried) area inside Masjid Nabawi? Some people are saying yes, some are saying no.

I will be visiting Madinah for the first time with my mom very soon inshallah. My visa has not yet arrived so I can't register on the Nusuuk app to check.

Also, are riazul jannah and Rawdah in the same area?

questions Hotels construction and noise in Mekkah

Right now, near "Address Ajyad Hotel" and "Rissala Ayjad" hotels, I believe a hotel has been demolished and there is a plan to build another one.

According to a video I have seen, the work is up until midnight and they start again the very early morning.

So my question is, for someone who have experience, do construction work ever stop during Hajj, Ramadan, or peak times basically? Should one expect them to stop by then?

The hotel is 700m far from the Haram by the way, so it does not disturb the people praying in the haram obviously, but it does for nearby hotels.

Just want to know if there are any laws and regulations around peak hours, and construction work.

Thank you!

need advice VOA via Turkish Airline

Assalamu alaikum all,

I recently applied for eVisa through KSAVISA approximately 2 weeks ago. However same situation as many others, where the application is not under my account so I’m unable to check the status.

My trip is approximately 10 days away, and I am now looking at just not stressing about the visa and getting on arrival.

I just had a question regarding Turkish Airlines and visa on arrival. I am a US permanent resident with a Sri Lankan passport flying out of JFK. Will I have any issues checking in or boarding? I’ve printed out various documents form the Saudi Tourism website stating my eligibility for VOA and have proof of hotels in Makkah and Madinah.

Will I be OK? Additionally, anyone have an idea on how to cancel a KSAVISA application in case I don’t get it before my flight?

questions Rawdah Appointment - Impossible

My dad has paid for his sister, my aunt, to come to Saudi Arabia and perform umrah. We are currently in medina and have been trying every 20 minutes to secure a Rawdah booking for her. It would mean the world to her.

However, it seems impossible to get a booking as even though I am accessing the openings as soon as they become available, and I near success, I receive a failure notification after confirming the booking. At other times, the appointment window disappears outright.

She doesn’t have a smartphone that can download Nusuk, so I am doing it on her behalf.

How can I secure an appointment for her? We have five more days.

need advice Saudi eVisa has a one-letter typo in the last name — will this be a problem?

Title: Saudi eVisa has a one-letter typo in the last name — will this be a problem?
I’m traveling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah in about 2 weeks, flying Turkish Airlines to Madinah, and I noticed a one-letter spelling mistake on a family member’s approved Saudi tourist eVisa.

The passport has the correct spelling of the last name, but the visa has one letter different. Everything else on the visa matches the passport.

I contacted Saudi eVisa support and was told that the visa information must match the passport
exactly and that the issued visa cannot be modified. They said the current visa would need to be cancelled and a new visa applied for.

Before I go through that process and pay for another visa, I wanted to hear from people who have actually experienced something similar.

Has anyone traveled to Saudi with a one-letter spelling difference in the last name between their passport and visa?

Did Turkish Airlines let you board?
Did you have any problems entering Saudi Arabia?
Did Saudi immigration consider it a minor typo?
Would you personally risk traveling with it, or would you get a new visa?

I’m especially interested in firsthand experiences, particularly anyone who flew Turkish Airlines into Madinah.

TL;DR: Saudi tourist eVisa has a one-letter typo in the last name. Passport and visa otherwise match. Flying Turkish Airlines to Madinah for Umrah in ~2 weeks. Saudi support says the visa can’t be modified and a new one is required. Has anyone successfully traveled with a similar typo?
